I feel like L just had a big leap in her language curious if you guys have had one too. What do you do to promote world learning/understanding etc. tell me about your babbling babe.
Ls been pretty good with mom and dad, hi and bye for a while. She also locked on to dogdog a little while ago. It's like her daily chant. She has been trying out some b words too, like she got out a pretty clear belly butt for her favorite body part. Anyway what really blows my ftm mind is what she is starting to understand. Like I asked her where her pony was the other day and she went and dragged over her favorite rocking horse. Anyway we don't do a lot to "teach" her words other than repeat them for things of great interest. I have started narrating to her what we are doing more.

Yeah, it's nuts how much they can understand. I'm pretty sure dd2 understands most of what I'm saying to her and dd1. If I ask her if she is ready for breakfast she'll head out to her highchair and wait for me to put her in. If I ask where something is she'll put her arms up in a "where is it?" pose, grab my hand, take me over and point to it. She's also great at nodding yes or shaking her head no, which makes things so much easier.
She's not great at saying actual words yet. She can say "mama," but rarely does. She can say "kick," for some random reason. She says "Hi" CONSTANTLY and has since she was about 9 months old. It's her thing. She says "GAHHK" for any animal, which makes no sense, but I always know what she's talking about when she says it.

NellieOleson, my little one calls all food "app puh."
I've seen a big leap lately too. He is good with dada, mama, buhbye, apple (app puh), and light (his favorite thing). He also sometimes says hi, dog, and bub (for bubbles). He doesn't nod or shake his head yet (at least not for yes and no, he shakes his head all the time for fun or dancing), and I can't wait until he does. I feel like that will make things so much easier.
He definitely understands more than he says. The nanny tells me that he'll bring her certain toys if she asks for them. When he hears the garage door he starts waving and if he's downstairs he'll walk towards the door to wait for dad. His comprehension is almost as good as our dog's.

DD's favorite word is also "hiiiiiiiiiii!" She says it a lot! She also says "buh bye" when people are leaving and her little backwards wave. She does "ba" for ball, mama, dada, and "that" is also a favorite. She will say other words like Da for dog, her own version of DS's name, etc. but nothing super consistent.
I'm working on her signs more consistently and hoping it will curb some of the tantrums we've been having once she starts connecting that she can communicate. DS was signing really well by now and we didn't really have a ton of tantrums with him. She could also just me more of a spitfire than he ever was.
E's pretty verbal. I swear every day she says a new word. Latest have been car, truck (appropriate use!), up, down, done. She tells the dog "sit" which sounds astoundingly like shit and "good dog" which sounds like good god ("shit!" [pat, pat, pat] "good god!"). She follows commands pretty well, knows her body parts, and knows animals (where is the cow?). She also bosses me around. "Mama, nana!" (nursing). "Mama, book!" She of course also does a ton of the point and shriek. Toddlers!
M isn't great with many words. She can say mama, but won't very often, she points to things and asks "azat" which we assume means what's that, so we tell her what things are. She sometimes say "anah" which I think is Jonah, and occasionally my BFF's baby's name. Hi is her favorite and she says that almost constantly when she's in the mood. I think she's just not interested in talking yet. She understands a lot though. If she has something she's not supposed to and I tell her to give it to me, she does. If I ask if she needs a diaper change, she'll go over and wait by the diapers, if she can reach she'll hand one to me. She does what she's told most of the time, she always understands it, but sometimes chooses to ignore you.
NellieOleson - DD calls every animal a "duck" so maybe lumping all animals into a single category is a Jan. '16 thing
Like most of the LOs already mentioned, DD doesn't have a lot of words aside from mama, dada and duck, but she does a LOT of babbling. So it will be interesting to see how that translates in a few months ...

He doesn't have a lot of words. He will say "mamamamama", but he often does it when I'm holding him and he's looking elsewhere so I'm not sure even that it means mama (me). He says dadada, but the same thing happens there too.
He says bubba when he's holding his bottle so I think that's what that means. He points at a lot of things and we tell him what we think he's pointing too. A lot of things just sound like "buh".
He makes a lot of sounds, but I have no idea what they mean. I still swear he says "got it" after we wipe his nose. It sounds a lot like "got it" which is what we've always said to him as we wipe his nose which is all.the.time.
