jennyinheaven that's awesome that your Dh is on board. Doing it together will help you both I think. Dh is doing this with me but he's not super strict with portion sizes.

jennyinheaven, that's great that your DH is on board! Mine is generally trying to eat low carb, but the diet I'm doing I'm doing all on my own.
I will say that it's a good program, but hard. You eat 3 meals and two snacks a day, but I'm probably running on around 1500 calories. I don't normally feel *hungry* per se, but it's definitely hard. I'm doing 24 days of this and then will probably try to keep going with the general practices, but expand what I can do a bit. I'm thinking instead of following what she suggests for meals when I don't have soup--a lot of which are salads with protein--I'll start cooking from Cooking Light, or something like that. But I like the soups for one meal a day and the breakfast smoothies, yogurt parfaits, and oatmeals have been good for me to prep the night before and then just eat before I leave or--for the smoothies--bring with me.
I said to DH today that I feel weird about "fasting" today because my diet is all about not having full meals so I'm more or less not sacrificing anything today based on what I've already been eating.
ETA: It's all a matter of creating good habits so even when I'm not strictly following the diet, I generally will make good choices.
I bought the carb cycling book and will read it over the weekend. I lost 1.5 lbs this week by sticking to MFP and eating more veggies. If I cut drastically, I'll fall off the wagon so I'm happy with my loss. I didn't feel to deprived and it made me think whether I was truly hungry before eating something.

That's awesome! I find that drinking a crap ton of water helps with feeling full so I eat less.

Yes, definitely! At work, I've started drinking tea if I want something to eat after I've already eaten. It helps when I want to eat but am not truly hungry (bored, stressed, procrastinating).
I started reading the carb cycling book. I think the concepts are good but I don't think I can stick to it 100 percent, like eating within 1/2 hour of waking up. I'll probably I integrate some of it with MFP, like eating smaller meals more frequently and using the portion sizes they recommend.

Totally. I don't stick to it 100%. I use the food lists, the portion sizes and the meal plans (high carb and low carb meal makeup, days you eat which way, etc)
Susan0utLoud , do you have any good websites for carb-cycling friendly recipes?
I use Skinnytaste a lot, you can filter by all kinds of things, including low carb. Pinterest is a good place, too. We cook a lot and have lots of old recipe favorites that we've adapted over time.
I was away this weekend. I only got one hour of sleep on Friday. This weekend I was constantly starving. I don't know if my clock was off from not sleeping, not having a protein packed breakfast, or what. I didn't eat too much because no matter what, I'd get hungry soon after. Glad to be back home and get back on track. Didn't eat much Easter candy, so that's a win!

Being away from home is hard. I do best at home with my own food. Good job on the Easter candy!!

One thing I learned from weight watchers years ago that stuck with me is just because you fall off one day doesn't mean you should blow the whole thing either. I used to be like that like " Well I already had pizza at work meeting today so might as well say screw it and have ice cream tonight". Life happens and you can't always control everything. If you do fall off a little get beck to it wIth the next meal. On a whole I believe the 80/20 rule works. 80% great choices will have an impact.
I reigned myself in today and stuck to good meals and no snacking. I also did a three mile run and then convinced DH to pick DD up from daycare and do a three mile bike ride. Starting the week optimistic.

This was my thinking for working out as well. Even if I only get one workout a week, at least I did something, then I get back at it next week.

Cauliflower rice recipes. We're getting bored with the traditional "fried rice" with eggs, soy sauce, veggies, etc. Does anyone have any awesome cauliflower rice recipes?

I'm down 5 pounds today. This makes me think I just got on the scale at the wrong time and it was probably water retention or bloat from easter ham. Slightly relieved but still a kick in the butt to get going.
I was looking at my MFP diary and while I'm staying within my calorie range, I'm going way over with carbs and sodium, mainly from processed food, so I'm going to try to work on that. Anyone have any good ideas for work lunches? I'm currently having Smart Ones, which are really high in sodium. And I need some snack ideas besides yogurt, fruit and veggies. My other go-tos during the week are granola bars, which I need to get rid of because they are high in sugar, and microwave popcorn.

For lunch, what about a salad with a lot of protein? Wrap sandwich or pita with a protein filling? Burrito bowl (make the ingredients on the weekend and make a bowl for lunch), homemade soup (make ahead for the week).
Snacks: cheese, almonds, jerky (I think you're a vegetarian, though), Greek yogurt, protein shake, hard boiled eggs.
Have you ever tried making your own granola bars? That could be a way to cut down on sugar but still have a convenient snack. I've never tried but I think I might try.
Susan0utLoud, thanks for the ideas! I really need to start getting back into the routine of planning better. I did for awhile but then we started with the frozen meals because, easy. I've never even thought of making my own granola bars. I'll have to look into it.
lrmrtn, Larabars are really good and only have a few ingredients. My MIL snacks on them and she has diabetes so it's low in sugar. The sugar it does have, comes from fruits.

Also, they will make you super regular because it's basically just dates. The cashew one is super tasty.
I've heard of Lara bars but never tried them. I'm trying to make changes slowly because if I'm too extreme I'll fall off the wagon. I also have to do it so DH will be agreeable. We basically eat the same things so we don't have to think about whose lunch we're grabbing in the morning.

DH is getting on my nerves, lol. I prepped a bunch of salad stuff so it would be easy for the two of us to make lunch salads this week. He forgot to add grilled chicken to his salad today so it was like 56 calories on mfp. He has eaten a total of 360 calories today and is now claiming he is just going to eat broiled flounder and streamed broccoli for dinner and that he isn't hungry at all. He weighs like 230 come on dude! I tried to tell him he needs to eat a certain amount of calories to not put his body into starvation mode, he is like nope.

I just found out that through my work I can sign up at the la fitness signature club near our house for $39.99 a month and $50 joining fee. That's cheaper than we paid for the dinky gym we used to belong to that didn't have childcare.
