I'm packing my hospital bag if it's the last thing I do today and it got me thinking about the funny things I did in anticipation of DD1 that ended up being a giant waste of time. I thought it might be an entertaining thread if anyone else has similar stories.
I made 50 "postpartum padsicles" with some concoction I found online. Super absorbency pads frozen with witch hazel, aloe and I think a dot of lavender oil for...freshness? Lesson learned: there are enough secretions and things coming out of one's vagina after a birth. Purposefully adding excess stuff was not helpful.

My stuff isn't as funny! But I do wish I hadn't washed all of the clothes I got at my shower since so many of them didn't get washed!
And LOL to thinking we'd be using the nursery for anything more than storage. We still barely use it! I remember when I thought it was so important to have my cribs all set up and ready.
requiressnacks, story of my life with the nursery set-up! It's only within the last few weeks that the crib started being used for actual sleep...5.5 months later. Bouncers-->rock n plays-->bassinets, with the crib being used for storage the whole time.
OMG all the things that I just HAD to have new. And two of. TBH, I was too paranoid about late term miscarriage to do much nesting. Then again we gutted half the house and brought kids home to construction, so I guess my nesting was just... different?
I didn't know there was such a thriving consignment scene here and bought everything new, minus a few things I bought from neighbors. (A conversation I've had with H and my mom) I doubt that my kids are going to know what a ToysRUs is until they're school-aged, at least. Between my sister (whose kid definitely knows what a ToysRUs is and demands to go) and the multiples sale, I'm not going to need to buy new toys.

How about things I didn't do because I was a naive dreamer.
I didn't pack a hospital bag because "I had plenty of time left".
I didn't have many newborn clothes because "they won't wear them long". My girls are still in preemie clothes.
I didn't have any bottles other than a few free ones because I had huge pipe dreams of tandem nursing. Lol yeah that didn't happen. DH had to go get bottles day 1.
We don't use our nursery much. I make it a point to have the babies nap in there once a day but other than that we live in our bedroom and the living room.
I didn't buy a frame stroller because I was going to wear them or put them in the regular stroller. lol bought one on Facebook for $20 the other day.
Oh you probably will. My problem is I bought a used city mini. The car seats don't click into it. I thought no problem I could just lay the seats flat and buckle the babies in. But my babies are WAY too tiny for the straps and lol at buckling floppy newborns into a stroller in the parking lot of target. We've used it for neighborhood walks but it won't work as I had envisioned for running errands. LOVE the frame stroller because I can just click the car seats in and go. No hassle.
ETA: I'm sure this stroller will be awesome when they're older. Just not real practical for newborns.
...because I had huge pipe dreams of tandem nursing.
This. So much. My boobs are huge even when I'm not pregnant/nursing. Football hold or not, my little babies were no match for these heavy, milk-engorged breasts. Football hold or not, there was no way tandem was going to happen for us.
My babies have crappy latches and I'm only producing enough milk for one. Plus they have to be bugged every few minutes to keep them from falling asleep. I need 5 arms and unlimited patience to tandem nurse and single nursing means I'm literally feeding around the clock. I've mostly quit nursing at this point. I don't mind pumping so I pump every feed and then we alternate breastmilk and formula bottles. Team do what works when it comes to feeding.

We are pretty much on the exact same program, mustloveerica . I only produce about half the needed milk, my boys are sleepy eaters, and nursing both followed by pumping and bottle feeding was leaving me with about 20 min to sleep before it was time to start the next 3-hr feeding cycle. We, too, make up the difference with formula -- and also some mothers milk from a local free donor program in my city.
I rarely nurse at all now. Once a week maybe, if I happen to be holding just one hungry baby and feel too lazy to go prepare and warm a bottle. Using bottles also allows MH and my mom to help with feedings. They appreciate the opportunity to bond with the boys that way, and I am glad to have their help.
It works for us.
Same! I really only nurse if someone is cranky in between their scheduled feeding times. Plus I love that anyone can feed a bottle. DH still does middle of the night feeds with me because it's easier to get two babies bottle fed and back to sleep in 20-30 minutes. Our hospital was super anti bottle/formula. I hated feeling ashamed about how I was feeding my kids. But what we've decided to do is not only working (babies are almost back to birth weight!) but it's also keeping ME sane and happy.
I don't know much about that one. But you are definitely going to want something you can snap your car seats into. I have a double snap & go for errands, doctors office, etc. I use my baby jogger city mini for walks around the neighborhood. I'm sure the city mini will get a lot more use when we aren't in the infant carseats anymore.
But yeah....Snap & Go frame stroller is basically the best.
We haven't used anything but our City Select and are very happy with it. It's our only real choice with 3 under 2 though. We did a mix of babies in the seats reclined with Summer Infant Snuzzlers toddler on the roller board and toddler in seat baby in other seat 2nd baby worn in carrier. We didn't even buy the car seat adapters and I don't regret it.
Edit to add: that even when we go to Target - one baby worn in carrier, 2nd baby stays in car seat in the big part of the cart, toddler goes in the seat on the cart. Then I put a basket on the bottom for my stuff.

mc13, your post made me think....it might also highly depend on the temperature too. Mine were in their infant seats with blankets, hats, etc. it would have been such a PITA to take all that off and transfer them. When I did use my jogger (kind of like yours, we used the infant snuzzlers ), I put them in these snow suit type things. Also equally annoying. Haha.

Different strokes!
That's true! We're in the Northeast but my girls were born at the end of August so we had about 2 months of nice-ish weather before winter hit - even then, winter has been pretty mild. So yes, it's all trial and error and different things work for everyone.

+2 to the snuzzlers in the stroller! I much prefer the convenience of transferring bucket seats to a frame stroller for errands. But the snuzzlers work awesome for taking the regular stroller on walks.

Amen, sister. I appreciate all the passionate, helpful nursing advocates out there -- that is, until they start politicizing and using guilt to promote their own views based on their own limited experience with nursing. For mothers with other kinds of nursing challenges, that kind of pressure can be really upsetting at best and, at worse, downright dangerous. If you're on FB, you might enjoy following "F.ed is B.est Foundation." I just found it this week and it's so helpful to know that others share my experience and perspective.
This is so helpful! My hospital is Baby-Friendly, and all of their nurses have been trained as LCs. My OB even warned me that she thinks they're a bit pushy. I've had the talk with my husband about being my advocate as I know post-delivery I'll be a bit out of it. So we're packing formula and bottles just in case.
mc13, I love the stroller pics! DVMmomma, we're also getting a City Select, but a new model is coming out soon (I think May) so we did got a frame stroller to get us by in the early weeks.
DVMmomma, you'll want a stroller that can accommodate two car seats, at least for the first 3-9m? If your city select can accommodate both car seats, my only concern would be the overall weight? If not, find a twin group, double car seat frames are always available used. I bought mine for $20 and I'm essentially donating it back to the club now.

It's advertised at being able to handle both car seats. And we got the glider board for DD1. So it's definitely going to be a tank. DH and I joke that we feel like we need a license to drive it. SaveSave
Thanks guys! We bought the attachments so we can click the car seats into the stroller. Hopefully that works!
This is what we have for our City Select and we've loved it!! Didn't even use the regular seats until recently because the infant seats clicked in with such ease. I think you'll really like it!
DVMmomma , here's a pic that might be helpful. They were about 7 months here I think in their bucket seats clicked into the adapters on our City Select. No issues with weight. So much love. (PDQ pic)
