Well there will be a meal, that I can't eat 😒 I am glad my friend that has a small hand in planning thought if that and let me know so I can eat before going over.
Okay... dumb. Sorry if that's harsh. If you invite someone you know has an allergy, you don't serve food they're allergic to!
Agreed. I actually think if you are hosting something like that you should find out if guests have allergies. Even if you don't know them you can find out. But that's good that your friend at least gave you a heads up so you can eat before.
Fun story: MH side of the family threw me a baby shower when I was pregnant with Ava. At noon, so right during lunch time. They served Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets and fruit. And that was it. And they know I'm vegetarian. I was a very hungry pregnant lady when I left a few hours later.

zonagirl, welcome to the Sesame Club! Related, my nephew was just given a diagnosis of being on the spectrum and my sister and I were talking about the most recent Sesame episode that introduces Julia, an autistic muppet, and how it gave us all the feels. Such strong Sesame feels here.
th3stryck3r that was the first episode that we watched! I thought it was so well done! I listened to an not story about it and they said that they had been developing her character for five years, so they really took the time to get it right.

Also, ampaints, that it messed up. I always make sure I have food to accommodate a range of diets— gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, and I take allergies (nuts, etc) into account to. It actually really isn't that hard, because most dietary restrictions are pretty mainstream now.

I really think some people don't get it. My mil will cook me up some veggies when we come for thanksgiving. Vegetables..... sure there's bread and mashed potatoes that I can all eat but still.
I'm getting annoyed. I have been sitting at the grocery store for 10 min and no one is picking up the "pick up" line when I buzz it. FWP, for sure. But damn. I'm in my pickup window. Give me my stuff!

Let's be real. Bacon is annoying sometimes. I'll go to a party and here will be a delicious vegetable salad but it's got bacon in it.

This reminds me of people giving my sister a hard time for looking so long for a resort for their wedding. Her fiance has celiac and he wants to eat at his own wedding (shocking right?!). LOL I couldn't believe people were that weirded out by it. Like we're going to be there a full week, it's probably important that they serve him food.
My dad had a good night and the vascular surgeon is taking out his old port today which likely caused the clot. He might even get release tomorrow. I was kind of freaking out last night but he seems more okay today. My dad is awesome. His illness really sucks. H is supposed to do a memorial bike ride for one of my professors who died cycling last year. It is out of town. Now that my dad looks better, we might still go.
Thanks for the kind thoughts, ladies. Much appreciated.
Agreed zonagirl and th3stryck3r. It's just not that hard, and most hosts I know ask right away if anyone has allergies. You know, because we don't want to kill anyone with a walnut brownie! My cousin just makes a gluten free, vegan cake for her kids' birthdays so she doesn't have to worry. I'm seriously side eyeing your hosts, ampaints.

Similarly, my mother in law, who knew I was a vegetarian, called me about the rehearsal dinner. She was listing menu options and said, "well everyone likes pork, but you don't eat it so I guess we can't do that." Guess what the main dish was at the rehearsal dinner? This is the same lady who threatened to not come to the wedding more than once because we weren't doing things on her timeline, so I wasn't surprised.

Or a Caesar drssing with dressing made with anchovies. So close!
I guess I don't get the whole being clueless about non meat options because I was a meat eater for the first 21 years of life but I still ate meatless all the time. Also there seems to be an in-law theme here...

MY MIL is pretty nice but I recently found out that she has been making her holiday rice (which she stuffs into birds but leaves some on the side for me) with chicken stock. Also, most of the "vegetarian" dessert salads have jello, so I just quietly avoid eating those.

After DS was born I was vegan for about a year, and my mom was like Surprise I made you chicken! It was so funny though because she wasn't being malicious at all just thought that vegan meant vegetarian + chicken.
I do like cooking meatless meals though. No thawing, no excessive forethought into that and they can be more creative sometimes.

Omg yes! Dude beef broth and chicken broth are not vegetarian. One time we went to my inlaws and she asked for my chili recipe. I was so happy she was making a meatless meal. She called while we were on our way to say "I don't have vegetable broth can I use chicken broth? If not can you pick up some vegetable broth?"
I am about 98% sure the cheesy potatoes she makes at thanksgiving have chicken broth in them. I just pretend otherwise though otherwise I'd have vegetables and fruit to eat.

Hi! We're alive and the night went oddly well. Like almost too well and it's making me nervous. We kept her up until about 8:30 then H read her some stories and put her down. She fussed a bit and cried a bit but nothing of what we expected. She fell asleep by 9. I personally didn't hear her at all throughout the night and she woke up her normal time of 7am. She keeps sticking out her hand and saying "no" which is kind of adorable but other than a couple tears, this has been going really well. The toughest part was when we took it off this morning to wash it and put it back on. That pissed her off pretty good..
Cramps have subsided. Poppy is napping and I am drinking a bloody. Shaping up to be a good day.
Is that vodka and tomato juice? What else is in there. We only really have caesars around here but I just love them and a bloody mary sounds amazing right now.

tuscanlatte, vodka, tomato juice, horseradish, and a squeeze of lemon are the main things. I like a little celery salt and a big green olive garnish in mine too.
