Omg you guys. I'm posting this while successfully tandem nursing my twins!!
I really wish I had closed the curtains first tho.
Yessss! Get it girl!
Nipple shields FTW!! They'll still need formula bottles tho. At our lactation consult this morning Evie nursed for a half hour and only gained 1 oz. Harper nursed 20 minutes and only gained 0.1oz.
I just added to my question list for my MW next week if I should expect medical students and/or residents present while I labor and/or deliver. It's a teaching hospital, so highly likely. I don't think I'll mind having one or two extra people in the room, but I would like to have the right mindset going in.
My mom loves to tell me my birth story in that she was pushing and looked up and saw 20 people all around her (who knows if that's the real number) and it was all students. She didn't care in that moment, haha!
I'm sure every hospital is different but I figured I'd share my experience:
There is an on call OB from my practice (and another one from the other OB practice with rights at that hospital). They also introduced me to the on call resident, who had a medical student with her, in case the on call OB was delivering another baby when it was time for me to deliver. And I mean actually deliver, not just the pushing. A good amount of pushing was done with just MH and a nurse in the room.
I do remember being asked if it was ok for the medical student to accompany the resident into my room.

That's totally ok!! Hopefully they get better at transferring milk as they get older, this is a great start!! You are a rockstar, mama!
I'm probably the weirdo of the group (who am I kidding, we all know this...) but I cared about who was there for delivery. I wanted my OB and got lucky he was there. I didn't trust the other two OBs so if I couldn't have him, I wanted the MW
If I didn't trust the other MWs in my group, I would probably feel like you. So far I have no weird feelings with any of them. I still need to meet two more.
In an extreme anecdote, one of the other resident's wives is due a few weeks after me and has already stated she is thinking of asking her OB to induce her because the OB is in-house only two days a week and she wants them there. Not because of trust issues, she's just being particular. She said this in a group setting and all the other women told her inductions can take days so he still might miss it.
They can take days.. my OB was hoping the induction would kickstart labor since I was already dilating with no contractions. They worked on 24-hour on-call rotations and he was set to work the following day as well so he was pretty certain I'd deliver within that time

I also care. I want my OB or the midwife. To be fair, I haven't met the others yet, but I've heard rumors of them being c-section-happy. I know the OB and midwife will respect my wishes as far as a natural birth, and I can't be sure of that with the others.
hpnegirl & LadyNymeria - Yes, protocol is supposed to be to ask if the med student can be there. But with my H as a resident, I know protocol is not always followed. (It really irks me because as a patient I want the rules followed.) So I figure I'll at least ask their protocols.
Oh, and for anyone curious, in teaching hospitals, residents tend to do the majority of the work. So don't be surprised or offended if you find that to be the case. In most cases, you want the resident. They're doing this stuff day-in and day-out.
I've always allowed students in my appointments when asked. It doesn't bug me. I just am a control freak so it helps if I have my expectations set appropriately.

I was once asked if a student could administer my yearly pap and pelvic exam...I said sure thinking I was nice. I did not know that it meant that the student was going to do it and then the resident or attending or whomever was going to do it after - double exams! Ugh!

Yeah, that is a pain. Once I said it was fine for the student to do my history and the resident came in and asked the exact same questions and the attending did the same. Three times is a bit much. Talk to each other! Or if you don't trust the student, have the resident there at the same time.
I just spent 5 minutes wandering around the big parking lot at work searching for my car, before remembering I drove H's car to work today. No wonder I couldn't find my car.
I did this on Sunday morning! I felt like an idiot...especially bc I could see his car in plain sight from where I was wandering looking for mine!

I need to create a chore schedule. I've been having such a hard time keeping up with the house and it's only going to get worse.
I've tried this and gave up. H and I both weren't following it. But I think once the baby is on the outside, we'll need it to keep up. Share if you find a good one!
I woke up earlish enough to do 15 minutes of yoga and even almost made it to work on time, heh. Then I walked to the hardware sore and back at lunch. I'm feeling so accomplished today.
To all those who chimed in yesterday: I did the yoga poses you recommended last night and no crazy RLP this morning! I doubt it was that immediate of a change, but I'll take it. Now I just have to remember to stretch every night.

Yeah, we definitely need one. We have a bad habit of pushing things aside and then it piles up and we can't catch up. I may make my own depending on what I find. I definitely don't need vacuuming or laundry on the list since I vacuum every other day and am constantly doing laundry. I plan on working on this during Ds's nap...which is hopefully soon.
Hi everybody! I'm just over here trying not to throw up. It looks like my nausea is not going to magically disappear at the end of first tri like I was hoping!
