Not a huge help (I suck at design) but something to consider. We bought fabric chairs for our dining room, and lets just say they are not pretty anymore. Toddlers have a way of spilling/wiping and generally destroying fabric when there is food/drink around.
Girl, scotch guard that!!! I am a toddler in human form when it comes to food messes 😂😂
waitwhat I'm all googly eyed over your kitchen. It's gorgeous! Is it open to other rooms? If so what color is that furniture?
yes it opens to a morning room and the living room which is a cream colored carpet and the couches are different color. One is a beige-y and the other is a charcoal gray. As you can tell, I love white and gray 😊
+1
So much so that I had a bit of a panic attack when I started bringing the bright kids' stuff out during my pregnancy.
I'd personally add some color since there's a lot of neutral going on. I'm still hesitant to use color but am slowly adding in pops here and there and chairs was my first gateway to embracing how fun it can be.
Found these on wayfair:
If you want color
If you still want neutral but don't mind a pattern, plus the legs are darker like your floors.
I'm going to need some help with a dining room light fixture/chandelier but this will be easier when I'm home and can take some pictures. Hang tight until 5pm people!
jubilantsquirrel I'm going to ask H about the blue. It's going to take a miracle for him to get on board with them. Also, those fabric ones from kohls I love because they also come in a blue! I saw them a few weeks ago when I was looking online!
Ah, the Khols link was supposed to be for the blue ones! They're really pretty! I hope you can get your H board!

Super late, but I agree with the color option. Your kitchen is gorgeous! If your H won't get on board with doing one of the fabric chair options some other ladies suggested, what about doing a wood chair with colored seat cushions?
I love the idea of blue. You could pull some of the blue elsewhere into your kitchen in the form of dish towels or rug/mat at the sink, artwork, etc. I also don't think your countertops are too busy for a patterned chair; I would just keep it a larger scale pattern vs. a tiny little print.
I have upholstered kitchen chairs and miraculously they still look brand new, thanks to Scotch Guard. It helps that the fabric is textured with a subtle pattern so it hides a multitude of sins, but they've had everything from coffee to spaghetti spilled on them and it all cleans off with soapy water. Scotch Guard is amazing.
Ok, so my house is no where near as nice, but here's my dilemma. We moved into our house almost 3 years ago and have been slowly updating things along the way and as most projects go, we've put a few things on the back burner until we just can't stand living with them any longer then we update or fix it. Well we moved in and got super lucky to inherit this guy:
That's right, swans are currently hanging out on our dining room light fixture! We need to get rid of these guys. Even the other week DS pointed to the light and said duck. Even my 1.5 year old is making fun of me!
My issues are that, our dining room table is centered with our built in China cabinet, not the room. The light is centered with the room. The living room has a fan in it and the fan is also centered in he middle of the room.
What type of light fixture would you suggest? Is it weird that it won't be centered with the room? H thinks it needs to be centered with the room and not the table and I pretty much agree.
It can't be too contemporary, since nothing in our house is contemporary. We're not into glitzy things. It needs to shed a decent amount of light since it's the only light in that room, but the windows are south facing and add a lot of natural light to that room. The fan in the living room has brushed bronze - do we stick with that?
jubilantsquirrel I really like that drum like one, but I know H wouldn't. Which makes me think traditional is the route we will go. Out of the two you posted, I like the second one better, but I think it will need to be smaller. Our dining room is on the small side.
tjanca22 Your home looks so charming! I love all the details--arched openings, built-ins. So pretty.
Ok, so re: where the light is hanging, a questions:
What is going on behind your dining table (in the space that you can't see in the pics?)
If the answer is 'nothing', I think I might center the dining table in the room so that you can have the light directly over the table. I don't think it matters that the china hutch would be off-center of the table/light at that point. Normally I'm all for symmetry but b/c it's built-in, and it looks like your table is kinda squeezed along the window wall, I think it makes more sense to center the table on the room, not the hutch. I think it would make your dining room feel more spacious, too.
We're about to eat, I'll come back with some fixture options. LOL at the swans...we had some, ahem, interesting fixtures in this house but nothing quite that unique!

I'm terrible at decorating so I might be asking for help with my bedroom soon. I get too hung up on being matchy but I actually love unique pieces of furniture, fun fabrics, etc. I just don't know how to pull it off myself.

tjanca22 I also think it would look nice to center the table in the room if you can. Then it would be centered with the arch and the light. Here's a few I found.

Legit lol at the swans tjanca22!!! When we moved into our house the old homeowner went on and on and on about the dining room chandelier. H and I were horrified with it. So...we replaced it a few weeks within moving in and put it on the porch for the electrician to take with him when he was doing the eleventy other things he had to do. Wouldn't you know the damn old homeowner stopped by (creepy, did it for awhile) and saw his prized light fixture sitting forlornly on the front porch. I could have DIED.
