Also, dads don't matter. It's always so shocking to people when talking to people and if I don't have my kids with me because they are home with dad. They are always like wtf how did you manage to make that happen?
There is a book I read to DD that I change babysitting to hanging out because it had to do with father's and their babies. DH doesn't babysit, he takes care of DD just like I would if I was home and he's out without kid.
On the topic of putting your kids first, I saw this posted the other day and it rubbed me the wrong way.
Both mom and kids can have and pursue dreams at the same time. And wtf what about dad?
This is really pissing me off. Just moms, not dads. Also...I got my master's and CPA license with two small kids and I dare someone to say I robbed them of something by doing so. No. I showed them how to balance, priorize, and manage life. And got a better salary to be able to afford a better life for them too. This is bullshit.
Amen. I really don't want to start a SAH/working mom war but this was posted by a SAHM. She eats crackers for me and is kind of an idiot, though.
i think leading by example and showing your kids that achieving your dreams is better than being their cheerleader on the sidelines. And that goes for both working and SAH parents, whatever your dream is, show your kids it's possible to realize it.
Dh's job brings in more money than mine- it also takes a lot of his time. He is also back in school part time. This leaves more of the parenting to me. I also haven't pushed to go back to school at this time because I want more time with my kids. It's okay with me because this is my choice. ETA: I still get a little jealously that I'm not back in school...

Maybe you can back in the foreseeable future? Yes, sometimes things HAVE to be put on the back-burner. There are legitimate reasons for it. But saying it's because you are a mom so how dare you ever do anything for yourself....that's what gets me.
DH got his master's first, and I put off going back to school and pursuing my license so he could finish (he got an immediate pay raise with his) and we wanted to pay off his student loans as well before we burdened ourselves with more. I waited 5 years. But it wasn't because I was a mom.

I agree with this to an extent, but there are working mom's and SAHMs that can not have their dream jobs because of the cost of child care and the cost of further education. Some parents absolutely give some things up for the benefit of their kids. You don't have to have a college degree or even a career to teach your kids how to be successful and reach their dreams.

Yeah I know not everyone can actually achieve their goals but not all women have to give up on them so they can live only for their children. And no one said anything about having a college education

I only brought up education to clarify why someone may not be able to reach their goals. I agree that women (and men) shouldn't be told to give their dreams up because they have kids, but some have to. That's all I'm saying. Not everyone has the opportunity to show their kids what "success" looks like.

My sister works pretty much part time but she's training for a triathalon. That's her way of showing the kids that mommy has her own goals and she's working towards them and that is a priority even when she's tired or the kids need something. She has her stationary bike and runs with the jogging stroller and takes them to a gym and swim. Now to me, her goal is annoying AF because it's pretty time consuming and I'm a little jealous she is getting skinny and working out when I'm over here like- i just want to stare at my baby on the couch. So not every goal has to be college or work or whatever. It could be mom writing a book, running a race, learning a foreign language, volunteering or meeting a fundraising goal. It all takes sacrifice and shows the hard work.
