Am I still going to get something out of it even if I miserably fail at the nutrition?
Yes! You don't have to be perfectly compliant every single day. No one expects perfection. It is more about seeing how you feel when you are eating less of the non compliant foods and being more mindful of what you are eating. WLC is more about the healthy lifestyle as a whole. You start where you are currently in your life so there is no pressure to be 100% compliant at the beginning. It is something to strive for over the 8 week period. It is just about making small changes every day You are going to do great!
Can we join parenting but have a check in here too? Can I do this? Am I adult enough? How many points are cheese and wine?
Absolutely! That is a great idea to have everyone join the Parenting Team and check in here. That way no one will miss out on the support/advice from the Parenting players that have all done several challenges. For the Kick Start you can have one glass of wine and not lose any points. You start with 5 points and 1 point is deducted for each serving of non-compliant food.
There will be days of zero nutrition points earned and that is OK! You can do this! I felt better than I have in a really long time after my first challenge and I did not get 5 points everyday. It helped me focus on myself as a whole and I really needed that.
I also do kickstarter because of wine. I really sucked at nutrition the last round, but the reminder to focus on the whole was still really good. Perfection is NOT expected!
A pleasant surprise for me - because pre-challenge, exercise was non-existent since pre-Annabelle- was how impactful even 10 minutes can be if you do it regularly.

I couldn't agree more! Before the challenge I wouldn't even bother exercising if I didn't have at least 30 min to do it...so I basically never exercised and would get so frustrated. My expectations were totally unrealistic with life with 2 kids. Now I am able to get some exercise in nearly every day, even if it is a short walk at work or walking my dog at night. 10 min really adds up and it is nice to feel like I'm doing something even when I can't fit in a run or workout.

I think I would be on top of it for nutrition if it were not for the cheese component. I will be interested to see how that part plays out. I really need to explore the other areas before the challenge starts.
I think sleep will be my biggest struggle. Dh does not get home most nights until after 8 and I like to spend time with him in the evening. Most nights I do not go to sleep until midnight and wake the kids around 7.

So you set your own goal for sleep. It should be a small improvement only. If you regularly get 5 hours and wish you got 5.5- or even 5 hours 15 minutes- make that your goal. It's all about YOU- who cares what anyone else is striving to meet?
AB was still waking 3-4 times a night when I started my first challenge. I made my goal 6 hours cumulative because that was quite an improvement, actually. That sounds so pitiful, but it was truly a GOAL for me back then. I had to take a nap occasionally to hit my goal, but I did it more often than not. I really can't imagine being able to do the rest of the challenge on less than 6 hours of sleep regularly. So maybe I have that goal to thank for being able to do the rest!
Really try not to make this a stressful part of the challenge. Start small!
When the Challenge starts there will be a new lifestyle practice to work on each week.
They are putting up new practices in between challenges. The one for next week was posted on Instagram today so I thought I would share in case anyone wanted to do it with me.
"Whole Life Challenge: This week, we’ll take on the things that we’ve been “meaning to do”, developing a habit of action in the face of procrastination.
Simple Instructions 1. Each day this week, you’ll do one thing that you’ve been “meaning to do” for a long time. 2. It doesn’t matter how big or how small the task happens to be — you’ll get it done one step at a time, starting now. 3. Pick a big task to tackle throughout the week or a different small task each day."
Share as much or as little (whatever you feel comfortable sharing) about how the practice went for you in this thread at the end of the week
What's the name of the parenting group? I went searching today and don't know what I'm looking for. Does j15 have one I should look for?
TB will be creating the Parenting group in the next few weeks. We are all going to join the Parenting group and then check in here so there won't be a separate J15 group to keep track of.
I did my meaning to do just now! I stripped the couch cover and am giving it a huge soak in the tub, washing it, and then out in the sun to dry! Such a beautiful day for it.
Milk is kickstart compliant. Coconut milk is also lifestyle compliant IF it doesn't have added stuff. Califia Farms makes some compliant almond and coconut milks.
Milk has decided it is not my friend so I've been drinking my coffee black.
Ok talk to me about sauces - I can't find helpful info on the WLC site.
Can I have ketchup? Bbq sauce? Mustard? Etc?
I can't find anything definitive on the website either. I think some sauces/condiments would be compliant on Kick Start, depending on the kind of artificial ingredients they contain. @thisbitch What are your thoughts on sauces/condiments for Kick Start and/or Lifestyle?
I can't put my finger on it, but I thought I read somewhere that most of all condiments were approved on Kickstart. My friend who introduced me to the challenge played so that she didn't eat any condiments with non-compliant ingredients.
This is one of those things that I think is open to personal interpretation. Personally, I use prepared sauces and seasonings that have non-compliant ingredients. I try to use the best ones I can find, as a lifestyle choice and not a WLC thing. My focus is one eating good food- most of my meals are just protein (meat) and vegetables. I think the prepared sauces and seasonings makes the challenge more accessible to me and other players. Most of us are very busy moms who are trying to fit in self-care in the limited window of time that we have, and I want to support that and not make it harder for people.
Making sauces from scratch just doesn't work for me at this stage of life. I choose ones with the best ingredients I can, but I don't deduct points for them. Tessamae is a company that makes ONLY Whole30 (so much more restrictive than even Lifestyle) condiments. I try to buy their salad dressings, but definitely use regular ole' mayo & mustard. In the grand scheme of things, I doubt that tablespoon of mustard is what will stall progress.
Is it really difficult to do the challenge without paying the fee? I have looked at the website overall and am really interested in the challenge, but can't justify the cost right now.
I don't think it would be difficult at all! You would just need to have a set place to record your daily scores and reflections (recording of how the day went, or whatever you are thinking or feeling). Those are an important part of the challenge. There are no winners or losers with total scores but it helps keeps you accountable from week to week. The only things you wouldn't have access to would be the weekly Lifestyle practices and the team reflections. I can PM or email you the info that we get each week for the weekly practices. We are all planning to keep this thread going too so that would be a great place for you to check in and record your scores each week. There is also a thread on Parenting for support and advice for everyone, not just people that officially join. There were some players who did that last time. I think you would still get a lot out of it!
Hi ladies! I just set up the team, so if you've already registered to play and want to come hang out, i'd love to have you. I named the team Parenting because I'm not creative and that's where I hang out, but I want to reiterate that the team and the challenge are open to anyone- not just parenting regs. I'll make a good bread (Freudian slip, I meant thread) over there and hope to see you guys there.
PS people can vouch for me, but despite my SN I am actually not bitchy at all, so please don't let that put you off. Hope to see you guys soon.

How did this practice go for everyone? Were you able to get some things done that you have been putting off forever?
I liked the Lifestyle practice last week. I normally make a million To Do lists. Over the last week instead of adding more tasks to my lists, I took action right away. Most were really small things but things that have been on my mind for a long time. I organized a bunch of stuff around the house and really made progress in DS1's bedroom. I finally organized all of his toys and books! It feels really good to have actually accomplished something.
