Hey all!!!
I've been MIA for a while, but I've got some free time, Jayce just ate and he's sleeping, so I thought I would get on here. 😛
This is a novel... sorry! lol
So around midnight on 18 April I thought my water broke, so I woke up Jo and off to the hospital we went. Turns out it wasn't my water, but wasn't pee... likely just fluid buildup that decided to come out when I got out of bed to pee.. so we were monitored and although some contractions were recorded during the None Stress Test, they weren't anything horrible, just cramping. So back home we go around 3am.
19 April, we went back to the hospital for our weekly checkup with our Dr. She did a membrane sweep again to see if we could get things moving since that was our due date.
Nothing major happened, but contractions started around 1:30am on 20 April. They were pretty inconsistent, so I wasn't too worried. They were around 5-6min apart in the morning, but then they were 10-12min, so I didn't think it was time to go to the hospital. We stayed home till 8:30pm when they were getting pretty intense.
Get to the hospital, and I'm about 4cm dilated, we had a screamer in the room next to us, so I was pretty sure we were there too early since I wasn't screaming like her. Turns out, I was actually further ahead of her! Like this girl was screaming! I don't know how she wasn't passing out cause she sure wasn't breathing properly. lol
So I used laughing gas off and on from about 10:00pm on 20 April till 10:00am 21 April. That's when things started to slow down with labour and Jayce's heart rate was going a little wonky. He was all the way up to 180 at one point, and then it dropped to almost 120.. so they wanted to induce to get things moving again, and I ended up with an epidural as the contractions were going to get more intense and closer together and I knew the laughing gas wasn't going to do it for me anymore.
So happy I did as labour kicked in big time, but then labour turned into back labour and that epidural did very little after that.
I was pushing for a good 3 hours and he wasn't descending, apparently I was super swollen, and he was big, so they said they can try the vacuum, but if he doesn't come out, then it's a c section.
Needless to say, after all I had gone through, I didn't want a c section, I wanted him out vaginally and now!!
So, the end result was 20 min more of pushing and the vacuum to get him out. I ended up with two 2nd degree tears, an episiotomy and many small superficial tears down the birth canal.
Right now I feel like someone kicked me in the who ha 100 times... it's so bruised and sore. The swelling is going down, but it's still very uncomfortable.
Jayce is doing very good though!! He was breastfeeding like a champ less than an hour after he was born... I was still being stitched up and he was feeding! It was nuts.
We are supplementing him with some formula right now though because he lost more than 10% of his birthweight and wasn't pooping for over 48 hours. So I guess I wasn't giving him enough nutrients. But he's pooping again and is a much happier little boy. He was up crying much of two nights when we got home and I'm sure it was because he was still hungry an not that he was gassy like we thought. Poor thing!
So yeah... it was an interesting delivery. Didn't go the way I had hoped, or expected. Not like I really knew what was going to happen, or walked in with a plan... so I guess there is nothing to be disappointed about.
We have a healthy little boy, and although I'm a reconstructed mess down there, I'm happy as can be.
We are so blessed to finally have our rainbow. ☺️
I JUST LOVE OUR LITTLE MAN!!! ❤️
