I don't necessarily call it a collection, and I don't display it but I have a ton of nail polish. Like way more than 100 bottles. Too bad I hardly ever paint my nails anymore.
I consider myself a minimalist and don't collect anything on purpose. That doesn't stop relatives from starting collections for me, I have a teacup collection that is in a box at my sister's house.
I have a seasonal/holiday salt and pepper shaker collection. I try and find tasteful ones (or at least as tasteful as holiday s+p shakers can be!)
Other than my mom and aunt, no one knows about this, though, bc I don't want everyone and their brother giving me ugly sets I'd feel obligated to use 😬

I feel like somebody else told a similar story once before, but about pigs. Little ceramic pigs.
Speaking of pigs, my aunt had an accidental collection of pigs. She had one or two little things, someone noticed, and next thing you know it had taken on a life of its own and she was getting pig stuff left and right. She had a gorgeous waterfront home--super tasteful and beautifully decorated--but was constantly having to find places for pig tchotchkes.
ladystrat you reminded me that I also collect blown-glass Christmas ornaments from places we've traveled and lived. I have a mermaid (city symbol) and cardinal (state bird) from VA, a ruby red slipper and sunflower from KS...now I need to figure out FL.
MH gets a mug from everywhere he's ever been, which is fairly common but we (used to) travel a lot, and he travels for business all the time. So we have one full cabinet in our kitchen with mugs plus a display shelf for the "favorite" ones. Now S has to pick out what mug everyone uses for their coffee. Usually he chooses Disney or Hershey park, but the other day he picked the mug of the Sistine Chapel. He's very worldly
I don't think I have any collections. I used to collect magnets from everywhere I went and put them on my fridge back in my 20s. But that got old fast. And now with our stainless steel fridge there's no where to keep them anyway.
MH thinks I collect Sippy cups. I have a weird thing where I am obsessed with buying different kinds of sippy cups for S. Like he probably has about 25 and no more than 2 or 3 of the same kind. B just started using them and MH is freaking out that they are going to take over the house. Every time I go shopping he begs me not to come home with more of them. And it's hard not to.

When I was younger I used to collect Snow White memorabilia. But kinda like Peach mentioned, ppl notice and then they buy you every useless, cheap knick knack under the sun! I've thrown away all the junk, gave some of the toys to B, but most of it is still boxed up in the storage area of our house. When I graduated HS, my grandmother gave me a Lennox set of SW, the prince, and the queen. Most of it has never come out of their boxes.
I remembered that my bff brings me back something whenever she travels. I have 5 Disney magnets, sea world magnet and various shot glasses. I bought a couple magnets when we went on our cruise and to Mexico also. They stick on the side of my fridge.

tgrimes1980, my Mom use to have a ton of those. They may still be in a box at her house or broken after so many moves, who knows. She had some that were days of the week. Like Monday you wash clothes so the figure was at a wash basin, Tuesday you bake bread, or some shit.
Oh I do have a lot of penguins! I loved them in middle school and high school, even had a penguin decal on my first car. But then everyone started buying them for me. My grandma on my moms side would buy me 10 little dinky dollar store penguins during the holidays. I have so many I can't put them all out anymore lol.
Oh I almost forgot about my penguin collection, courtesy of my mother and sister.
When I was little I collected Boyd bears. So. Many. Damn. Bears.
Me too! *poof*
I also collected the 8" Madame Alexander dolls. They're so beautiful but I now have b/n 15-20 of them, all in original boxes, and I don't want to be the creepy doll lady and display them, so I'm stuck moving them around America in a tote. When I was convinced C was a boy, I was all ready to sell those and my American Girl on eBay, but then I found out we were having a girl and convinced myself she might eventually want her mother's creepy doll collection. 🙄 (Sorry, Caroline, just feign interest someday and then you can Goodwill them).
LizInFL , I have my American Girl collection in my basement! I thought about selling at 1 point.
People will pay $$ for them, esp. the original ones that are no longer made. I'm just too sentimental about it now that i have a daughter. Tempting, though!
Yes, they're designed to be played with. I didn't really, b/c I was so afraid of messing her up. I had all her furniture and clothes and would basically just dress her, plop her down in her desk or chair or whatever, and then leave her be. The OCD was strong in child-Liz.

I may have a beanie baby collection under my bed at my mom's house. It was a random thing my mom and I had fun with when I was in middle school. I'm glad we stored them in bins since they are pristine condition for my kids to play with.

I totally forgot I have a every holiday Barbie for every year from 1988 to sometime in the late 90s. In their boxes, completely untouched, courtesy of my godmother. They are in the attic. No idea what to do with them.
Me too, plus MANY others (around the world Barbies, random career barbies). My mom collected them and they're supposed to be mine now. I assume they're in my dads attic. I really should look into seeing if I can get any money for them. I don't have any desire to display them in my home. I could put the $$ to b's college fund so I won't feel so bad.
I missed the whole American doll thing by a while, but I'm excited to see if it's something Josie wants to play with. They are play – with – me dolls, right?
I definitely played with mine! They have a doll hosital so you can always send them in if their hair gets nasty or something else happens to them.
I was too old for American girl but I pretty much owned everything Barbie ever came out with in the 80's. I wish my mom would have kept the two big Winnebago's. Those were awesome.
