In 5 years I'll have 5 and 8 year old boys. I imagine we'll be in the same house, with the same jobs, just watching the kids grow up. Hopefully getting in a decent spot financially since we'll be done with daycare at that point. I'd like to be close to finishing my masters in math by then.
I find it odd how often conversation turns to Disney among this group. It's not at the top of my list at the moment, but maybe my kids will be interested in going within 5-10 years.
My bosses go 3 or 4 times a year and DH's family is constantly asking about us taking the girls, I'm tired of hearing about it. I've never been and I'm okay with that right now. I don't have a desire to go until the girls are around 9 and 10 years old.
I am like you. I have never been to Disney ever and would only go when Peyton is older. I have been to Universal Studios with Matt and his brother years ago, but we did one park per day and then that was our compromise and started our real vacation after driving to the beach town we were staying at.
I actually hate waiting in line and spending a week at a different park and walking all day for rides sounds not fun to me. I get it is fun when you are there, but I still do not want to spend my whole vacation time doing that.
I am conflicted about Disney. Part of me really wants to bring DS and part of me doesn't want to spend the money or deal with the hassle. Everytime someone talks about going or posts pics, I get jealous. I'm a travel junkie so there are so many places I want to go and bring DS so it's really going to be figuring out where our money goes the farthest and what DS will get the most out of at whatever age he is for when we are planning the trips.
Find our forever home! Start the kids in some activities. I may or may not drop down to part time depending where we go and MH's job. Get another car. Go to Disney and another family vacation
No clue! We're pretty settled at the moment so there's no real 5 year plan in place, just keep on keeping on. We just talked about how long are we staying in this house as we were choosing a new furnace, but we didn't come to a conclusion. House shopping and moving sounds like too much work.
I think we're done having babies, so I guess the kids will be in school. I'll probably be working in some capacity, but I'm not sure what. I could go back to freelancing or contracting, but I'm not sure I'll want to, and if I don't keep it up now it will be harder to get going again. I only want to work part time so we don't have to worry about after school care and all that.
I'm not opposed to a minivan. We did 2 days at Disney on our honeymoon, actually magic kingdom and Epcot one day, universal studios and islands of adventure another. Late August right when school starts up is a fantastic time to go.
Hopefully moving to our forever home in another year or two. And despite some of the cons of my job, I may still be here. Hoping DH can figure out what he really wants to do with his career. Bliz reminded me our cars will both be paid off in the early part of 2020 so we can keep putting that money away and go back to Bermuda for our tenth anniversary later that year. I also want us to travel more. DH didn't go many places as a kid (except Disney a million times. Haha.) so I want to make sure our kids get to experience a lot of different places like I did growing up.
In 5 years SS will be almost 21 and aspires to be a Pilot so hopefully he'll be working and on his own.
SD will be 17 and in 11th grade so probably looking into colleges for her.
Dd will be ; can't wait to see who she is then!
Belly baby will be almost 5!
I hope we take the leap and move to GA like we've been talking about for the past 3 years. I'd love to find more time to focus on MH and my relationship as the kiddos will be older and more self sufficient.
We love traveling and have been able to make it work so far; so hopefully more traveling.
Like comicSans mentioned, we're pretty settled these days. H has a job he loves with a good trajectory and I'm starting a new job next month that offers some nice comfort and perks (they asked if I'd ever be interested in a transfer - which we might be - we've never really strayed too far from our homes so a different city would be nice).
Travel is on our list big time. We intend to take O to Disney in 2019 for the opening of Star Wars land. But we're definitely traveling before then, Europe in 2018 with my family. I intend to look into a family cruise for this fall.
We want to finish off all renos in our home within the next two years. I still have fingers crossed that we'll either build or find a house I can see us staying in forever because this current place doesn't feel like our forever home.
We hope to have our second child within the next year. Career wise I don't see anything changing, I don't plan on changing schools, and I think I will stay in special ed. My husband will hopefully get promoted to project manager. I'm not sure about moving or not. I love our house, my husband likes it but thinks we will outgrow it. So I'm not sure if we will move, but if we do it will before DS gets into kindergarten or first grade.
We are actually at Disney right now, and will probably come again when our second child is this age or a little older. We also plan to travel a lot within the next few years.
Debt free is a big one for us and something we have been working really hard towards recently.
Hopefully I will have given up work - although that's been our plan for years now and keeps getting thwarted.
Then, I could be more involved in the kids school and after school clubs.
I'd like both sets of grandparents to have bigger more positive roles in their grandkids lives...(yep even MIL as much as it pains me), but that probably won't happen).
DH would be closer to early retirement, which hopefully with his new job is a possibility.
In the meantime, we could join him as a family wherever he is working and get lots of free holidays and great travel experiences for the kids.

Hopefully in our forever home and working on buying our second retirement home in the mountains. We plan on purchasing in our early fifties/late forties and using it at as weekend and holiday place until retirement. I have no idea what I'm going to do for work but I'm planning on looking for full time again once J gets to first grade. Hopefully DH will continue and grow in his current position he is doing great and is happier since his job change a year ago.

Oh and Disney. I went when I was young it was fun but sticks in my mind no more or less then family camping trips, trips to the shore etc. I don't really plan on taking J I think family time and travel/exposure to different things will be more our bag. It's a fancy theme park, dnw to spend our vacation time and money waiting in line etc.
NJgirl84, if you become an actuary, you can come work at my company. They always have postings for actuaries.
I'm in the retirement group at my job and my boss is trying to convince me I'm not too old to get credentialed. He is credentialed and didn't become an actuary until his 40's. Plus, I can go a special route in retirement and only need 2 more exams. Most other jobs I would need at least 5 more to have credentials.

Well, it would have been fun to have a friend at work! But I suppose you're close enough. Speaking of which, we need to do lunch...

Yes we do! I'll PM you, it's crazy at work right now so I need to look at my schedule.
Hopefully will be in a house in a local school district, so DDs can ride the bus to Spanish immersion school. I'm hoping to be teaching part-time or maybe subbing at their school.
Hoping DH has a good job with benefits. I think it's year four of temp work since law school.
Paying off/way down our student loans and go on our first vacation since honeymoon.
Oh man, I feel like 5-10 years is so far away but it really is just a blink of the eye.
I think we will have moved to a bigger house in the school district we want in the next 5 years. We may keep the house we own now and rent it since it's value should only increase. I'll have an 8 year old and a 5 year old which just seems crazy to me. DH and I are big on saving for retirement and travel so I'm hoping that with both kids out of daycare, we could be in a better position to max out retirement accounts and do some really cool family trips. Disney is on the radar in the next 5 years but we'd also love to take the kids to Italy and at some point do an actual African safari.
Career wise - I'd like to have moved on from my current position - maybe finally move federal? I'm really not sure. I'm open to options but right now I feel like I'm still making it day by day and figuring out life with two kiddos and learning how to to balance my work life with personal life.
