Does anyone have advice for me? S1 is suddenly afraid of bugs which is causing major meltdowns when we go to the park. It seems worse when we are alone. Almost like if enough people are there then he forgets. Today it was so bad he was hyperventilating. The bugs aren't even really out yet. It's going to be a long spring/summer if this keeps happening
Aww. Do you or your H ever say ew or make a big deal about bugs? I really disliked when parents would freak out about rats, snakes, crickets, etc. at Petsmart. Maybe you could find a cute book about bugs? There is a shirt at target and it says "go play outside" and the letters are made of bugs. Maybe some plastic play ones, too?
He used to love bugs. And one of his favorite books is his big book. 😔
I don't really nor H. I can get bad sometimes with bees but not as bad as I used to be for the very reason you mentioned
@runningmommy would you be able to show him there's nothing to worry about? Hold the ladybug in your hand and let it crawl around so he can see it's no big deal?
Full disclosure: not a chance in hell I could do this with certain things, so I totally get if it's a hard no for you. I just found that my kids find things less scary if they see me do it first.
Yep, fuck earth worms. I won't let N know how I feel about them but HARD no to me touching them.
@runningmommy518 can you do a "magic spray"? When DS is afraid of crap sometimes j will give him a magical spray down (of water) or a magic item to keep them away (only friendly ones allowed) haha. It doesn't really take away from a knee jerk reaction though.
I'm emotionally drained from that thread too. And headache. Brutal Monday!
Another friend of mine suggested this. Worth a try.

Awww. Is he in to science? Maybe learning how they have a purpose? Even if it is to be food. Butttt that may be scary to know. Kids are hard What about the movie A Bug's Life?
ETA: I haven't seen that movie since it was in theaters AGES ago so I have no idea if there are any possible scary or trigger type scenes.

runningmommy519 - have you asked him exactly what it is about bugs that scares him now? Sometimes just talking through it will help him realize there is nothing to be afraid of
I've been leaving the awful fluorescent lights off in my office for months. It feels really antisocial so I turned them on today. Now I have a headache. Back to being antisocial tomorrow!

+1. Or anything similar: caterpillars, slugs, etc. Fuck no. I'm creeping myself out just thinking about it.

There's 3 of us in 1 room and we leave the fluorescent lights off as well. We use softer ones and a light on our desks.
I feel like I only slept 2 hours even though I got about 8.5. Yaawwwnn. MH is so happy about Carolina winning, he'll be on the high all week. This week is library week but we are only celebrating today. Crafting washcloth bunnies, therapy dogs, poetry magnetic boards, candy, and prizes. Should be a fun day if I can wake up and get out of bed.
I got told at the gas station I look like I'm going on a date. I mean, I feel good about myself today but that was a confidence booster for sure. That or I look like I'm doing the walk of shame lol
Yawn, yawn, yawn. M was up half the night, I feel like I've hardly slept at all. I have to work late tonight, so I'm being lazy and slow this morning. I will shower and get ready once my mom gets here.

August 16, 2015 baby Boy M is born and our hearts melt!
We're getting ready to head home. M had a bad coughing fit at 2:30, if I had doubted the inhaler was helping (I didn't) tyre change after using it last night would have convinced me.
I had a terrible dream that I wasn't able to feed my family, I think it was due to that thread on parenting. I was so distressed and was woken up from it to M coughing. Not the best sleep.
But we had fun. We were out the entire day until getting home to feed M dinner. He did nap for a bit even though he had the steroid. He also had some massive tantrums. Luckily the biggest ones were during the dinner show when it was loud. I kind of felt like I achieved a new mom level for holding him so he couldn't knock anything off the table or hit me while I still managed to eat 😂
