Little remedies sells a pack that has both plus Tylenol I think. I picked that up. With ds I tried gas drops and when I felt like those weren't working I got gripe water. I don't know what makes them different, but I feel like there's something.
When Clara was this little she has a lot of gas issues. The doctor said I could try gripe water if I wanted but it probably wouldn't help. It sounds like A might have reflux if she doesn't like to be put down. The laying flat hurts

My understanding is gripe water is basically baby Alka Seltzer (so aspirin free). It seems like it would help if the issue is a general upset stomach or heartburn or whatever. If it's gas, I don't think that would help necessarily.
Just tried gripe water and it instantly helped hiccups. So that's nice.
I never needed this stuff with Elena so I'm kicking myself for not even trying it sooner with Mr Gruntapus.
How did you give it to him? I gave A some with a syringe but it seemed kind of forceful
It came with a syringe thing that I used - but I had to give him medicine daily for 4 weeks via syringe so I'm used to forcing him to take something. 😬
They're not the same thing, but they aim to help with the same symptoms -- crying, colic, stomach discomfort.
Gripe water is basically sodium bicarbonate and other additives such as peppermint and ginger - it attempts to soothe the belly. Especially the ginger, like some may drink ginger ale for a stomach ache/nausea.
Gas drops/mylicon contain simethicone -- as @justinslovo said in another thread, it makes the gas bubbles more "slippery" and smaller, and easier to pass.
You can use both treatments to see if either helps. If it's reflux, I definitely recommend an appt with the pedi. DS had really bad reflux and we tried everything. He basically slept on my chest for 4 weeks until we were given Zantac. He still slept like crap, but he was a happier baby and didn't scream every time we put him down.
Gripe water is a favorite in this household. We call it the magic pickle juice (it smells like pickles).
DS had reflux and it helped him. It also stops hiccups in their tracks.
I know you Bf but I'll throw this out there anyway- I would feed C his bottle and then put the gripe water in the empty bottle to feed to him. He never had trouble chugging it down that way.
We use both. DD is really, really gassy and has been since day 1. DD does pretty good as long as we have gas drops in her bottles. We use the gripe water when she's inconsolable around 800 every few nights. One dose seems to settle her tummy enough that she stops squirming and screaming.

My pediatrician said that gas drops work just as well as sugar water---but that they work. She did not like gripe water because of some debate on some ingredients in it. (I didn't ask what those controversial ingredients were)
