Either/Or but not somewhere in between. I grew up in a tiny town (pop 1200) and that was great - space to run and play, privacy, great outdoorsy activities. But there are zero job opportunities there, so I spent the first 20 years of my adult life in big cities. I loved the city and its conveniences and cultural stuff. I didn't own a car for 15 years. But we couldn't afford to live in the city and raise a family so we moved to the suburbs, something I said I'd never do. I'm still new to it but so far it's living up to my low expectations. We say we're going to go into the city but we never do. We have a yard but it doesn't feel very private with houses all around. The traffic is bad. It's pretty boring and I haven't met anyone I really like yet.

Definitely small town/rural which is where we currently live. I have done city and suburbia and both were too claustrophobic and busy for me. I enjoy my space and privacy! We are 45 miles to the biggest city in the state which is also where I work but it is a small state so traffic is not an issue.

I grew up in both a small town and suburbs and both irked me in their own ways. We currently live in a city, but it's a small city, and I love it :-) everything is so close and accessible, but you don't have to sacrifice space because all the houses are still really roomy.
