Breastfeeding Current Kids

I am still breastfeeding my 2.5 year old, and I think at least a couple of others are nursing their big kids, so I just wanted to put this out there.


I am hoping to let DS self-wean, and I am not anti-tandem nursing, but DS has turned me into a total hippie in that aspect. Who knows, I might dry up. But so far, we have been good to go. He nurses 3x per day. Bedtime, wee morning hours to keep him asleep in bed, and once in the afternoon at "quiet time", although that one has been getting missed when we have been busy lately.


DS is super in-love with BF. It has been a hug part of our relationship since he was a very high needs baby and it has continued to be something that is important to him and that helps our relationship. Sometimes it can be frustrating/tiring, but I wouldn't change our nursing for the world.

I'm also still nursing, but I am trying to wean. I loved nursing (way more than I thought I would) but the last month or two I've consistently been very over it. I always promised myself that at this stage, it would need to be a mutual relationship, and so we've been cutting back. We eliminated morning without issue and nap without too much trouble, but my daughter is very attached to the nighttime session.

My daughter is also a very big fan of BF. I've been talking to her a lot over the last few weeks about how stopping nursing is not because of anything she did, that I love her, that she can always have as many snuggles as she likes, etc. I'm hoping we can wean without too much trauma to either of us. Right now bed time is hard bc she's used to nursing to sleep, and it's being replaced by me reciting Sandra Boynton's Hippos Go Berserk from memory until she falls asleep.

I'm planning on continuing to try to wean in a gentle way unless I get some different feedback from my RE after my prolactin blood work comes in.

Sorry you are having trouble with weaning @officedronette.
One of the reasons I decided on self-weaning was because it has been work to get DS to cut back to 3x a day. He used to be that kid who would be on the boob all day just because.

So good luck to you! You could maybe check amazon for childrens books on weaning. I ordered a night weaning one for my son called Nursies When the Sun Shines, which I have gotten mixed results from using.

We weaned at 14 months to do IUI. We had an easy time weaning. It took about a week of redirection and establishing a new routine. We had very little tears and I was pretty happy to be done.

I'm BFing my daughter still, she will be 2 in July. I have loved it, but lately I want my boobs back. Mainly because it is starting to hurt. I'm open to tandem nursing although my husband thinks it's crazy.

I'm still BF my 20 month old DS a few times a day. I never expected to get this far since we had so many issues in the beginning. Now I'm not sure what I want to do. It would be nice to have my boobs back for a little while before the baby comes. I am touched way too much. Lol

Before our loss in Nov/Dec I figured he'd be weaned by the time our July baby got here. I'm not sure how I want to handle it or how to handle it now.
