Does anyone have any tips on how to prepare/consume flax seed? I spoke with a nurse about all of the pain I'm experiencing due to endometriosis and my sciatic and flax seed was high on her list of recommendations.
Feel free to toss any recipe links here if you have them

I've put it in smoothies too! Or those energy bites (peanut butter, oats, flax etc). or in muffins.
One thing to look into is I have heard if it's not absorbed very easily if it's not ground. So if you have actual seeds I would smash them up in a mortar/pestle a bit first.

Can I purchase them already ground? I haven't made it to the store yet to see what my options are
Sometimes I throw chopped flax into overnight oats. I didn't know they were supposed to be helpful for endometriosis. Maybe I should eating more of them too.

Bob's Red Mill brand has flaxseed meal (usually in the specialty/healthy flours section of the store) or you can buy whole flax seeds in the bulk bin at places like Whole Foods, but then you will need to ground them. (But it can be coarse— a blender or food processor can work.) The whole seeds toasted and coarsely ground are a great crunchy element on homemade bread or focaccia, or mix them into a quinoa or rice pilaf.
I use the flax meal pretty much how others have mentioned— in smoothies, stirred into oatmeal, etc. Flax meal can be used as an egg substitute when baking, too, so that's an easy way to use it as well.
