It's teacher appreciation/spirit week at day care, which means I sent my kid to school like this:
He seemed pleased with my outfit choice. I realized I'm probably never going to be that mom that loves spirit days because now I'm going to have to change him again before we go out to dinner tonight. But, I don't have to cook and the sun is finally shining after what feels like forever of dreary, cloudy days so I'm thinking it's going to be a good day!
As per Joolschweets request-my post hair appointment pic! (Oh let's face it, I probably would have been an AW anyway)
Today is my Q&A with the high school Psych class about my personal experience with the NICU and physical and mental health surrounding it. I'm at the point where I'm less nervous and more excited! DD is going to join the preschool class today so hopefully that goes well.
DS has ball tonight, and then I have some pre-ladies night work to get done with another committee member. Going to be a long day!
tiffbot I love the hair! You always look so good! Haha.
DH had to leave for work early this morning so obviously the kids both woke up with him and I was forced to get up too. Send coffee. On the plus side, we have beautiful weather here finally and we've been taking full advantage of outside time. If only our yard was landscaped.
ETA: I am not a fan of spirit days either. I hate dressing up out of the norm, it gives me anxiety and makes me self-conscious. Kids always enjoy it though, if not for themselves, when their teachers do it, so I always play along.
Today is "Wacky Wednesday." I basically buy grey pants and jeans for DS, so that on a regular basis we have minimal problems coming up with reasonable, coordinating outfits. The striped pants were one thing he had in his closet that I could make clash, so I ran with the stripes theme. How the hell else do you do "wacky" without clashing? Basically every other girl that was there when I dropped him off just had on those super fluffy tutu things and their moms did weird ponytails. The one other little boy that was there had mis-matched socks pulled over his pants. I think I'm projecting some of the stress I felt about having to come up with outfits for myself when I was in school onto my kid, because I'm like you, I'd rather just wear normal clothing I'm comfortable in. His teachers were dressed up too though, which I think was fun. His one teacher was wearing a sparkly St. Patrick's Day headband with the clovers bobbing around, and DS was thoroughly mesmerized by it.
OMG budders, and jillywilly, I swear my daycare has a spirit day twice a week. Between that and all of my school dress up days it's a full time job. The worst was when daycare did Mickey Mouse Day...my kid literally had nothing Mickey Mouse! Then my mom saw a full on mickey costume for $2 on clearance so we ended up looking like we took it super seriously lol.
tiffbot, your hair looks gorgeous! I hope you have a blast speaking today!
Daycare goes big with teacher appreciation week. Every day we are supposed to bring a different themed gift for the teachers. Yesterday was hand sanitizer and lotion day. Today is sweet treats and caffeine day. Last year I was pretty amused by it, don't get me wrong I really appreciate the teachers but some of the themes I thought were a little overkill. This year I am more used to how the PTA has been running things so I'm just rolling with it.
I think I mentioned before that we got a (free through H's aunt) hotel room Sunday-Friday this week since we're supposed to be having our floors refinished. They sanded last week but I guess the product isn't in until today so they didn't work Monday or Tuesday and we haven't needed to stay at the hotel. It has been super hot though so we've taken advantage of the hotel pool and their free "social hour" drinks and food. Last night we decided to have a girls' night at the hotel; my mom, G, and I stayed. Holy crap my mom snores loudly, plus Gianna was tossing and turning and talking in her sleep so my fitbit tells me that I only got 4 hours 33 minutes of sleep. It was rough getting up, but I'm surprised that I'm not dying today!

standard Wednesday around here. It's gorgeous outside so it's making my home visits suck less👍🏻 I just got DD's invitations in the mail yesterday so I'm planning to address them on my lunch:)

This is rubbing me slightly wrong...does your daycare have a PTA? Is that where this is coming from?
It seems messed up that it would be suggested by the daycare that you bring in specific gifts.
I'm also not sure what our daycare teachers would do with 8 bottles of hand sanitizer. Seems like overkill?
Yes our daycare has a PTA with regular meetings (that we don't care enough to attend). The people who run it are really intense and I am convinced they are the source of a lot of rules that I don't like, but most of their stuff I just kind of shrug my shoulders at at this point. At least I know their intentions are good. I bought the themed gifts for 4/5 days this week which is good enough for me.
My class went well, I went and checked on L when I was done but she was happy so I just left her in preschool, did a couple errands by myself then found some friends who were out walking also waiting for preschool to end. When I went back to the school for pickup L was in the front of the line wearing her backpack just chilling patiently like she's done it all year with the older kids! It looked SO cute!
So we played at the playground for a bit with some friends, then we walked down to the grocery store for the first community BBQ of the year (yessss love this time of year and so happy it's turned into a summer like week!) and ended up not coming home till recently. Such a great morning!
We don't have teacher appreciation week here. The craziest we get is the older kids have pajama day.
Add me to the list too jillywilly. Cat and Jack FTW.
We had a "week of the young child" last week at DS's school. One day was teacher appreciation day and we could donate money to a gift if we wanted. I sent $30 ($10 for each teacher) and then there was a note board set up that parents can write a little note of appreciation. All the teachers wore super hero wrist bands to signify how important their job is. The next day was parent appreciation day and they had muffins and coffee/tea available to the parents. All in all I think our center does a good job of staying even keeled in that department.

Any interesting stories from your Q&A session?
That's great to hear she had a good time at preschool! DS2 (I realize I'm still calling him LO, I should probably move on now) starts at daycare in September. Right now he loves being at DS's center and playing but when he goes for real he will have to be downstairs in the toddler room. I'm a little nervous on how that will be but he's got a few months of growing up until then.
No, nothing really veggiemo! It was very laid back, I didn't write anything down and they just asked questions as I went along and just talked. I just kind of kept talking, whatever came to mind I'd add and go that way and just kind of let the conversation go as it may!
We talked about a fun fact today at lunch. Apparently, teacher appreciation week is supposed to be the first full week of May (next week) but some places interpreted that as the first full school week (this week). Chipotle had teacher appreciation yesterday and my school and A's daycare is next week. Weird.
Also, bonus interview tip: Don't say "I'm fucking babbling, aren't I" when interviewing to be a high school teacher.

Charlotte has flipped herself out of her crib 6 times tonight😩 We finally ended up taking her mattress out of her crib and putting it on the floor. No idea how the rest of the night is going to go. Toddler bed shopping had been added to the weekend to-do list😳

Welp BH has a double ear infection. No fever, no pulling the ear, no complaining of pain... except his scraped knee, which was not the problem. This is the child who is always going to keep me on my toes.

Wow mrsmonogrammed, that's a rough night! I hope you all got some sleep. I'm sure you'll have fun toddler bed shopping and decorating though, on the bright side? Maybe?

Wow! Had she gotten out before or just figured it out tonight? Hope you guys got some sleep!
She's done it one time before when I put her down for a nap, but I think it was a fluke because she stepped on the bumper to get over. I took that out and we were fine until last night! We did ok sleeping, she woke up 3 times and had to be put back in bed...which is actually less times than I expected!

Ha, yes the decorating will be fun! I've already got an idea of bed frame and sheets, I just need to order everything. Much toddler proofing to be done in her room though🙈
We transitioned C from his crib to a full size mattress on the floor. We did this a week and a half ago, and he has been doing great! The first night he actually slept in his play castle (tent in reading area of his room.) and he's only "fallen out of bed" once. We have had no issues with him playing instead of sleeping and he even stays in his bed until I get him from his room. It might not be as scary as you think. (And they may be more ready than you think.) C wasn't one to climb out of his crib. I just didn't want to buy a second crib when we already have an extra bed that's not being used. And I wanted to transition him before his baby sister came along.
