We just booked a trip to San Diego for July. Trying to decide between Sea World or San Diego Zoo. Which one do you think is best for the family-ranging from the toddler to the grandfather? Any tips or travel tricks you can share? Thanks
The San Diego Zoo has some SERIOUS hills - so if anyone in the family (like grandfather) has any mobility issues, it could be challenging. It was super cool though and felt very theme parky. And they have koalas and koalas are cool.
Have not been to Sea World but from what was in the press after Blackfish came out, I would have reservations about going and would want to personally investigate more than what I recall about the situation before I would feel comfortable going.
We stayed in Coronado when we were in San Diego and it was amazing. Highly recommend going over and seeing the Hotel Del Coronado (where we did not stay, but did have a slamming - and free, thanks to a lovely lady sharing her vouchers from a conference with us - brunch).

I have been to that hotel I think. With the beach? There's dude named Jose who makes a chocolate martini that will make you take your panties off! Can't take the parents and kid dor that tho

It's the giant old Victorian hotel on the beach. So pretty. I don't remember boozing much there, but I remember good brunch and a good ice cream shop. Both toddler and parent approved.
+1 to the zoo having some ridiculous hills. There is an escalator type thing that may help. I would still probably choose the zoo over Sea World though, I've been and wasn't impressed.
I would also check out Seaport Village and Balboa Park. There's a ton to do esp. at Balboa.
Also, Legoland.
+1000 to all this, and because SeaWorld is the devil.

+1 to the hotel Del, but it's a little pricey.
We're actually taking Bill to the wild animal safari park (part of the San Diego zoo) for his bday... supposedly it's supposed to be pretty great and you get to be in a cool safari truck the whole time so no worrying about hills. We're going the first week of July, so I'll let you know if it's actually cool or not.
I haven't been to the zoo in about a million years but I don't remember it being that hilly? They do have some sort of tram thing too.
