I'm home with a sick baby today, which kills my plans to tour a preschool this morning. On a positive note, I'm wearing yoga pants and no makeup on a Wednesday.

Well, our fence guy is supposed to come out and be putting in our fence today so I hope when I get home later, there is a beautiful new fence in my yard.

iwantbacon Sorry about the sick kiddo. Also hoping sleep went easier for you last night. ksyknelvr73, yay new fence! That's one on our would-like-to-do-eventually list.
Teleworking from home today, I'm like a walking plague carrier. So many emails to catch up on. I didn't ask my boss permission so here is to hoping she doesn't mind the fact that I'm trying to not infect all my co-workers.
How is introducing solids going? We've done butternut squash, parsnips, and carrots, and DS basically hates the latter two. He *loved* the squash. And ate it so well! The two root plants he keeps making sour faces and pushing it out of his mouth. Not sure if it's cause of the taste or the texture. We're doing each for three days at a time like the pedi recommended, but DH is worried that DS is gonna hate eating forever, lol.

iwantbacon, I hope you were able to get some sleep last night, and hope the LO feels better soon. ksyknelvr73, yay for a new fence! How are you feeling? macaronmama, hope you feel better soon. We haven't started solids yet, but N used to do the same thing when we tried new foods. I promise you DS won't hate eating forever.
I picked the boys up last night and attempted to go to Moe's, but the line was to the door. I knew G was going to need to eat soon, so we hit the McDonald's drive thru instead. Not the best for either of us, but N got a Hot Wheels car with his Happy Meal, so that made him happy. I was able to nurse G on the cracked nipple side last night, and I am convinced that helped him sleep better last night. He fell asleep around 9 and slept until 7:15. N slept until 5:45 and snuggled with me until I got out of bed.
MH is taking N to get a haircut today. Tonight, he has a special union meeting, and he is taking the boys with him so I don't have to leave work early. I need to go to Target to get Pullups for N and put gas in my car. I may get dinner while I'm out, depending on whether MH is going to make anything before he goes.

macaronmama the solids are going okay. She LIKES the food we've tried so far (sweet potatoes, carrots, and green beans) but she has a hard time with how runny it is so she pushes a lot out. Daycare actually tried some cereal with her yesterday and said she did very well with it, because it was thicker.
smallpotato I feel much better. I have some drainage in my throat that is lingering but otherwise back to normal, thank goodness.
iwantbacon Sorry for your sick baby. Hopefully it doesn't last long. ksyknelvr73 Glad you are finally feeling better. macaronmama We only tried sweet potatoes so far with Lil P. She gagged pretty bad. Then Mr. P tried them and said they tasted disgusting. I'm actually worried about the way she reacted because when the home nurse was coming she said something about Lil P being lazy when it comes to sucking and stuff. smallpotato Enjoy your kid free night. I'd go out to eat or get take out and go have a picnic somewhere.
Last night wasn't bad after the 10pm wake up that took forever. I was so panicked that he would be up all night, but he mostly slept in between coughing spells. His fever is down a bit this morning, and he is clear to return to daycare tomorrow as long as it stays that way. He's in good spirits this morning which is also helping my mood.
No food for baby yet, but I hope to outline a "meal plan" this weekend so I can prep and freeze some purees. Hoping he will accept purees at daycare and some BLW at home.
I've been working on decluttering. I have this sheet for decluttering 2017 items in 2017. I'm at 400ish so far. I finally chose a better name for my blog and starting posting more on it. We're going to the playground in a bit. I just want to finish sorting Big P's play area in the living room first.

penguin129, I wish it was warm enough for a picnic. At least it's sunny and will be about 50 degrees today. Friday, the meteorologists are predicting a nor'easter of some kind. Gotta love New England weather.
I just talked to MH about it again, and I am going to go home so he can go to the meeting alone. I'm not happy about it, but I'll deal with it. He deserves some kid-free time too. I think I'm more upset about not being able to go to Target LOL. He did offer to go for me though, which was nice.

The 4 year old attitude is killing me. Yesterday was bad, and she woke up in the same mood. I stuck her in front of Moana with her breakfast to give me some time to wake up. DS is still congested and slept like shit, he's been cranky pants lately as well.
We have a playdate at the park this morning. Preschool this afternoon. My mom mentioned taking DD tonight for a sleepover. Won't say no to that.
My run group starts tonight. I'm getting out of the house for 2 hours and a workout. Can't wait!
I'm supposed to be cleaning everything out my son's room because we are replacing the flooring but now I'm scared because I found a big spider in the hallway. I'm afraid there are more. I HATE wolf spiders. They just sit there and stare at your which is creepy and intimidating. 😩

My plan is to do BLW at home until he's got the hang of it and then let him eat finger foods at school. I am just afraid that he'll prefer the purees if we offer them. We did the same thing with DD. It worked great except it took her until 15 months to eat yogurt because she wasn't used to the texture and she couldn't fed it to herself. I'm not saying your plan won't work. It'd be great if he could eat at daycare and lessen your burden at home. But we did purees with DS1 and the transition to finger food was difficult so we were trying to avoid that with DD.
iwantbacon - I'm glad your little guy is feeling a bit better and ended up sleeping okay last night. It's the worst when they are sick like that. As parents, we feel so helpless and I know I often wish I had an instruction manual to help get through those tough times!
danizee - Um, hell-to-the-no on the wolf spiders. I would be scared, too! Keep a bottle of Raid nearby!
I had no idea what BLW was, so I looked it up. Interesting, but just not for me. We had no issues at all starting with purees with my girls. They were eating 100% table food by the time they were 10-11 months old.
I don't think that job I applied for is going to call me for an interview. It's been 2 weeks since I applied, and I called and left a message on Friday, for good measure. Oh well; if it's not meant to be, then it's not meant to be. I have a feeling they wouldn't be able to pay me enough, anyway. DH told me the other day that by around this time next year, we should be in a place, financially, that will allow me to quit working altogether. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think we'll be starting solids within the week, once we get the sweet potatoes and butternut squash cooked up for him. I think we started giving N chunks around 10 or 11 months.
MH just told me that N was great at the barber shop, and that he rocked G to sleep while MH got his hair cut. They are going to Target and Moe's since they are both being good.
macaronmama squash is the only thing O has liked so far too. She gagged and almost threw up with peas, and apples made her pucker.
Just at work today. I feel almost hungover from my major anxiety yesterday, but mentally am doing so much better.
DH has a man cold and just told me he's taking the afternoon off. Hopefully he'll sleep and feel better so I don't have to hear him moan and groan later.
I want to try blw so bad but I am such a freak if they make gagging or choking noises. I am so nervous.
Didn't you guys have gag reflex issues with the bottle trouble too? O did and she twice has gagged and thrown up just trying tiny pieces of food or even purees she doesn't like.
They got this 'ability' to throw up easily from DH. When he was super anxious he was throwing up all day, and anything really smelly makes him puke. DD1 throws up at the smell of her own bowel movements sometimes (even in the big potty) and gags when she sees the baby's poop. I didn't even know this was a trait that could be inherited, but I think it is.
Somebody on another board couldn't even read about vomit. I apologize in advance if anybody here is like that.

Oh man. If he gags on everything, I am going to be so sad. He's gotten less gaggy on the bottles but I just tried to give him a 6 months paci instead of the newborn size he was using and he gagged, lol. It's like if anything goes in his mouth that he's not used to, he's very sensitive to it... he even gags himself with his own fingers or teething toys.

fem DH is like that as well and it irritates me to no end. MIL told me that he was a really gaggy baby too and he threw up all the time. DS2 had lots of gagging issues when he first tried to eat table food but he got over them, so as of right now, I don't have kids with these issues.
We've done purees. Fruits and veggies. We get pears and prunes in every day because dd1 had constipation issues and now holds her poops. The green veggies have not gone over well. But it takes time. I made all dd1s food, but I've made much less for dd2, which I know is understandable, but it makes me sad. We had dd1s check up this am and dd2s ears rechecked. All checked out normal. I'm gonna stop striving for STTN for another month or so. I'm gonna try to sleep in the guest room every now and then and DH give a bottle MOTN to recharge myself. I'm going to visit a friend tonight who just had a baby. I made her a couple of meals. It was so helpful when my mom did it for me. I'm so excited to be going alone haha. I won't even stay very long. But it's a decent drive and I can't wait to just drive and listen to music. Lol.
Low key day today- stroller strides, play group, and my sister came over. I finally decided on a day care for DS1 (he'll be 2.5 in September), so that was a relief.
I gave DS2 avocado chunks yesterday. He was ok with it, didn't love it as much as DS1. I did BLW with DS1, with some purees thrown in. But I think it's totally just coincidence that some BLW babies don't become picky toddler eaters.... I just think all kids are different. At 10 months DS1 was eating salmon and broccoli and loving every bite. He was that way until like 18 months and now at 2, I can barely get him to take a bite of either. Toddlers can just be punks.
My mom gave me table food only and I am the pickiest of picky eaters. We did purees with DS1 and moved on to thicker foods quickly- he was the same as yours, ate everything until 18 months. I was wanting to do blw just to avoid purees because I don't like having to make or buy something extra when I can give table food.

I gotcha. I just have seen many people (in general, not here) tout BLW as the reason for creating "good eaters" and people express interest in it for that reason, but I was just offering another perspective.
This is a good perspective. I wanted to do BLW with #1 but the gagging set off lots of ICU nurse panic alarms and I couldn't do it. #1 are most purses as a baby and was relatively open to new things until she hit toddlerhood and then wanted to live off of cheese. I have been planning to do BLW this time around in the hopes of creating a less picky kid but it may not even work.
Whatever the perspective on blw- purees are simply for letting the child experience flavors and teaching them to move the food to the back of the mouth and swallow without choking. I see many people using purees way too long. Just the other day, a family friend was still feeding the 18 month old tiny bites of food (not letting him pick it up himself or bite off a piece) and giving purees because he only has a few teeth. Gums are just as hard as teeth for one... And I've seen long uses with purees leading to kids never getting past the purees. It also, imo, doesn't allow them to develop the fine motor skills needed at that age. It's crazy because I'm thinking who is your pedi and why haven't they discussed this with you. By 18 months my kid was using a spoon to eat cereal with milk out of a bowl and stabbing his food with a fork to pick up and eat it or chew off bites of a whole piece. It's hard to understand because I saw purees as a bridge to get across as quickly as possible but it seems some folks get stuck there for months and months. Idk. This was probably a rant.

Yeah this totally makes sense. My pedi is pretty anti pouch for this reason- occasional on the go use is fine, but he says he sees too many kids now going to elementary school, not eating any veg except in pouch form.
And then there's my three year old who can't eat applesauce from a pouch or yogurt from a tube because we never offered those things in that form. Let me rephrase that. He is not proficient at it.
I can't get over the waste created by pouches. But they sure are convenient grab and go meals and snacks for the littles one.
If having three very different kids has taught me anything it's that my parenting has very little to do with how they turn out.
WRT food? Blw ftw because purees are a pita, but the idea that it will ward off picky eating? I mean... If it was that easy there would be no market for books about it.
And yes, finger feeding is so important for fine motor stuff. That said, having had a kid with severe feeding and fine motor issues, the fact that that kid goes along with it becole sends up all of my red flags.
The parents do a lot of odd things with him so I think they just don't know any better. The mom is home with him and it's their first so I think they just blame "teeth" but really haven't tried to let him. The kid wants food. He took a piece of cut up pizza off my kids plate and ate it. I didn't know they weren't letting him eat anything so I didn't think anything of it until his dad came in freaking out asking what he was chewing on. I told him and he began scooping it out of the kids mouth even though the kid was handing chewing it fine and wasn't gagging or choking. The dad was like "he doesn't have teeth, he can't eat that." And then he was pulling just the cheese off his pizza and giving that to him in small pieces (fathers hand to 18 month olds mouth). The kid actually seems pretty capable. He's also huge- like 30+ lbs and the mom wAs like "I was so surprised when the pedi said he was over 100%". She also mentioned he was still getting a motn bottle in their bed and that they don't know how to stop that. He also goes to bed at like midnight and gets up at noon. I suggested they start waking him at 8am to move the bedtime back where they would like it but they seem to be the parenting types that just don't know how to make changes at all. so there's a whole lot of wtf going on over there (edit- not the co sleeping or bottle feeding or bedtime- but the general fact that they just seem to fall into things that they don't understand how to get out of.)
