How are we already back at Monday? Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.
I think my pumping days are truly numbered--I got 6 oz this morning when I normally get 8-10. I did pick up some Target brand formula this weekend to try out, just need to give it a go. Or just bring it to daycare and say "Figure it out and good luck."
We also finally gave DS2 food this weekend. He seemed to enjoy it, which is great. I am going with pure Gerber first foods for now just to save myself some sanity. Then I hope to make some of my own purees and stock the freezer. Maybe give him some avocado slices/sticks this week once it's ripe.
iwantbacon, 6 oz is still pretty good! I only got 3.5 oz this morning, but Henry nursed really late this morning so maybe that had something to do with it?
Refresh my memory - we should be offering water now? In cups? We have our 6 month appointment today so I'm sure she'll remind me of all the things I should be doing (like brushing his two teeth)...
I forget which cup we started E on - suggestions on a first cup? I need to place an Amazon order.
I woke up and found 12 oz of warm milk that I had defrosted last night. DH said he'd make the bottles before he went to bed. Guess who forgot to make the bottles? So awesome.
A dump truck almost ran me off the road on my morning commute.
DH forgot his keys in the stroller that resides in my car.
Oh, and DD said "Dammit" last night. In context. #momoftheyear
jcrewgirl DS2 nursed twice this morning, so that might be it. ETA--I really hope your morning gets better.
I think water can start once food starts, but that's actually one of my questions for the pedi. I'm hoping to start trying out sippy or straw cups. We started with an Avent sippy with soft uh sippy part that was similar to his bottle.
My pumping has sucked too. I've replaced membranes and turned up the suction and I'm eating cookies/ drinking tea and I'm still having to pull from my freezer stash. I'm also pumping 4 times/ day on the days I'm not as busy at work and I'm pumping once at 9pm at night since he goes to bed at 7. But it seems like I have no control over my pumping output. My body just has peaks and dips. It doesn't help at all when baby eats over night, I'm not nearly as full for that morning pump. I get 6-7 ounces on a good morning pump but lately barely 4. We are starting food in a few weeks as well so I'm hoping that I can give food and use up my 15 bags of milk supplementing and make it as far as possible. Then it's out of my hands. Nothing I can do about not being able to pump more milk. I think there is some med you can order on amazon from over seas that's really good but I can't remember what it's called. And eek.
At DS's 6 month well visit, the pedi said to start him on water and try to get him used to using sippy cups. DS is pretty good at sucking on it and getting water, but you have to hold it for him. Hopefully it won't take too long to teach him how to do it himself. I just bought a regular Munchkin sippy cup, but I have heard really good things about the 360; I should get one and try it out.
DS was up half the night again, totally congested; ooor little bub. I got about 3 hours sleep total, but that doesn't matter because I woke up to the best news ever. A friend of mine who has Lupus and has been in end stage renal failure and has been waiting for a kidney transplant for six years is in surgery this morning receiving a new kidney!! She is a single mom with an 8 year old daughter and she's a wonderful person who deserves this chance at a long life! Please keep her in your thoughts and send as many positive vibes as you can muster to Yale New Haven Hospital in CT this morning.

N didn't have water until he was closer to a year. I don't remember when his pedi told us we could start. I had Gerber hard spout cups that we started with. He actually still uses the 360 cup mentioned.
I think G finally has a tooth breaking through. Yesterday I was holding him, and he drooled on me. I looked at it, and it seemed like it was tinged with red. My first thought was that he cracked my nipple again (he had just finished eating a few minutes before). Upon closer inspection, he had a white spot on his gum that was bleeding a bit. It was off to the side, though, like a canine coming in and not an incisor. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. He also tried green beans for the first time yesterday, and loved them. I've been using Gerber for now, too, until we can get our act together and make food.

jcrewgirl, what a rough start! Hopefully your day gets better. N was around 3, and randomly started saying dammit in proper context too. I didn't know whether to be angry or proud. jwinct, that is so awesome about your friend! I'm sending all the vibes to her and the transplant team.
As far as pumping output, I feel like my supply took a hit after my second bout with the stomach bug and hasn't really recovered. I wouldn't be so stressed about it if G hadn't picked that time to up his intake from the bottle. Day care put on his sheet requesting either additional bottles or solids last week. Luckily, I was able to build a pretty good freezer stash, but I know it's not going to last me 6 months.
We did water with meals because we did BLW with E. I remember taking a cup of water to her infant room when she was a bit older - maybe 8 months?
Just booked my hotel room for a conference in San Diego in August! DH is going with me and we're heading out a little early so we'll have a long weekend to ourselves. I'm so excited!

Daycare also asks me for more milk. I sent little top offs of frozen milk but ultimately I decide how much my baby needs to eat and not them. So don't feel pressured. Breast milk is complete nutrition with varying needs of amounts. Baby does not need exactly the same amount each day. They act like 16 ounces for 9 hours is what he needs and he's fussy if he only gets 13-14. Well. If baby is growing and healthy, I see no need to send more milk than what comes out of my boob. Right now my baby is chubby. Yes he might fuss from time to time but he does that when he's with me sometimes as well when the boob is already empty and he has to be entertained in other ways until the next feeding. 2 ounces/ hour is at the high end of BM consumption. I spend half my time feeling defiant and the other half feeling guilty.

In a bit of a funk lately, I'm pretty sure it's just the sleep deprivation but keeping a close eye on myself in case... Sun's back out today so hopefully that helps.
DS really isn't interested in food yet, tried purees about a dozen times and not a fan. He just keeps the spoonful on his tongue. Doesn't push it back to swallow, or back out. I end up having to scoop it out. So I'm just going to go the BLW route, although I'm really slacking, he gets a "meal" maybe once every second day. I'm just really dreading having another shitty eater (DD is a horrendous eater, texture issues and refuses to try new things).
Busy day today (which is a good thing, I feel worse and everyone is crankier when we don't have plans and stay home all day). Playdate this morning, we'll try and go for a walk with the kids if it warms up a bit. DD has preschool, I'll go for a run with DS. DD has dance tonight and then I have a massage. Really looking forward to it.
becole Domperidome/Motillium? I'm on it as they prescribe it here in Canada. It's definitely helped keep my supply up and DS happier in the evenings (I was pretty much empty in the evenings before which made DS very cranky). I don't pump so don't know how it would affect my supply that way.

+1
H is a porker. He was taking 16 oz at daycare. Last week, we sent in solids on Thursday/Friday. Both days, he only ate 12 oz because he had a jar of food at school. There is no way that he is getting 16 oz of of me on a Saturday or Sunday. I think it's just an easy fix to a cranky baby.

jcrewgirl I don't think we started even practicing with cups until 9-10 months old for my other kiddos. I have a specific cup I like though - I need to look it up and add a link.

jcrewgirl also I'm sorry you're having a real Monday...crappy way to start the week. I get so irritated when DH forgets to make bottles - that's the one baby duty I put him on exclusively and he often forgets to wash or sanitize them, or pack them in the bag for daycare. As for your DD saying "dammit"....I mean, at least she used it in context? LOL

iwantbacon you could always start mixing some BM and formula to get a bit of a transition going. I really like Target's formula and it's SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper than the other name brands, but just as good! I wish I had known about it when I had DS1, but I've made sure to use it with DS2 and DD religiously.

That's such a fun and exciting weekend @holachica!
jwinct sending prayers for your friend for her kidney transplant. That's AMAZING she is finally having it done! I hope this is wonderfully life-changing for her.

That's what I told DH about the context part - he didn't think it was funny. I have a mouth and I swear often. I try and control it but I admit I lose my patience and will say "god dammit" sometimes. At least it wasn't Fuck?
He usually is so good at doing that so I don't know what happened. I'm just annoyed because I specifically remember what a shitty day it was on Christmas Eve because DD had puked the night before like 7 times, H was still fighting RSV, my inlaws were over and I had to sneak away to pump - those were the 12 oz I tossed. So annoying.

I slept like crap all weekend. I don't know what my deal was, but I'm extra tired thanks to it. DD has also been having these coughing fits in the middle of the night (well actually they tend to hit around 4am for whatever reason), and she sounds like something is just tickling her throat b/c she's not really coughing anything up....but she also sounds like she's gagging. I have no idea what is going on. We've been suctioning her (she has only been a little snotty but not too bad), running the humidifier and giving her the zarbee's baby stuff for cough/mucus. I wonder if it's the extra saliva from teething. Either way, it's almost every night lately and she doesn't even wake up from it - but she wakes us up.
Other than that, I feel like the weekend went by way too quickly. I was NOT ready to go to work today, especially after DH was home all last week and able to get the kids up and ready and do daycare drop-off for me. I was getting an extra 30 min of sleep every day! I'll be SO happy when he is done with school and out for the summer and I can have a break.

Your DH sounds like mine. I tend to have a potty mouth as well and I TRY to restrain myself in front of the kids but it still comes out sometimes. Dammit is also a favorite word of mine, as well as shit. So they hear those probably the most and DH gets so pissed off if I do it in front of them.
The fact that you remember what you had to do to pump that BM is worse than the actual forgetting to make bottles if you ask me. Yikes. It makes it sting just that much more to know how hard you worked for it.
I just started oatmeal this morning with dd (she will be 6 months tomorrow). She had about 3 spoonfuls and was like nope done. But she did swallow them and didn't push them back out. So yay. I don't remember doing water til later, like 8 or 9 months. The 360 cups are amazing. I hope I can find all of DSs (we've bought 6 over the last 2 years and they keep disappearing).
Its so nice here today but DS is being a punk. I'm hoping to get them outside soon.
jcrewgirl my pedi told us to start giving water in a sippy now (had our 6m check a week ago). With DS, we used the Nuby 3-stage and moved from the nipple top to the sippy top fairly quickly. Worked well for him, so we will likely do use it for DD.

becole , I sent almost 20 ounces on Wednesday, and he took it all. I nurse him right before we go too. I drop him off a little before 8 and pick him up between 5:30 and 5:45. He sometimes gets fussy right after I pick him up because he's hungry. I'm going to send in some oatmeal on Thursday when he goes for him to have at lunch time. I'm going to write out a new schedule with the bottles and the food to see if that will help.

DD is formula fed and she takes a minimum of 21 oz at daycare (3 bottles for her). Sometimes she even needs her 4th bottle. She's a big girl. And apparently very hungry. LOL
I mean my baby probably would eat 20 ounces if I sent it. Just like I would probably eat 12 cookies if they were in front of me. It's good stuff. I know they say babies don't overeat but his chubbiness tells me otherwise.
