I'm pumping. Trying to get ahead of it again. What are you all doing for first foods? Veggies? Meat? Fruit? I'm not doing oatmeal cereal until I go through all the veggies.
We are starting with some veggies before going to fruits. So far, sweet potato, carrots, and green beans (I though we did butternut squash, but I was confused). Once the avocado at home ripens, we'll hit that up. I'm putting off meat as long as possible.

We started with two weeks of yellow/orange veggies per ped, then added in the rest of the veggies. Starting fruit next week after a month of veggies, then protein in month three. Not adding in cereals yet at all.
Kiddo is super sick. Caught a cold, wish we hadn't dragged him to DH's work yesterday cause pretty sure that's where he got it. He had a fever of 102 last night and he's congested and it's all in his chest. Poor kid is miserable and doesn't understand why mommy and daddy aren't able to fix it. Stayed home with him.

Tired this morning... as always.
My mom is annoying me so much lately. I decided to go the BLW route for food with DS. Did all my research and he's been doing decent the last few days. She was over for dinner last night and he gagged on a piece of banana (totally normal), she freaked out and said he was choking and that I shouldn't be giving him such large pieces yet, yada yada. I told her it was just normal gagging but she insisted he was choking. So she mashed up the banana and fed it to him. I was fuming but held my tongue and just let her do whatever. No more feeding him in front of her for a while I guess. My kids, my decisions. You raised yours, back off.
Roofing materials just showed up (at 730 am) they rang the bell to tell me they were dropping off the materials. Really? Hadn't noticed the massive, loud truck in front of our house. Good thing DS and I are already up and DD sleeps through everything. Who rings a doorbell that early?
Really need to get the kids Easter baskets together today while DD is at school.
DD loved playing in her kindergarten classroom last night. DH was super emotional seeing her in a school setting. She's so excited to go in September.
@kitchen I hope your baby is feeling better this morning. I just saw your post from Monday.
becole We started with veggies: sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, and carrots. Then I tried the rice cereal. She really liked squash and rice cereal. I think in May we'll start fruits. I am still trying to get in the groove of feeding baby food.
We also started with veggies (green beans, carrots, and peas), but I am hating purees. I'm considering making the switch to table food. Purees are just so time consuming and messy. I did give her a hunk of banana the other day, and she was so interested in it (much more so than with the purees). Tomorrow is DS' spinal tap, and I'm so looking forward to all of this jazz with his pressure on his optic nerves to be over with. We will either find out if it is nothing or if he needs to be on medicine for a few years. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is nothing!
hikingmama222 sorry about your mom. I'm sure my mom will act the same way once I really dive into the table food route. macaronmama hope your little guy gets better asap!
I was supposed to cover an event tonight, but then my sister in law came to town early. I had anxiety over asking my editor to put someone else on the assignment. I did already and I think everything is ok since I'm working on some things. I know it isn't a requirement and I'm a free lancer so I can take stories as I choose, but I feel like I left the paper down. Anxiety bites so bad. I might have bitten off more than I can chew with starting a blog and then writing for the paper. It could just be an adjustment period too since I haven't worked in almost 4 years. Sorry for the vent.
penguin129 , I'm proud of you for turning down that story. You recognized your limits and absolutely did not let anyone down. Maybe just write out a plan for yourself of which days you'll write for the paper and which days you'll blog. And if you have extra time one day, you can write an extra blog post, but not have it post until a later day. Feel better little macaron! macaronmama My mom is super annoying with blw too hikingmama222 .
Thank you so much. Mr. P reminded me the paper is for fun and I don't have to take every assignment they send me. I went back and forth so much. I even sent my editor an email telling him to disregard my email asking to be taken off the story. He got back to me this morning and told me he could find someone else to cover it if I wanted him to and I thanked him. I feel really stupid he saw my flip flopiness, but I just know it would be too much. My mother in law said the whole family could just come to the event since it was a walk/run, but the idea of having my extended family there while I'm working on the story is just too much.
Apparently I have all the feels about taking myself off my assignment today. It is only the 3rd assignment I've been given and don't want them to think I'm unreliable.
becole we've done avocado, banana, carrots, cauliflower, and asparagus.
hikingmama222 I hear you on the relatives and BLW. Our families think I'm crazy. MIL is particularly crazy about choking. DS1 is 2.5 and if he gags or coughs at all while eating, she will still jump up and yell "he's choking!"
hikingmama222, My MIL was like that around DD so I didn't feed DD around her. It's a good thing too because we were at their house when I discovered DD's peanut allergy, and I am so thankful MIL didn't witness the reaction. Double whammy. Feeding by 7 month old toast AND peanut butter. The horror.
Rather than just get angry and frustrated, I tried educating MIL on BLW. Not that it worked but I also wanted her to know that I did my research and had the support of our pediatrician.

becole, we started with oatmeal cereal. G has now had sweet potatoes, squash, and green beans. We've only been doing solids for two weeks (G will be 6 months on Friday), with new foods every 4 days. I'm debating doing either carrots or apples tomorrow. I've been using Gerber food to start. He gets oatmeal at lunch time and veggies at dinner. Eventually we'll make our own stuff. No meats until we get closer to a year.
I didn't pump or feed G this morning before I left, so I am a bit sore. Good thing it's almost time for my pump break. Yesterday I was only able to pump 10 ounces at work, which is not enough for G when I'm not there. I think I'm going to talk to the pedi on Friday about the possibility of giving formula during the day and nursing when we're together. Is anyone doing that now or done that in the past? I still have frozen milk and am still pumping, but I doubt I'm going to make it to a year without giving any formula.
smallpotato with my first, I made up what I couldn't pump with formula and we nursed when we were together. Sometimes I gave him formula on the weekend if I really thought my supply wasn't cutting it. We nursed to 17 months. It's not just about nutrition, but the cuddles and relationship and ease of nursing when together. I found that doing both was a great balance and it allowed my baby to continue to get Bm for as long as possible. Supplementing to extend BF makes sense to me. Especially if you're pumping, your supply should stay.
My day started off by knocking my open glass container of foundation off the counter. Foundation flew all over a pile of dirty clothes, the cabinets, and the floor. Not to mention the broken glass scattered throughout the bathroom. I thought today was the day I'd actually make it to work on time. Nope.
Then DS1 was complaining of a tummy ache. It's so difficult to know with a 3 year old what's actually going on. I guess all I can do it turn my cell phone ringer on and wait for a call.
adouces06 - Good luck with the procedure! I hope all goes well.
erien22846, that sucks about the foundation. That stuff can be hard to get out of clothes if not treated immediately.
When DD2 got up this morning, the wire from her braces popped out on one side. So, I called the orthodontist and of course our local office is closed today, so we had to drive to their farthest office. So, instead of 2 minutes, it took us 30 minutes to get there. I didn't get to work until 10:30. At least my day should go by more quickly, I hope.

Sounds like a few of you have had some rough mornings and starts to the day. I hope things go up from here! It's so frustrating to start the day out with problems.
We had a decent morning for once - kids cooperated getting ready and out the door and DS1 volunteered to feed DD this morning on his own, so I was able to skip that and get things ready to go while she was eating, which helped me get out the door early and to work early! That never happens.
Once I got to daycare, the lead teacher in the infant room reminded me that the Easter bunny was coming today for pictures with the kiddos. I totally forgot. Good thing I dressed DS2 and the baby in cute, springy outfits unintentionally. Speaking of Easter, DS2's party/egg hunt is tomorrow so I have to make sure to fill up 12 eggs with candy for it and also pick up some cookies for the class party. Also have to send in eggs and an Easter basket for DS1 for Friday's party/egg hunt. My head is spinning with everything I need to do.
Lastly, I'm starting to plan for DS2's birthday party next month - he asked for dinosaurs so I managed to order invitations and a cute t-shirt for him today (it has a picture of a t-rex and says "Three-rex" on it) and I am eyeing supplies and décor now.

C only woke up once last night! I was about to try a night of cosleeping tonight if she hadn't slept better last night bc she'd been doing multiple wake ups all week and I was dying at work.
She has had avocado, carrots, and peas so far. Still waiting for her tongue to stop fighting her lol. It's like it has a mind of its own.

Hope your littles feel better soon, macaronmama, jwinct, and @kitchen.
hikingmama222, so sorry about the disagreement with your mom, and ugh to the roofers showing up so early. The people who own the house behind us are doing some construction, and I heard a saw and air compressor going until almost 10:00 last night. Luckily, N's window was closed and he also sleeps through anything, but I was annoyed hearing it.
adouces06, thinking of you and your little guy. I hope it's nothing!
penguin129, congrats on the front page byline! You definitely did the right thing with the assignment; if you don't think you can concentrate on it with your family around, it would probably show in your work. I get where you're coming from, though; I hate letting people down and saying no to things. It's so hard.
erien22846, so sorry about the foundation. That sucks that it got all over the place.
ksyknelvr73, what a cute idea for a birthday shirt!

becole, thanks for sharing your experience. I think I'll continue pumping for a while, and reevaluate when my frozen stash runs out. You are absolutely right about the relationship; I told MH that I love the snuggles and the quiet at night when G nurses before bed. It's really the only time that it's just the two of us anymore. That's why I actually don't mind too much when G wakes overnight, because it's an extra snuggle time. As long, of course, as it's only one wakeup.
For first food, we did oatmeal (this is day 3). After the weekend we will move to veggies. Carrots, peas, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes will be on the docket. Couple of weeks of veggies and then we will move to fruit.

smallpotato I stopped pumping with DS1 and switched to formula during the day with nursing first thing in the morning and at bedtime. It worked well until my supply died out and he decided he only wanted the bottle. I'm hoping to do the same with DS2.

They got someone else to do the story. I'm having anxiety over it though. I started an anxiety journal to help me see how bad it really is. I might go up on dose next week.
