UO: not allowing cell phones at school during the lunch hour. This is apparently an UO with a few in our office that are complaining about it. There is a school that just recently passed this or it's up for voting, I can't remember. They basically want to not allow cell phones during the lunch hour so that the kids can actually socialize and not spend their time on the phone.

That puppy reveal was terrible....did they not look to see the gender? Was it a surprise to them? Did anyone care if it was a girl or boy? On the other hand it is a cute puppy. I'm glad they adopted it.
Give me short shorts, but not butt hanging out shorts, which apparently is popular amongst teen girls now. Hard no to mom shorts, I haven't turned into my mother yet.

Are Bermuda shorts "mom shorts"? If so, I'm guilty. I have fat thighs and I don't like them rubbing together.

I would have to see them to judge. 😜 I've owned Bermuda shorts but not the baggier kind. If you watch the parody video that's what I truly envision with mom shorts. I think I would only wear a pair like that if I had a summer casual work thing that we could wear shorts too. And even the I would probably choose capris.
I do tend to go with capris more post kids since I'm already ghostly white plus some cellulite mixed in now. I keep shorts for home/beach/friends houses. At least until my legs get a little color.
I would choose a summer dress over shorts anytime. Once the kiddos are older and I'm not as worried about flashing people when chasing them I will be back to dresses all summer.

My fat thighs are the reason I don't like bermuda shorts. They never fit properly. I hate when the bottom hem of the shorts cuts into my legs when I sit down, and it seems like the ones that don't do this are shorter.
I have long legs so finding shorts that don't show off all my goods is getting harder and harder to find. I like the Bermuda style, but then some of those are getting to be too long too. I tend to wear a lot of capris, because I can wear them to work, or I found some active shorts that are a decent length on me.
scout251 , Jr/Sr High I would imagine it would apply the most too, but I think it listed all schools.
So are phones currently allowed, and they're trying to ban them? Or are they trying to allow them during lunch hours and people are opposing it?
This year is the first that we have lightened up on cell phone rules (I am a high school teacher) and I support it. Kids need to learn the appropriate way to use their phones in social situations, and adults need to accept that cell phones are a much bigger part of their lives than they were for our generation. We can't pretend they don't exist. Until this year, phones were supposed to be off during school hours, no exceptions. This year, students can use their phones between classes, at lunch, and in the classroom with teacher permission. The only rule is no phones in the stairwell for safety reasons. But this isn't really enforced, we just try to remind them not to hurt themselves. I haven't heard of any phone-related problems this year.
The bigger problem with phones is usually cyber bullying. I can understand wanting to keep phones out if there is concern about that. But I also think that lunch is the worst part of the day for a kid who is bullied or just doesn't fit in, and having their phone can give them that escape.

Oh this brings me to another UO - i think it's dumb to worry about how white your (general your) legs are at the start of summer becuase yeah, you have caucasian skin and have been out of the sun for 6 months so of course they are pale. Everyone should embrace their natural skin tone

I linked them in the summer fashion thread. I can't watch the video at work.

JoBub, i agree that people need ot realize that cell phones are a part of our lives now and we need to accept that and find a way of working with it not against it. I'd be ok with high school kids having phones outside of class time. I'm not sure how i feel about middle school kids with phones though
JoBub, They are allowed now, except some classrooms don't and you just turn it in a basket at the start of the classroom. I think their reasoning is that the kids are so engrossed in their phones they don't socialize with other students as much. I see this out in public too, especially at restaurants.
Another school, the one SD attends, allows them in most classrooms to use as a search tool, calculator, etc. but they frown upon them if used other than for school related stuff.

I would love that confidence, just don't have it. Had it when I was younger and my skin was smoother. Now I like when my legs have a little color because it hides the lumps better and the start of spider veins.
That reminds me I like to use the jergens lotion that gives a slight tan. The lightest color isn't fake looking on me and helps cover my imperfections.

My friend's daughter's elementary school let them use Ipads during recess. Parents got the school to restrict them because no one was socializing. It also put pressure on parents to get their kids tablets who wouldn't/couldn't have (or didn't let them bring it to school).
I don't get the whole under boob trend happening. The kardashians were just photographed on vacation and kourtney was doing it. It just looks like her top is way too small.

yeah i would be a no on ipads at elementary school. I'm also not getting my kid a smart phone until he's in his teens.
My workplace is not that casual but you can dress up Bermuda shorts. I need thick dress pant material - are the old navy ones like that lrmrtn? It's 40% of the price listed right now too so I don't think $30 is bad for shorts I can wear to work or on the weekend.
I can't decide if this is cute or the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It seems the photographer is the mother of one if these people, so it's not like they paid a professional for this shoot, which would definitely push it over the stupid AF line for me.
Stupid.
And it seems like something my childless, dog owning friend would do.
She tries to compare her dogs to my AUTISTIC child.

This also. I always wore skirts and dresses in summer over shorts but being a mom of a young child had changed that in the last few years.
