The other one I couldn't thinking was does your child say two or three words that represent different ideas together such as "see dog" "mommy come home" or "kitty gone"
And then there is, does your child go into another room to find a familiar toy or object.

Is that not the same as a sentence? Any phrase he can say would be classified as a sentence IMO.

I don't know, they are listed separately on the paper. I would imagine. I swear once she said hi dada but has never done it again. I just feel like DD1 had more of this at this age and I'm failing DD2 or something.
I'll look again later but I know some were are they using two word sentences, are they pointing without assistance when you ask to find certain objects, pointing to show you what they want, and there was one that I was like nope never saw that.
We just did our 18m appt, our pediatrician said we should expect the behaviors you mentioned soon. DD is doing most of it, DS is doing almost none of it but she wasn't concerned at all

Umm... Those are pretty advanced sentences. Our pediatrician considers W "advanced" verbally and the most complex phrase she puts together is "uh oh hop hop" when she throws her bunny out of her crib.

younglove316, you're not failing. All kids are different. DD1 was saying 3 word sentences by age 1. DD2 said cat at about 8 months, then only that forever. Now she's got words but very few she says regularly or without prompting. She has better comprehension though, better balance and coordination, she's not all behind where her sister was.
I keep waiting for the word explosion, I'm sure it's coming. I read somewhere that 2nd children often walk sooner and talk later. The thought is that they want to keep up with their siblings but their siblings often talk for them so they get by without talking longer. I think DD2 would have walked sooner if she wasn't so damn stubborn.

Emma just said "dada, work" asking if daddy was at work. And then today she said "baby stuck" when she was trying to get her doll from the chair and pull it thru the rails.

Thanks ladies. I really don't know why I'm taking this so personally but I just keep reminding myself that a year from now, if she's anything like big sister, she won't stop the talking and I'll be wondering why I rushed it haha

This is what I told myself when DD2 wouldn't say Mama. DD1 has that covered ten bagillion times a day. Now she says it and it's literally like "MAAAAAAM". In the most grating tone....so precious.

Yes! Fwiw, Allie had 6 words/signs at 18 months. Her ped wasn't concerned. Those forms are kind of absurd, and I feel like they only stress parents out. There's such a wide range of normal at this age. Hugs.

I think this is why my pediatrician doesn't use the forms. She asks me what "new tricks" they have and then more pointed questions if I don't mention something. I love that we talk and have a relationship instead of her just reading through the boxes I checked.
