LizInFL have you checked out the app DoorDash a lot of places that don't offer delivery is on there for delivery. You do pay a small fee. So far I've seen is between $2.99-$6.99. I checked our area and our local dunkin isn't on there but my friend claims she has gotten donuts delivered
Edit: cfa is on though
I haven't heard of that, I will have to check it out. Thanks!
lfigge lol at your BIL. You are a saint for having a guest that long. I don't blame you for being 'over' company; I feel that way and we've just had a steady stream of onesie-twosies this winter and spring, not someone who moved in for two weeks!
From they eye surgery she seems to be doing well. Her eyes are scary red, but they said they will be like that for about a week. And she's not trying to rub them as much so that's good. I think the discomfort is lessening for her. We have to put antibiotic ointment on them 2x a day. That's the only real difficult part. But she seems to now be coming down with a cold or something. She's had a constant flow of thick snot all morning and then fell asleep at 10. She normally doesn't nap till 12:30 or 1. So it should be an interesting (and long) afternoon.
Does anyone own (or think about owning) an "older" home built before 1960?
Are they money pits? In my head they are all brimming with asbestos and lead paint.
European here... my house is from 1896, there isn't a straight line in sight, there's always a draft, but I love the high ceilings and character ☺.
I feel ridiculous calling a 1960 home "old" but I'm a west cost girl and it seems ancient! Do you have one of those sweet thatched roofs nam2013 that would earn you house street cred in my book.

I have a 1910 house.
Key is get a good inspection so you know what you're dealing with.
We had a handful of big things wrong - but we knew about them before closing and we got estimates so we were able to negotiate with the previous homeowners for the big stuff.
calishove we have lived in two approx-100 y.o. homes. Our current house was built in the late 1990s. Honestly, I think older homes (like, '80s and prior) were generally built more soundly and of better materials than stuff that gets thrown up now. Big things to look for: are windows updated? (Old windows can be very energy-inefficient, causing high heat/AC bills). What about plumbing and electrical? Pre-1970s, you do have to worry about lead and asbestos so def. have that covered in the home inspection like 73jewels said.

@calishov my house was built in 1946. It had the original kitchen and bath when we bought it in 2005. It only had 1 owner before us. We have basically rebuilt the whole thing but every contractor we worked with said the bones were better than new construction.
Happy Sunday! We did chores and spent the early afternoon playing outside. Now the boys are napping, most of my Sunday chores are done, and DH and I are relaxing on the couch. I'm not sure I'm going to nap, but this is nice, too.
I slept in this morning and woke up in a pretty good mood compared to yesterday. I think C has allergies because he's got a cough and runny nose but no other symptoms. The weather here has been so up and down. I think I'm going to call the Dr tomorrow and see if there's anything I can give him. Right now he's just in Zarbees cough syrup and it helps a little but not a lot. He was up at 6am and is trying to nap now but keeps coughing.
Sam has done seasonal allergies and we give him children's Claritin 1 x per day. He hasn't had any side effects - and his season is summer/fall so he doesn't need it now. He still asks if he can have some every day
We went for a walk on the trail and took Colin's balance bike for the first time. He did a great job and rode for 1 1/2 - 2 miles, telling everyone we passed "look at me" and "I'm riding my bike!" DH is day drinking due to anxiety but being very sweet about it. Maybe that's why I feel so calm, because someone needs to keep a cool head right now.
At this age I would 100% stay. My friends with older kids say drop off parties start around 7, give or take
That's what I think is a good age as well. So, this was a daycare friend so I 'know' him from drop off and pick ups. The hostess has too much to do already so I just watched both B and him, fed them, made sure they went to the washroom, didn't have too much pop/soda etc.
I was salty about it but dropped my attitude to just make sure the kids had a good time.
ETA: then the kid invited himself over to play with B, he told me he'd come 4 times. I guess i did ok watching both, lol
That's weird that they just left the kid w a virtual stranger. And rude. I'd be pretty salty unless it was discussed ahead of tone
tgrimes1980 what a great dollhouse! I love the staircase. FFSC: I wanna play...
+whatever to giving the kids allergy meds. B's pedi just put him on Zyrtec bc of some snoring/breathing issues he was having. Hard to tell bc he has a cold but I think the Zyrtec has taken care of the problems! Allergies never really occurred to me but I would much rather this solve the issue than need his adenoids taken out or something else invasive.
15yrs of water polo and I never got a black eye or bloody lip. 3.5yrs of having a child and I have a big gash in my lip thanks to him bouncing on the bed.
Same thing happened a few weekend ago when we were at my in laws. It was really bad - looked like I got punched in the face.
I gave C some Claritin. I don't think it's helping. Does it take a few days? I bought Zyrtec too that I can try tomorrow. He's in great spirits and when awake pretty ok but laying down the post nasal drip keeps him up.
Yes. It takes a few days. I can't remember how long when we started it but I think I noticed improvement by day 3.
snoopmommymom that house is cute and I love the landscape. There is lots of room for the kids to play. nam2013 cute style house as well. I can't wait to see the after pics.
calishove we are not a handy family and don't have many tools. We bought a newer construction. How long do you plan to be there? How much reno are you interested in? Maybe you can find am affordable old home that has already been flipped.
Thanks for sharing your houses!
We are also not a handy family. We are not concerned with needing to update just for aesthetic reasons and would happily make superficial improvements like paint/floor coverings.
Foundation issues, asbestos, lead paint, water damage, etc. Those are different beasts, we also don't want to have to update electrical/plumbing. Costly stuff you may not see in an inspection done by a general house inspector.
