I'm excited for our big neighborhood-wide garage sale next month! It is huuuge and there are a TON of families here with young children. I'll be looking for a swing, bouncer, and double stroller.

I am always amazed at the passion level of garage sale (yard sales here in the south) goers. It never fails when I have one and say it starts at 8 that someone shows up at 7:15 when I'm setting up. And then there's the people who offer you 75c for something that you marked $1.
Edit: They are fun though, a great way to get rid of some stuff and make a little money.

YES! I plan our summer weekend walks around garage sales, though sometimea rolling up with kid and dog in tow is a PITA. My neighbourhood is full of families, people tend to leave a ton of stuff out on the curb as well (which drives me bonkers in principle, but I scored a doll stroller for DD that way). Definitely got my eye out for a double stroller this year!

I like sleep too much to get up on a Saturday for a yard sale. But we do have two big semi annual consignment sales that I always attend. I also stay on our local Facebook swap and shop pages where people post yard sale type things for sale.
For the first year of her life, DD lived in hand me downs from SIL and my other niece who both had girls. Give me all the hand me downs and used (aka cheap) items please!
2nd vote for the big consignment sales. Here there are two big churches that do them twice a year, and the selection is HUGE. I've picked up an exersaucer for $10, bikes for $20, Halloween costumes super cheap, clothes with the tags still on, coats, you name it.
Also, I live in the kids consignment stores. I just got DD1s spring clothes - 12+ tops and 8 Bermuda shorts and jean shorts for $40. They also carry baby gear and strollers.

note to self : don't go yard saling at boots house or bring her with me.
I'm the cheap skate in our relationship, I know it. LOL
I miss going. My aunt and I used to go when I was a kid. It was fun. I have been a few times since, but it just isn't the same.
I have lots of things I need. And once we find out girl/boy, that list will either multiply by a lot, or just remain a need for basics.
DS was a winter baby, but he was in preemie clothes for a long time. So I have winter baby clothes, but if this one is a chunker, I need a new wardrobe too
I want to love garage sales, but they give me anxiety. I have trust issues- is the item in good condition/safe? Is it clean? I'll take second hand stuff from a friend no problem. It's stranger's stuff that scares me. I do enjoy estate sales.
For the most part, if I can't get it on the internet, preferably in 2 days with no delivery fees, I don't want anything to do with it.

I love the concept of garage sales and I get all excited when I know the neighborhood garage sale is approaching. I always want to put some stuff out for sale and go shopping, too. BUT IT NEVER HAPPENS.
For baby stuff, we really only need a swing since we borrowed one last time. We're having another boy so I should be good to go with clothes. A summer baby and a fall baby should be somewhat close in size, I shouldn't need a full new wardrobe at least. I love to shop end of season clearance and have found I can get brand new things super cheap. So far I've been ok guessing future sizes, so we'll see how that goes as he gets older.

I guess I found my unpopular opinion/FFFC.
Same to all of this. I'm constantly trying to get rid off junk we have so I can't handle pursuing someone else's. I'll take stuff from friends and family though for sure if it's something I need.
I love garage sales, but they're just not the same without friends. I don't have a ton of friends down here (they all keep moving away!!) so I now have no one to hit the sales with. Guess I'll just take my H - who will complain all day.

Consignment FTW for kids stuff! You guys should check out JBF ( Just Between Friends ) resales if you have them in your area. blackmamba, I am with you on some things like um.... potty, bath stuff unless it's from friends or my sister, so nope on personal hygiene stuff. I don't have the patience to go through other people's treasures so I don't do garage sales. I will however go to consignment stores. I used to live in CT and the consigment stores there have really great finds. I once scored a D&G skirt for $20! However resales really are great for toys, clothes and books. You can totally wash them so nothing to be scared off. So what if the toy is a little beaten up but DS was beyond ecstatic to get Guido from cars even though the forklift was broken...whihc he will point out daily but he still plays with it and DGAF. DS Swing & PnP were all from resales and in great condition and better yet, the price. I also saw a barely used Maclaren stroller the last time I was at a JBF...too bad we had already gotten one.

blackmamba I feel the same way but I do like to get outdoor toys and books from yard sales. For some reason they don't creep me out. I just can't buy clothes and things kids might have peed, pooped, or puked in. Weird, and somewhat irrational, I know. I do love looking for me though-furniture, art, and decor.

Yea I'm excited. We always have a ton in our town. There's nothing in particular that I'm looking to get because we've been getting RID of so much shit but I do like to go look for outdoor stuff and just browse.
We also have an entire part of our shed filled with tools and whatnot that we need to sell so I think we're going to get a space at this flea market in town to try to unload.
Another vote for consignment sales! We just had a huge one here but I didn't find anything I really liked this time around. I'm always excited to go and look though!
