While both girls are asleep I thought I'd get this written! I'm foggy on times but it was short overall.
I was due Friday, 3/31, and had an induction scheduled for the following Friday "just in case". Fri night/Saturday morning I had fewer BHs and contractions than ever and was convinced I was heading for 41w. Saturday night I was unusually exhausted (& grumpy for facing another possible induction & being deprived of experiencing laboring at home, etc) and passed out around 830PM. DD1 was also awful Saturday and H couldn't fall asleep until after midnight; I now think everyone sensed something was coming.
Sunday morning around 1:30AM I was woken up by a contraction but wasn't sure if it happened IRL or a dream. I went pee, got back into bed, shut my eyes, and had another contraction. I laid there through 2 more contractions, when I realized they were coming 5 mins apart. I spent another half hour walking around, brushing my teeth, etc trying to decide if I need to wake H or not. When I realized I had about 45 mins of contractions coming about 5 mins apart, I woke H by saying, "don't panic, but I think I'm in labor. What do you need to do to get ready to go?" Well, he took "don't panic" to heart, and I had to say in the middle of my next contraction, "ok, panic a little and go get ready. They're already getting closer together". The Dr on call is super laid back (& I told him contractions were 3-5 mins apart for an hour) and said "you'll probably be in active labor by the end of the day..but you can come get checked whenever you feel like it". I called my parents to come watch DD1 around 3am, they arrived by 330, when contractions were 2-3 mins apart so we left for the hospital immediately.
When we got to the hospital and they checked me I was at 5cm, so I asked for an epidural, which I got somewhere around 430-5am. By 730am I was 8cm and the nurse had me do some practice pushes before calling the Dr. There was some concern over DD2's heart rate dropping when I was on my left side, which turned out to be her cord pretty tightly wrapped around her neck. When the Dr arrived, I pushed for 9 mins, most of which was spent waiting for contractions and pausing so she could assess the cord issue. She ended up cutting the cord before DD2 was fully out b/c she couldn't get it to loosen. DD2 was crying before her shoulders were even out, but once out she took another 30-45 seconds to start crying again and a bit longer to pink up (I think the super short pushing didn't give much time to push fluid out of her lungs). She was born at 8:22AM, weighing 8lbs 5oz and 20" long. We were discharged at my request after 24 hours and are adjusting to life as a family of 4! I had a 1st degree tear (compared to 2nd degree w/ 1 hour of pushing with dd1) and recovery is going very smoothly so far.
TL;DR Labor was less than 7 hours start to finish, pushed 9 mins through 3 contractions. Cord wrapped around baby's neck but all is well.
