Today my kid said "damn it!" multiple times, and I would love for some advice on that. Current tactic is to stop what we are doing, say that that is a bad word that hurts my feelings, and to offer options/think of other things we can say instead. Yeah, that's not really catching on yet. I am going to keep reiterating those things and hope that this passes, but I am scared.
We are really going to start watching our mouths, but we think he has also picked it up maybe from listening to the radio. Feeling like we have to make major life changes to curb this. Please tell me it is a phase!

Today is our anniversary. We planned a date night to celebrate on Friday but it didn't work out because of everyone being sick. I planned a nice dinner for tonight (a roast with homemade rolls and all the fixins) and DH knew that because he read my meal plan yesterday. As I was putting the food on the table he called and told me not to eat anything because he wanted to pick up food from a nice restaurant for he and I to eat. I said no, I'm starving and I made a nice dinner and I'm not waiting a couple more hours to eat/not eating that in front of Grandpa and everyone else. I told him we should just eat what I made and he could bring in dessert or something. Nope, he's going to get the fancy dinner for himself anyway and sounds so grouchy about it. We can go eat fancy food some other time!
I had a pretty rough day. P has decided to go ahead and be a threenager. Even though she promised me she wouldn't. And I had to take both kids to the grocery store, which was a 2 hour nightmare. It was so bad. By the time I made it to the checkout line, I placed each kid in front of the little impulse buy refrigerator. I warned them that if they acted up again, I would take out anything that was for them in the basket and throw it away. And I was damned serious.
After I checked out, the woman behind me (who didn't witness the threats) told me that I had wonderful children who listened really well.
Oh. And briarrose we tell our kids that %***€ is a grownup word. And when they are a grownup, they can choose whether or not they want to say those words. But until then, it is only for grown ups.
It has worked so far for us. Making it less of a big deal makes it less exciting for my kids.

I don't like our society's approach to swear words so when M recently said "damn it" I told her that there are certain words that certain people don't like to hear. If she said "damn it" in front of her teachers she would get in trouble. I'm not offended by that word, so she won't get in trouble with me, but most people don't want to hear it and will get upset. And I told her that I would remind her of that every time she said it. It quickly lost its allure for her and seems to be working for now.

I had a good day today. I was productive and baby was happy all day. He's going through a weird nap phase, though. His morning nap has stretched to 2 hours 15 minutes and then it's hard to get him to sleep in the afternoon. We've tried a couple days to push the nap later and have only one nap, but it's hard for him to make it to bedtime that way... Maybe I need to wake him up early from his morning nap?

This is what we do too. I also give her a replacement, so whenever she would say damnit I would tell her not to say that, it's a grown up word, say oh snap instead. It's worked really well, except for one minor setback when she started telling everyone "daddy says oh damnit but I say oh snap" (we are around a lot of very conservative people who would be horrified by this) haha eventually we got her to stop telling people daddy says oh damnit. It was kind of funny though.
Nugget is either sick or teething because she was a mess last night! She's all snotty and had a full on meltdown in Walmart yesterday evening because I wouldn't open the box of frozen waffles to give her one. Like, screaming on the floor in the aisle, sobbing. I later caved and opened a box of granola bars to save everyone's ears and my sanity. She got home and was still a mess and alternated between acting normal and screaming until bedtime (when she got some Motrin). Then she was up every 1-2 hours and would cry for a few minutes and then fall back asleep. Woke up screaming when her Motrin wore off and I gave her more and she stayed asleep finally. I really hope this is not another ear infection.
Oh, and my sister and her husband and my one year old niece are flying in tonight and staying for a week and so we've been cleaning and organizing and babyproofing. My niece is still crawling and puts everything in her mouth, so we have to step up the babyproofing. I'm excited to see them, but the lead-up to having guests is stressful and having a sick/teething kid is not helping my stress level. Oh, and work is nuts because I got half of someone else's job dumped on me when she got fired last week. Yaaaaaay.
Can you just build the walls but wait to put it together in the yard?!
Honestly- putting those walls on was super easy and I could take them off. So maybe I should hold off on the roof until that is figured out.
Current deal is shelving lol.
When we bought the used playhouse, we separated the roof from the walls and transported it in two pieces. The roofless structure was really not too bad for my dad and I to carry. And if yours is similar, the roof attaches easily to 4 connector blocks so you can assemble separately and plop it on top once outside
