How old is LO: 5 weeks
How is LO doing: doing good so far she has her cranky moments and wants to be held at the worst times but does well when out and about for the most part.
Random but after much googling I found she has whats called "exaggerated Moro reflex". She startles and flips her shit, in the car was bad so we started swaddling her and there has been fewer episodes but poor thing she gets them a lot in the swing no matter what. She's suppose to outgrow it by 6 months. So she still sleeps on me at night, but she sleeps good so I'm gonna keep doing it for now.
Pics/AW moments:she started smiling and wanting to coo, it's so sweet!
How are you doing mentally: I get overwhelmed most days I feel like it's the toddler who drives me nuts so I have to keep him busy or I'll lose my shit. Thankful the baby is still pretty chill and just has moments of hangry.
How are you doing physically: I have my 6 week check up Wednesday. I had a minor tear so I do feel sore sometimes, and lately my pelvis/lower abs have been achy. I just stopped spotting too finally.
Oh and my nips have finally pretty much healed and I can nurse with minimal pain again
How is LO doing: She's still pretty little so eating and sleeping is about it. We just went through a growth spurt where morning was the only time she wasn't eating hourly or more so that was exhausting. Today was less frequent so that was nice.
Pics/AW moments: DS and DD together are adorable. He loves his little sister so much. Snuggling both of them at once is my favourite thing right now, makes up for the times they're both driving me crazy at the same time.
How are you doing mentally: Pretty good. The newborn/toddler combo can be exhausting and overwhelming sometimes when they both need me and I want a break but we're settling in a bit better now.
How are you doing physically: I'm feeling really good already. Tear seems to be healing well as I'm not sore anymore.

How old is LO: 4 weeks How is LO doing: still eating all the time during the day and evening then goes 3.5-4 hours at night. Tummy time is hit or miss on us doing it. She's been fussy lately due to my abx but last night she was actually a bit better so I'm hoping she is back to her chill self. AW moments: I think she's going to have curly hair and it's making me excited! How are you doing mentally: better. I think I'm getting past the baby blues and am not losing my shit as much which is surprising given the cyst and my reaction to the abx along with hers. How are you doing physically: bleeding has stopped I think. I'm starting to feel normal. I keep hitting a wall in the afternoons but I think that will be happening for a while. Her latch when nursing on the left side is messed up so that's starting to hurt. Not sure what the deal is.
How is LO doing: DD is doing pretty well. I'm interested to see how much she's gained at her next appointment, but so far she's been eating and sleeping pretty well. She spits up quite often but has gotten better at burping lately and that's helping. Fingers crossed we start getting some longer stretches of sleep soon but that might be wishful thinking since DS was never a great sleeper.
Pics/AW moments: I love watching DS interact with DD. I thought the excitement would wear off but he just loves her so much.
How are you doing mentally: Ok so far. The pp hormones catch me off guard sometimes with random tears. I need to remember patience first with DS. Poor guy is getting the worst of me some days.
How are you doing physically: I get sore if I overdo things, but recovery is going much better this time. I think I finally stopped bleeding but am afraid to stop wearing a pad.
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc) Sleeping has become more of a hurdle. He tends to fight sleeping in the morning, but usually takes a pretty good nap in the afternoon. (I snuck in an almost 2-hour nap yesterday!) He's usually a pretty good night sleeper. We're still combo feeding. I feel like I should make a decision and pull the plug on one, but for right now it seems to be working for us.
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story) Definitely gotten a few random smiles.
How are you doing mentally: Pretty good. Had a night a few nights ago I was having a bit of a hard time. (C was really fussy, had a bit of "why did we do this?") Other than that, I've been pretty good.
How are you doing physically: Pretty good. I've been super lucky and lost pretty much all the pregnancy weight, but I'm definitely not the same shape I was before.
Questions or concerns about anything? None right now!

How old is LO: 2.5 weeks
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc) She's doing really well! She's taken to nursing like a champ. She poops early and often. She's a mostly okay sleeper...I'm looking forward to her going longer than 3 hours between feedings, but at least she's predictable. She's got a ton of neck strength for a baby that still hasn't even reached her due date. 🙂
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story) She has the cutest milk drunk smile after she feeds. It melts my heart every time.
How are you doing mentally: I'm doing well. I have pmdd and had antenatal anxiety, so I remained on a low dose of an ssri throughout pregnancy. I'm on the same low dose now and have been feeling really good. DH and I are both on the lookout for overwhelm and panic attacks (my main symptoms). How are you doing physically: I miss exercise. My incision is very slow to heal, so I haven't been able to start anything up yet. I was jogging several times a week until about 20 weeks and I'm looking forward to doing c25k once I'm cleared.
Questions/concerns: I'm definitely worried about coping with a high needs 4-year old and an infant once DH goes back to work in two weeks. All my admiration to you ladies parenting toddlers and infants!
How is LO doing: Pretty good on all counts! She eats 4-5 oz every 3 hours and is growing a lot. The past few days she has moved from constant pooping to a few big poops a day. Sleeping is the only thing that is hit or miss. Last night, she was yelling in her sleep so I basically didn't sleep at all.
Pics/AW moments: She's surprisingly strong and can already roll over on purpose during tummy time. We've also started seeing some social smiles, although it's only when she is in the right mood.
How are you doing mentally: Most says I'm good, but I've had a few days where I've really struggled with all the changes. The other day I thought DD might be getting sick, and I had a full on panic attack. (She's not sick, but that could not have been a productive response no matter what we were dealing with)
Physically: I feel great! Honestly, I feel better than before I even got pregnant. All the IVF hormones were messing with my system.
Questions/Concerns: Not really either, just a general comment on myself. I need to get better at going with the flow. It seems like every time I "expect" something or get used to our "routine" something changes, and I get all stressed. I need to stop that.

How old is LO: 5 weeks tomorrow
How is LO doing: She's eating and growing a ton. I'm having trouble getting her to sleep in her crib or bassinets during the day. Right now she'll sleep in the wrap and carseat, or on me. She does fine in the crib at night, but I think our room is too bright during the day. I don't know what the problem is with the RnP or PnP; especially the PnP since it's in the basement which is pretty dark.
How are you doing mentally: Eh...I'd say not great. I can tell it's mostly lack of sleep and hormones. I cry a decent amount, and I've mentioned that I am having the "what were we thinking" thoughts sometimes. Lately I can't believe time is going so quickly, and I feel like my maternity leave is slipping away.
How are you doing physically: Still some pain and it stings when I pee. I'm also walking slower than I used to, but I'm walking now which is an improvement over a few weeks ago.
Questions or concerns about anything? I feel like we're not doing tummy time often enough. She's just not happy and awake for very long each day, and some days I miss my window.
glb30 - I'm also someone who really needs routine and consistency (probably a type A lawyer thing!) and find that to be one of the hardest things about newborn life. Things got soooo much easier when DS1 started being predictable with naps and eating schedules. I want to say that started around 4 months or so? Hang in there, easier days are coming!

How old is LO: 8 weeks. How??
How is LO doing: Max is suddenly a great sleeper (actually he's always been pretty good for a newborn) and not as loud this past week and it makes such a difference in my mood/demeanor. I will swear by "the pause" forever.
He's also consolidated his pooping, a milestone no one really talks about but is so nice. Some day you won't change 100 poop diapers a day!
He's starting to smile a bit. He's holding his head up really well for longer and longer stretches. He march-wiggles and that always cracks me up. (He kicks his legs like he's marching.)
Pics/AW moments: he's wearing some 3-6 mo clothes (!!!) and according to my very unscientific home weighing, is up to 11 pounds. If that's even close to accurate, he's gone from the 2-3 percentile to the 25th percentile on the growth chart in a month! Appt is Thursday. He's got a very long torso, thus the clothing size thing. He's still so skinny compared to my first, but he's getting some chubby cheeks and thighs now.
How are you doing mentally: mostly well. Getting less broken sleep really is a game-changer. Hang in there, you with the tiny babies. It will get better.
How are you doing physically: I'm pretty disappointed that this time I'm not dropping weight as well as I did with my first. I've been really sedentary, though, too, trying to come to terms with two kids, and then being sick for so long right after we brought Max home. I'm putting together a plan for exercise now, working through my days to figure out what I can really do so I don't get too frustrated.
Questions or concerns about anything? Nope. Not today, anyway.

ugaqueencity definitely bring up the bleeding with your OB, because it might not be obvious during your exam - at least, mine came in fits and spurts. I think generally they don't start to worry until 8 weeks, but if it's still pink and still more than spotting, there may be some further investigating your doc will do.
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc): He's good! He's a great napper and does ok with nighttime sleep. I usually get two 3-4 hour blocks then some shorter sessions. I'm stressing a little bit about supply. He eats so often and sometimes seems unsatisfied. I've taken to supplementing with a two ounce bottle, twice a day (after a nursing session). He gobbles it up so I feel like he's not getting everything he needs from me.
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story): nothing specific but I'll say again what an easy baby he has been. He really only cries if he's hungry. And he's just so chill. He'll nap just about anywhere, switches between bottle and breast without issue, doesn't need to be burped, etc. I'm really enjoying him.
How are you doing mentally: some days are better than others. DS1 has been really difficult lately and it's hard when you're already sleep-deprived and busy with a baby.
How are you doing physically: meh. I don't love my PP body. I hate not feeling comfortable in my skin.
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc) Good, he's pretty chill most of the time. Except for when DH has to hold him while he's awake.
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story) He hasn't started smiling or anything yet, but he absolutely loves getting his hair washed by his dad. It's their bonding time lol.
How are you doing mentally: Pretty good. Trying to wrap my head around DH being gone all day now.
How are you doing physically: Saggy. And a little sore around the belly and incision still. Bleeding stopped a while ago, but there's still some annoying spotting occasionally.
Questions or concerns about anything? Is it normal for them to poop just once a day?

How old is LO: 4 weeks
How is LO doing: Pretty well. He's a pretty chill baby, which is a far cry from my first baby. So I'm enjoying him! Up until yesterday, he was only really sleeping in the RnP and I was getting very broken sleep at night. Started Moms On Call and things were much better already yesterday and last night. We'll see if that keeps up and if so, I'll really be able to attribute it to MOC stuff. He nurses great! I'll be interested to see what he weighs at his 1 month appt. I cannot believe he'll be a month old on Thursday!
Pics/AW moments: Nothing too crazy to AW yet. When you talk to him, he looks right at you and seems so interested in anything you have to say. It's sweet.
How are you doing mentally: Meh. I have my moments. The hardest part for me so far has been dealing with DD. She has gotten increasingly difficult. I thought she was taking the transition with having baby brother here okay but her defiance and attitude has really ramped up the last week or so. We even got a bad report from the sitter yesterday and that never happens. That is my biggest stressor. I also have this awful back and forth of getting so frustrated with her and then feeling awful because I feel like I'm picking at her all the time. But she's just been so bad! But, I don't want to be too hard on her and have her feel like I don't love her. The newborn and toddler struggle is SO real.
How are you doing physically: Pretty good! I'm about 4 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm only spotting here and there. I'm able to only have to wear panty liners. Hoping the spotting goes away completely over the next couple of weeks. I'm getting pretty close to being ready for some sexy time so I'll be ready for my 6 week appointment! Which reminds me, I need to make sure to stock up on some lube.
Questions or concerns about anything? Not really. Feeling pretty good on where I'm at with B. Just wanting/hoping things to get a little better/easier with the toddler.
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc) good, she's generally a laid back baby so far. Eating is great when she's hungry, but I'm still trying to feed every 2 hours (3 hours at night) and when she doesn't want to eat it's really frustrating and impossible to get her to.
How are you doing mentally: better than the first time around. I know everything is a phase, but I'm mentally done with my toddler and my pets and their non-stop screaming and annoying me.
How are you doing physically: Good. Bleeding comes and goes but has been manageable since the beginning (no heavier than a light period). Some days I feel skinny, other days I feel gross. I'm down about 17lbs, with another 12lbs to go plus what I'd like to lose beyond that.
Questions or concerns about anything? While I feel like I know what I'm doing with nursing this time, I feel like I'm spending upwards of an hour trying to force dd to nurse on both sides when she seems happy after one. I always did both at every feeding with dd1...when, if ever, is it ok to just stop after 1 side?
Post by moutonrouge on Apr 11, 2017 10:07:15 GMT -5
kaits8 I just nurse on one side. The LCs I have seen say to offer the other side, but LO doesn't have to take you up on it. The only time I offer is if DD is nursing a long time for her, I'll take her off to burp and then do a quick hand expression to see if I can get milk out easily. If I can, she goes back on that side. If not, we'll switch sides if she wants. So basically I only offer if she's awake and I am pretty sure the first side is pretty drained.
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc)
Nursing well. Just got back from the doc. She isn't losing anymore but isn't gaining very quick. I need to keep her awake at the boob a little longer. Everything else is good and i don't want to talk about/ jinx it.
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story)
Dd1 claimed the baby as hers when we were outside with neighbors yesterday. It was cute. She also came over and snuggled me while i was nursing which is big since all she wants for months is daddy.
How are you doing mentally:
Honestly. Great. I find myself just zoning out every once in a while but I feel good.
How are you doing physically:
Again i feel great. It has been so different than with dd1. I do end up doing too much and getting tired. I have to remind myself i had a baby less than a week ago and to just sit down.

@justinslovo is there a bf'ing support group in your area that you can take him to to get weighed? Our hospital also said we can bring babies up to the OB floor to be weighed anytime.
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc) We are doing pretty good here. I am getting some decent sleep with this guy. I am still pumping and giving a formula bottle or two at night. His formula intake will increase as I wean down off the pump before maternity leave is up.
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story) I don't know if this is cute or embarrassing, but I've made up a song about him and pretend like he's singing it to me.
How are you doing mentally: I am doing good now. There were some definite baby blues in the beginning, but now that the sleep has increased, so has the mood. Oh, also now that the sun is shining again.
How are you doing physically: Good here on that too. I had my 6 week check-up and was given the all clear. I haven't exercised since then, but I'm not really an exerciser to start with. I am also trying to eat less snacks. I was eating all the time, but now am trying to just eat at mealtime, if I can help it,
How is LO doing: (feeding, pooping, tummy time, sleeping, etc)
Okay, I think. She's much sleepier than dd1 was. Occasionally this messes with me and makes me think something is wrong, but I think it's just how she is. Her temperament is good. Today is the first day she cried hard and I wasn't sure why.
She's starting to poop less, which is nice. She's been doing 3-4 hour stretches of sleep, but today seems hungry at the 2 hour point.
We just started tummy time, and she seems to tolerate it well.
Pics/AW moments (share pics or a cute/funny/aw story)
I love watching dd1 interact with her. She's so in love and very protective. When she cries dd1 will pat her head and tell her everything is okay.
How are you doing mentally:
Overall I'd say good. Yesterday I had some definite blues made up of worry and guilt. I feel better today. The sun is shining and I think that helps.
How are you doing physically:
Good. I think I've recovered well from this CS. Bleeding is minimal. I'm looking forward to the weather warming up a little so I can start taking walks.
Questions or concerns about anything?[/quote]
Second time moms, have you noticed being less engorged this time? I feel like I never feel super full, but dd seems satisfied and is having good wet diapers so I don't think I need to worry. I just don't remember this little engorgement so soon with dd1.
Post by kristhegirl on Apr 11, 2017 14:58:37 GMT -5
jellykat2 my boobs seem to remember making milk at a normal rate and haven't even really ever gotten hard (heh) this time around. Even when my milk came in, I just noticed the color/consistency change in what came out. No engorgement.

Thanks. I was thinking maybe the body just remembers what it's doing, but wanted to hear if others had experienced the same thing.
