Degree: civil engineering with emphasis on environmental engineering
I'm on my third run at a career. My first life was in commercial real estate sales. My second life was in commercial real estate development. I was the project manager for several high rises and shopping centers. I truly enjoyed doing it, but the economy led to my layoff. So, I went back to college for engineering.
My job right out of engineering school resulted in a layoff as well. I then got the BFP! I now stay home with DS2.
Hobbies: I'm completely addicted to Candy Crush and The Simpsons Game. I'm also the expert finder of lost things around the house.

am i the last one?
Degree in Biotechnology, but I should have been straight Biology, or even just something else entirely.
First job out of school was as a lab tech at a local university studying bacteria in insects. I got fired from this job and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Second job was just a few months later at my alma mater, working as a lab resource coordinator for biology dept. I loved it. I supervised amazing student employees, supported our faculty needs, purchased thousands of dollars of lab supplies and equipment for the dept and haggled with vendors...I did everything, and I was really good at it and getting better every year. Then we got a new boss and she promoted me to do other, less exciting stuff and then she left and I regretted changing roles. The saving grace of the past year was my new boss, who was the boss who originally hired me, and was also my undergraduate research advisor. He is a pretty cool boss with a good sense of humor. When I was sick in the first trimester of pregnancy he and the assoc head of our dept would go with me in search of snacks to fend off nausea. He was very supportive of my maternity leave plans, too.
My fourth job is in the same college, but now I'm a part time scheduling officer for our college. It's kind of a promotion...but just super focused on one thing so I have to get used to that. I like it so far, and I love being with the same people I've known for years. Everyone I see is happy to see me again, and I was specifically sought out to take this role, and that makes me feel really good. I never want to work outside of academia, ever. I love students, faculty (even the difficult ones), and my co-workers are the coolest and most supportive people I know.
If i went back to school I would do Accounting. I enjoy it and it pays well where I am.
mamarazziof3 are they hard to care for? And do they need a ton of space?
No, super easy from what I have seen. They don't need a ton of space either. Ours have a coop with an inside part for their nests, and then an outside part fenced in (you have to make sure predators can't get in to eat them) so they can go outside and walk around when needed. They need to be fed and watered, clean the coop on occasion (not sure about how often for that), and collect eggs. Ours lay about one a day. We have Rhode Island Reds, Silver-laced wyandottes, and one other kind... The amount of space will depend on how many you have. My husband's boss had only 4, so he didn't need much space at all. We have 10, so it takes up a lot more room.

Chickens only require about 2 sq ft each in the coop as long as they have outdoor space too. We lived in town and had an 8x12 coop for 20 birds. You can take care of them in 5 minutes a day, but the coop should be cleaned several times a year. We spend a lot of time with our chickens, but they really are a small commitment.
When we are gone, it is really easy to find people to check on them if you let them have any eggs laid in that time. The eggs are so good!
britab, can you recommend any basic texts on second language acquisition? I took a class on teaching French in college but I was a bad student in that class and didn't do most of the reading. Of course now I'm interested in it...

I'm a lawyer. Small practice.
I used to dance, sing, & read. Now I go online, listen to npr, watch movies, play scrabble, drink wine . Not sure of any of those count as hobbies. Def not crafty. Anything I make turns out awful.
I know, right?! Me, too! Working out is like the absolute last thing on my list of things I enjoy.
DH suggested we spend more family time together via me joining his gym to go workout with him while DS does their daycare.. l o l .. think i'll sit right here on the couch..
Working out sucks until you find what you enjoy. For me it was a structure running group with girlfriends (I don't like running by myself). Or hip hop dance class with a friend, or hot yoga with a friend. Exercise is like a penciled in "girl time" date for me. Or it was. Back when I had time for girl time or exercise.
I was a kindergarten teacher for 3 years and before that I was a title one para. I taught reading to those students who fell below level. I love crafts but mostly use tutorials or self teach so might not be the best person for advice on that stuff.
I have a degree in engineering and currently work in IT in budgeting and portfolio management.
My hobbies include knitting, crocheting, cooking/baking, and gardening. I love DIY projects.
My friend and I wanted to start a small business to sell our creations but life got in the way.
I love making toys with crochet and knitting. I have so many ideas and not nearly enough time.
My dream is actually to be a SAHM part time and do my own business.
My DH is an amazing painter. He specializes in water color, but not how you are used to seeing it. His paintings are very detailed and take him 6 months to complete. He could easily sell his work but gets so attached after spending so much time on them.
We also love cooking, especially Italian from scratch. DH makes the BEST sweet potato gnocchi, pan fried in Brown sugar and butter in a traditional Italian sweet and sour sauce.
Do you have any pictures of your h's paintings you can share? I'd love to see his work.
I actually don't. I should get some though. He does portraits of legends. The detail is amazing.
