I am overwhelmed. My full time job is crazy right now. My guard unit is crazy right now. My DH and I won't be in town at the same time on the weekends for the next 2.5 months. I am not excited about this.
mustardseed2007, CoverGirl82, I won't be headed to the car. Their offices are walking distance from my office. We're meeting at a coffee shop that has another coffee shop in between (so our office, coffee shop, coffee shop, their office), so it's unlikely I'd run into anyone from my office there.
My boss just came in to tell me about how the transition plan (him retiring, me moving up to his position) is being revised. They set it up in a really shitty way before, and the way we're doing it now is to basically switch roles, which is what I suggested from the get go. Here's hoping I prove myself in the next few months!
Made it home at lunch time and was way more comfortable in the recliner with my laptop vs. at my desk. Now I'm torn on heading in to the office for the morning again tomorrow, or just not bothering and WFH for the whole day. I absolutely have to go in on Wednesday for a big meeting, so I feel like I should take advantage of one more WFH day while I can. But in typical me fashion, I feel guilty.
erinshelley21, Yup, that's what I decided. Working from home for the day. My boss even said the meeting tomorrow can be pushed out to next week if needed, no big deal. I just hate being laid up! I had a vaginal twin birth, and now I"m laid up 5 years later like I had a c-section! UGH.
twinmomma, speaking as someone who had a c-section. If you don't rest enough it will set you back even longer. Trust me I learned the hard way. Good luck! and I hope you feel better soon.
DD handed me the snack list when I picked her up Friday and it entered a vortex. I forgot about it completely. Just got a text from the teacher. Got a text from DH (who will have to deal with the fallout): FUCK!

I am winning today.
Seriously, how do you keep track of all this stuff? DD starts K this fall and I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.
My vent: I leave tomorrow for a girls trip out of town. I'm gone until Sunday which should be great since I'm going with girlfriends I only see once a year, if that. The problem is I haven't been able to pack because we were gone most of the weekend and I felt like crap Sunday and last night (third pregnancy is kicking my butt). DH is going out with the guys tonight and I'm just annoyed because it's the night before I leave and I need to pack. Going to be hard when I need to take care of our two and four year old solo tonight while trying not to barf. I've resolved myself to packing after they go to bed but now I'm going to be up late and I need to leave at 5am. Ugh!

My MIL is a very nice person and we get along well for the most part, but she has this weird habit of discussing what I consider to be very adult topics with DS, who is 4.5. For example, she has discussed death extensively, drunk driving, drug overdose, and on the less extreme end, global warming and it's devastating effects on certain species. We've told her repeatedly to not discuss such heavy topics. Yesterday, DS randomly commented that grandma told him she'd teach him how to make his favourite mango pudding before she dies, and that it's very sad that there's an overpopulation of street dogs because bad people aren't responsible enough to neutere their dogs, so when the mommy dog gives birth to lots of puppies, they just get thrown out, and many of these puppies get eaten by bigger animals or starve to death. WTF?!

Im glad we are moving.
DD pushes through softball answers until she gets satisfying answers, which means we do sometimes have to tell her these things (which I hate because she already has anxiety but chicken and egg I guess and I don't outright lie). But you know your son and it sounds like he isn't like that and she is just pushing her own beliefs on him before he is ready. Ugh!
Can I add that we are in the questioning phase on K for DS. School starts 9/5 and he turns 5 9/3. Cutoff is December 15th so he can't go to UPK since he is K eligible. His private nursery school teachers think he'll be labeled as ADHD in school based on his personality if we send him this year. DCP thinks hes good to go to K and decided that she's not watching him next year. The school district we live in has no before/after school care either so it looks like I have to make a major shift at my job in order to get DS on the bus and off the bus.

This drives me nuts. (Not aimed at you.) ADHD is not part of a personality, and it *shouldn't* matter when he starts school; he either has ADHD or he doesn't. The parent/teacher scales are leveled by age down to the *month*, so it *should* take care of the age bias. But it doesn't work that way particularly in a school setting and that is a shame IMO.
The age bias cuts the other way / DD is a September birthday so one of the oldest. Higher expectations and higher test scores expected. Apparently that can extend all the way to scholarships and college admissions. As I didn't elect to hold her back, the cutoff here is 9-1, it really makes me mad. I would have happily sent her at 4 turning 5 rather than 5 turning 6.
saraml13, totally not a good fit but a worthwhile meeting all the same. Although I've ruined my record - I've never gone for an informational coffee meeting and not walked away with a job offer.
It's for a big bank, whereas I work for a community bank. I have no sales goals, I have no requirements to bring in new business, and I have very little structure - the exact opposite of a big bank. All things that are both rare and heaven to my soul, especially with two kids, since I have limited time/desire to spend 2-3 nights a week networking.
The guy knew that it wasn't enough to sell me. We ended it with him saying he thought I'd be a great fit when I was ready to make a move and to keep his number handy.
Now to schedule lunch with the former co-worker who referred me..

Think about other factors like race and size. DD is lucky because she is a tiny little white kid, albeit a girl, so people naturally assume she is younger than she is. On Monday night we ended up out to dinner with another family from school that we really like. The youngest is a grade (but probably not a year) younger than DD and has dark brown skin and currently has green hair. (Charlotte is a trend setter; when her hair went green, so did several other kids'). He is a solid foot taller than her and weighs literally almost twice what she weighs. He's chubby but also strong, built like a bull of a child. He does NOT look like a 7 year old. But he is even less able to manage his emotions than C, and has similar traumas etc.
I'm in DC for meetings. Yesterday as a pre-meeting, I went to one of our outside firms to talk about what we need to accomplish today. On my way from the airport to their office, I got an email that the hiring partner wanted to meet me. Y'all. I was NOT dressed for meeting new people, especially in a quasi-interview situation. I had just gotten off a plane. Pony tail, pants, a blouse. No jacket. Minimal makeup.
I think the guy liked me. We talked for about half an hour, and ended it with "let's keep the conversation going." He asked about salary requirements. Halfway through he asked if he could take some notes. So I think for him it went from "let's humor my slightly eccentric environmental team" to "I might want her".

But PONYTAIL.
Good for him to see past your non-interview (but probably still professional) outfit to what your skills and strengths are!
