Yep, that bathroom was much grosser than I expected. No one tried to use mine except my husband, and he saw it all anyway. That's something that never would have occurred to me before having a baby.
starsandshamrocks123, both of my babies cluster fed the first/second night, depending on what time of day they were born, to try to get my milk to come in, and then they slept much better the nights after that. I hope that's the case for you!
DD was born in the late afternoon and slept decently on night one, but was up all night the next night, screaming whenever she wasn't attached to my boob, even though nothing was coming out. DS was born at 9 am and he cluster fed the first night, and then slept better the next one. I hope you get more sleep tonight!
starsandshamrocks123 are you still at the hospital? If so, consider using the nursery if they have one. I did this time around, and it got me a couple 2 hour chunks of sleep over night. The nurses will bring baby in to you to feed when she shows hunger signs.
Also I think the first 5 nights of sleep just suck in general. Hugs

Mine sleeps ok, but nursing is still so, so painful. I'm beginning to dread it each time. I have definitely caved on the pacifier because I just can't keep him on the boob longer than he needs for nourishment.
Me: 29 DH: 35 NTNP since May 2013 charting since June 2014 dx: Graves disease (radioactive iodine), Crohns disease (abdominal surgeries) MMC October 2015 (9 weeks) Severe MFI diagnosis July 2015
Thinking of you @starsandshamrocks, sleeping in the hospital sucks at the best of times, hoping when you get home and cozy you'll have a better sleeper

applemuffins, have you asked his pediatrician to check for a possible tongue tie? When I had my second baby, I thought it was painful just because I hadn't nursed in awhile, but it turned out that he had a tongue tie, and once that was snipped (he didn't even cry), it was WAY more comfortable.
Also, I couldn't have survived without pacifiers - don't feel bad about that!
For me with DD1, breastfeeding was painful for about the first three months, but only during the initial latch. Once she got going, I was fine. I second the hydrogel pads and lanolin ointment. And there should be colostrum coming out before the milk comes in. It's not much, but it's what the baby needs right now.
applemuffins I hope the pain subsides soon. I feel like the pain is just now going away, and babes are 2 weeks now. I've had a nipple laceration which is the main issue. Also i have to relearn how to position and latch a newborn, totally forgot the basics and small details that can make or break a comfortable nursing session. Have you checked out kellymom or any YouTube videos on getting a deep latch?

sdlaura I hope so! It's been a while since I've gone 30+ hours on no sleep. She just wanted to be held. I can't blame her, I'm comfy! I'm thinking tonight will be better. I'm also terrible without coffee, which I'm trying to avoid right now
lindsay it's 100% baby friendly so no nursery option unless it's absolutely necessary. Not the end of the world but I hate not having the option. I'm lucky to have DH here even though I wanted to fight him at 4am😡

DD would not sleep unless I held her. It was rough. So far this little guy is much easier in that respect. I joked with DH that I was able to eat dinner without holding him or putting him in a carrier, so he already has DD beat in terms of ease!
No tongue or lip tie. He was checked by multiple people. No thrush. Latch looks good. I don't know. I think it is just a combination of his small mouth and my flat nipples :/ online searching tells me it's called the "60 second sizzle" although sizzle doesn't do it justice. 60 seconds of pain by 1000 swords maybe. He is transferring milk well and has surpassed his birth weight at 9 days, so I'll just have to continue toughing it out and hope it gets better sooner rather than later.
