We celebrated our anniversary mostly by buying stuff for the kids. On that note, anyone know of a good dinosaur pop-up book with easy text for a 3yo girl? A pink and purple princess dinosaur book would be even better...
No vents today although I am generally feeling low b/c of my inability to get a job that is a lateral move b/c I'm offsite. My brain says, "This has nothing to do with you." My heart says, "You're destined to die in this job having done nothing. Find a hobby."

Vent: I spent too much time in the sun this weekend and have a headache. Today's planned yardwork has been postponed.
Nonvent: I have the day off so I don't have to try to think through said headache and sent the big to school and the little has mastered adorable self-entertaining. Drinking coffee with no pants now and plan to clean house and join her for a nap at nap time.
Had an awesome weekend - DH and I got to go away overnight and see a show, and we came back with enough time to get our house in order and tons of food prepped for the week. Felt like we totally won last night when I went to bed!
Minus the ongoing couch battle. Remember my stupid living room layout with the couch next to the TV because DH insists on the ugly old recliner? It's back. In between all our productive work last night, I kept making DH rearrange the living room a half dozen times. I think I just have to release it and have a slightly awkward layout instead of a totally stupid layout. I bought myself a new area rug to help make it seem like a more purposeful space, so hopefully when that comes in tomorrow it looks good.

Widget123, I usually have the you-don't-do-anything conversation with MH *while* I'm doing the dishes, picking up, or doing the laundry and he's just standing there (for the millionth hour). It boggles the mind. I tell him he's not cute enough to just stand there. There's also a song called "Get Up" by Dorothy that I like to blast when he's napping, then I just pretend I like the song.
I was reminded on Friday why teaching is not the career for me. I helped in DD's class for an hour while they did centers. Trying to get 6-7 Kindergartners to do anything is a challenge (or at least for me).
I got a recommendation for a new pediatrician from friends yesterday. I think DS's chronic eczema is a toxicity issue, but most traditional pedis won't give you the time of day if you ask for holistic treatments. The pediatrician my friends recommended blends Western and holistic medicine, so now I just have to get DH on board with the change.
DS had a baseball game Saturday afternoon. It was freezing cold, so that always makes it seem longer. He did awesome, though. He was in outfield one half inning, and caught a pop up ball, which isn't too common for coach-pitch-age kids. He also made an awesome play at first base. While we were there, DD tried to open her flip-top water bottle with her teeth, and ended up losing a (baby) tooth in the process. So we had a talk about how teeth aren't tools.
Anti-vent: Several old friends came into town and stayed with me this weekend. It was great to catch up and have some adult time! I also found a cute pair of black leather booties that were on super clearance when we went shopping Saturday.
Vent: We are getting new counters installed on Friday. They won’t follow up with me until the day before with the time of the install which makes it difficult to plan for work.
So, I broke a glass this morning and had to dump my coffee because of possible shards of glass. I also managed to forget my phone, so hopefully I can meet up with DH to get it at some point.
Today is the one day of the week that we don't have anything at night. The rest of the week we have volleyball, football, Confirmation practice and Confirmation for DS. He has to wear a tie and is not amused.
Too busy this weekend, but I did get to sit out on a beautiful night Saturday and cookout with friends. It had been a long while since I had been able to do that. DH was working. I am about over his rotating shifts, because I am always the awkward loner. Everyone will ask, where is DH? He's been working this shift for 20 years, you know where he is . I have threatened to get a shirt to wear on the weekends he is working, "DH IS AT WORK" so I won't have to say it 20 times a night.
Took both kids fishing by myself Sunday, because apparently fishing has become the latest new thing among all of the kids around here, like they invented it our something. My entire contribution to the process was to sit on the dock and make sure no one fell in. DS was in charge of baiting and taking care of DD when she caught a fish - which she had to document on her ipod in a pic collage.
Spent the weekend packing, sorting, and organizing DD's room and closet. It looks pretty amazing. The play room is insane though.
Tonight I find out the results of the MRI from Friday. Which was NOT an "open" MRI. It was a "wide bore" MRI, which means 2 extra inches per side. The good news is it is faster so only took 20 minutes instead of 45. Any bets how many discs are herniated? DH says 2, I say 4 (because I am hoping when they say 2 or 3 it will feel like good news).
T minus 5 days until DD's swimming birthday party. One little boy told DD he'll come to the party if she wears a bikini. You have GOT to be kidding me! She's not even 8! Same kid who told her he was going to take pictures of her in the shower. I am all ready except for goody bags.
akafred, that little boy sounds like a creeper. His parents need to teach him appropriate behavior before he becomes the next Brock Turner.
Yeah. He is the "Stevie" of DD's generation. Stevie was a boy my DH and I knew who was always highly sexual even as a little kid. He taught me what a BJ was when I was 7 (words not deeds) and talked about sex a lot. His dad let us watch "Porkies" when I was there for a sleepover. He grew up to be a good guy as far as I know though.
Yikes akafred, on the "Stevie" kid. But we're also in B-day count down mode. There is paw patrol crap hidden allllll over the house, and a big box containing one TMNT 16" "big boy bike" hidden in the garage. H and I have Friday off together and we'll have to assemble the bike, pick up the cake, assemble goody bags, and then also drive out to the meat packer's and my bra store (unrelated to b-day prep, of course. and to each other) Basically a chore day.
We have had 3 yeses and one no for the party so far out of 24 invites, so I'm feeling pretty good. Even if no one else comes, 3 is enough for Bud to feel he had a real shindig, and one of those 3 is his bestie.
DS was warm (<100) and had slightly goopy/crusty eyes when I picked him up from daycare. These are his ear infection symptoms, so we settled in for an awesome weekend. He spent most of it with a fever ranging from 100-105.6, depending on when he had drugs most recently. Got him into see the pedi yesterday morning only to have her shocked that he had some fluid, but no ear infection. Based on his symptoms and how he was behaving in the office, she was convinced she'd see one. But nooooope. DH is home with him today.
Today's our anniversary. We went to dinner Saturday night at a pretentious French place. (Yes, we still kept our plans even with DS sick. FFMC? It was 3 hours, he slept most of it) It was entirely not my style, but it made DH happy. The next day, we both had gross tummies in the morning. DH's response? It's a sign of good food. No. No it's not.
I'm hoping that DS's fever breaks so that I don't have to take off tomorrow with him.
Speaking of back problems.. Anyone here an expert?
My back has been killing me. Lower left hand side. It particularly hurts when I do anything that rounds the back - bending from the waist, attempting to shave my right leg, sitting, etc. Motrin, ice, and a heating pad have been no help at all.
How low k3am ? Could it be the piriformis, or is it higher? There are some good stretches for that, but my favorite is this one
No one even notices me doing this at my desk... I had major problems with that muscle after my miscarriage, and it through my back and hips out of whack too. I'm mostly ok now, but every now and then I have to start the stretches again. Save

k3am, my tummy has a hard time with foods that are really creamy, buttery, and garlicky. I am no French food connoisseur, but it seems like those are common preparations of that kind of food. And sorry to hear about your DS, hope the fever breaks soon!
DS's party was this weekend. And he turned 3 yesterday! I can't believe my baby is 3! His party was a success. We got these great candles that were on long skewers. He blew them out three times, and the third time he just reached out and pulled out each skewer, calmly blew out the candle, and put it back in the cake. It was hilarious.
Minor vent: MIL always gets gifts that are too old or too young and then is disappointed they don't work or aren't well-received. She got DS a very cool big wheel. But his legs are about 3 inches too short to pedal it. DD loves it. It's just right for a 4 year old. But seriously, I wish she would ASK. I would have told her to wait until next year for that.
We have been having a ton of issues with DD1's behavior. She is 7 and easily spins out of control. She's defiant, rude, and mean to her little sister (who can be annoying, but us generally very sweet). We are trying to take a hard line, and it's exhausting.
So we spent much of the weekend dealing with meltdowns, bickering kids, and determining appropriate punishments for, say, kicking your little sister, 1/2 your size, so hard that she left a boot print.
I'm tired and I'm sad. This is a big driver behind my quitting my job, but I'm dreading dealing with this full time.
We had a good low key weekend. DD's t-ball game was quick and they improved from last week. The weather was nice all weekend and we did a ton of yard work. DD is driving me crazy everything is a debate and if it doesn't come out to her liking she cries and tantrums. I do not like this new behavior at all and she is loosing privileges like crazy as consequences.
k3am, have you been carrying the kids on your hip more than normal? This could be causing your muscles and low back to be extra sore. All I can suggest is lots of stretches and lots of ice.
@akafred - I appreciate it, but in this case, we totally caused it. We spoiled our kids because we were to tired and stressed out to say no. And now they behave like Veruca Salt. It's going to be difficult to correct.
tas1883 , no more than usual, but to an excessive amount, especially with this latest round of illness. I've noticed it bothering me when holding him, but it didn't occur to me as a potential cause since he's a velcro baby.
ETA: That made no sense. I have been carrying him a lot. But I'm ALWAYS carrying him a whole lot, since I'm basically his favorite person on the planet, and nothing else makes him happy.

Got back from Disney on Saturday. It was fun but it was the hardest trip we've taken there in a long time. It was so much harder with two now that DD is 3 and has her own opinions but no impulse control. I'm telling myself that the reason she's harder than DS was at her age is that she has someone to fight with. Although that wasn't at play when we actually had to call 911 when she fell off the bed and hit her head on the bed side table.
Although, FYI, if you ever have a medical emergency while on property at WDW, the EMTS and ambulances are on site and will come to you at no charge, AND if needed, it also takes you to Celebration hospital at no charge.
We didn't end up going to the hospital but we did the rest.
Oh and if you have to do all that, you might get a bunch of extra fast passes.
She's doing really well. She had a cut right through her eyebrow that was bleeding a lot and I was so scared she would need stitches but the EMT was confident it wasn't deep enough. Also my nurse friend that was gracious enough to look at pictures and talk to me about it over the phone agreed.
When DS had a fall at DC and cut just below his eyebrow he ended up with stitches (and a railroad track scar) so after having gone through that I was really relieved it wasn't as bad as it looked.
ETA: Also, even though she was totally balling her eyes out and screaming, when the EMT picked her up she got really quiet and didn't even flinch when he was pulling on the cut. And then when he put her back on the bed she tried to stand up and walk around and we all freaked out that she was going to fall again. She's going to drive me into an early grave.
