Well I finally got around to typing this up. It's long LOL.
PDQ
Friday April 7, 2017 - 8AM membrane Sweep - 2cm and 60% effaced. I worked until my mother dragged me away from my desk at 2pm. Prodromal labor but nothing significant.
Saturday April 8, 2017 - Contractions started around 4AM. Steady 7 minutes apart for 4 hours. Called my mom and doctor and we were going to head to the hospital. Decided at the last minute that they were not strong enough yet so I labored at home on the ball all day. Sent my mom home around 7pm to get some rest. I tried to sleep but couldn't.
Sunday April 9, 2017 - I woke up MH at 1am and said it was time to go. I called the on call line and then talked to my MW and went to the hospital around 2am. I checked in and walked to labor and delivery all while having back labor. We got the triage and they hooked me up to monitors for a bit to measure my contractions. The resident came in and checked me at 3cm and 60 % effaced. I was pissed. My mom arrived so I sent MH home to sleep as I knew it was going to be a long day. So they had me walk around and would recheck me in 2 hours. I was in a lot of pain so walking wasn't really what I wanted to do. No real progress so they said they would give me another hour. They knew I was scheduled to come in the next morning for induction anyways.
Shift change happened and the new resident (who I told I loved about 5 times) came in and checked me and said I was 3 to 4 and 70% so they admitted me!!!! Yay!
We got settled in our room and I told my amazing nurse I wanted an epidural because I was in so much pain from the back labor. So they had to put in an IV. I told my nurse what a baby I am and how hard my veins are so she grabbed the most senior nurse to try to help find the vein to use. Two blown veins later they called in the anesthesiologist to come place it in the back of my hand. He was ready to do my epidural at that point but my nurse said not yet.
MH and his mom came to the hospital at bit later and my mom went out to get the thank you gifts for the nurses so we gave them to them at that point. Shift change for the doctors came and the new doctor came in to tell me I was his favorite because of the gifts for the nurses station. So he checked me and we chatted a bit. He then decided he would break my water, give me the epidural and get my baby out before midnight (I made it clear I didn't want her to be born on my grandmother's birthday - the 10th).
At that point I was 4 to 5 cm and the anesthesiologist came in. I was obviously terrified because I don't do needles or doctors so my amazing nurse helped me through a 45 minute epidural with 3 pokes into my spine and 5-7 lidocaine shots. (The next day she told me she has never had an epidural take that long). I had 10-15 contractions during that time and screamed when the first needle went in. MH and his mom heard me scream and they were all the way down the hall. My mom stayed in the room with me because I didn't want to be totally alone.
After the epidural started working (I still had pain in my back but not as badly) I was able to get some sleep since I had been up for 36 hours at that point. MH and MiL left to go get dinner and let the dog out. My mom and I dozed for a few hours. At 7PM (nurse shift change
) they came in and I was fully dilated and effaced with just a tiny bit to go. They put the peanut ball between my legs for 30 minutes or so and then we started to push.
Baby M was born at 9:17 PM with her arm near her head and the cord wrapped around her body. She wasn't very responsive at birth so MH cut the cord and they took her over to the warmer to clear the fluids from her and the neonatologist came in and checked her. The doctor was really confused as to why she wasn't 100% because she didn't show any signs of distress on the monitors. She was away from me for 5 minutes or so and they put her back on my chest for skin to skin. They started pitocin and delivered the placenta and then the doctor spent an hour fixing my popped blood vessel and 3rd degree tear. I lost a lot of blood.
I let her get weighed around an hour after birth. She weighed in at 9lbs 5ounces and 21 inches long. My mom and MIL held the baby and took pictures and then MIL left after holding the baby.
I couldn't pee and it was 11:30pm and I wanted to get to the postpartum floor so they straight cathed me and emptied my bladder and brought me up to postpartum. They sent a security guard with us because the angel monitors don't work between the floors. In postpartum MH left to go home to sleep and mom and I got settled with the baby, and we both ate. I was exhausted so my mom held M while I slept for a little bit. They checked her sugars every 3 hours because of her size and she had normal sugars for all 4 readings so they stopped.
TL;DR - 41 hours of labor and baby M is healthy.
