I have questions about his business model. Like, does he just bike around neighborhoods looking for families outside? Do people actually pay him? Is he available for parties? Does he take Amex? Does he think approaching with hands in pockets is charming?

All of this! He must make some money pulling this stunt. So weird. I'm way more cautious of people too these days, especially when DD is around.
How do you test a 1 year old for food allergies? We are taking DS2 off of his antibiotics for a week to see if he stops vomiting, but if that doesn't help I'm leaning towards a food allergy.

Clara was 2 1/2 when we had hers done. She had the test done where they prick her back with small needles. It can also be done with blood tests. We did the needle test in an allergists office because it's more accurate

Did you need a referral from a pediatrician? Our pedi hasn't been the most helpful.

No. We did bring it up at her well appointment to see what her pedi said and she agreed that sounds like she has food allergies and we should go see allergist to be tested. We asked for some names of some she recommended and then just called over to them without any paperwork.
Do you know what food you are thinking he is allergic to scotty138?
I have no idea. He vomits almost every day, is super fussy, and recently has been refusing food. He is on antibiotics which give him reflux. He basically never outgrew colic and sometimes wakes up MOTN and is inconsolable until he cries to sleep in my arms. I would like to rule out an allergy just in case it could help him. The pedi isn't concerned because he is still gaining weight.

Could be milk, could be the antibiotics. I think that is a smart decision on your part. Also, Clara was still gaining weight but has food allergies? 🤔

We're going to have DD2tested at the beginning of July. They're going to do a skin test. Previously we just went to tje pedi and did a blood test.

Testing 1 year old isn't extremely accurate. They may just do a blood panel.
At around a year Jakob had plus the pokes in the back. The needles are loaded with the allergens. The needles kinda look like a duplo block. Its quick.
After the poke you'll wait 20 minutes then they will measure each dot. Then they'll give them benadryl.
If the dots are a 1 or 2 it may be considered a sensitivity. A 3 or 4 is an allergic reaction.
If allergies present you'll go home that day with a plan.

That's all I can think of right now.
This is exactly what we did with Clara. They give a needle of antihistamine to measure it against the allergy ones. It was so sad to see the peanut one on her back. (It was half her back)

I have these questions, too, though I hope I don't see him again soon.
There is a big difference between being on a street asking for money or doing card tricks for money than coming into my driveway where I'm with my kids. I love living in the city and haven't experienced this before. We live on a busy street near a very popular big city park. Foot traffic is high, but most just KOKO. That said, we are in the grips of a housing crisis and a heroin epidemic. Things are a changin'!
scout251 That's what brings me to tears every day. He has moments where he is smiley and happy, but he has been sick his entire life. They just keep telling us some babies are fussier than others and it is probably caused by the antibiotics. I'm advocating for him the best I can, but no one seems to get it. Next week we finally get to put together a plan to get him the surgery he needs and get him off antibiotics.

scotty138 I may be wrong but I think food issues that cause puking and other GI distress are (at least mostly) technically intolerances and may well not show up on traditional allergy. There is a huge range in how "real" doctors seem to consider them to be. And many docs know very little about food intolerances - probably partly because there's no expensive drugs to treat them so no pharma reps "educating" docs on sales visits. Well and really there's not a lot a doctor can even do to help with food intolerances. Elimination diets are the main way to figure out. Pain in the ass but at least almost free (except for maybe having to buy more expensive food) and don't need doc to refer. Or some providers do some urine and blood testing for intolerances/improper digestion of foods but I think mostly fanceh naturopath ones and it'd be hard to get insurance to pay. My step cousin has had a lot of that done for both her and her kid (and found results to be helpful) but she seems to have $$$ to spare.
Did you nurse or do formula? Ever go off dairy while you were nursing to see if that helped colic or try different formulas if you FF? Notice any changes when starting solid food? Did DS2 have slimy green mucousy poop like what people sometimes say can be indication of intolerance to milk and soy protein?
Is or has he been on any probiotics with the antibiotics?
Is there some sort of support/discussion group for parents of kids with your boy's kidney problem that might have guidance on managing side effects of antibiotics? Or you've probably already done anything they recommend if so ...
Just trying to think of anything that could be helpful or give clues.
I'm really sorry you are having to deal with this. It's so hard to see our kiddos not feeling well and not be able to fix it! And the kidney stuff by itself is really more than enough already - you guys don't need other issues!
springbeduk He is still breastfed 2-4 times a day because the Drs want him to get the probiotics through breast milk. I am going to put him on a probiotic this week while he is off antibiotics in hopes of letting his stomach recover a bit.
I have thought about doing an elimination diet. I don't really know where to start. I guess dairy would be a good starting point, but we have celiacs in our family as well so I'm concerned about gluten. Do I need to worry about soy? Idk, I'm barely making it through the days right now so a special diet without knowing if it is helping sounds exhausting.
I wanted his stomach scoped while he is under for his test next week, but they didn't think it was necessary. If it is damaged from the antibiotics I would like to know so we can deal with it ASAP.

scotty138 I have zero input on any of the issues, but I just wanted to say how awesome you are for advocating for him and for dealing with all of this for all this time. You're a great mom and your boys are so lucky to have you. ❤️

+1 scotty138. I really hope you can figure out DS2's issues as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Since we are talking about sick kids, I had my parents take DS2 to the pedi today to see if he has an EI because he has been Mr. Crankypants since he got a cold last week. Well, he has fluid in his ears which can cause discomfort but no EI. So basically he is just a jerk.

Soy is linked with a dairy allergy something like 50% of the time. In your shoes I'd probably try to get the diet as simple as possible to eliminate the major allergens. The keys to elimination are to focus on the things you can eat and on whole food or the outer aisles of the grocery store. If you're not eliminating all grains, there are lots of gluten free alternatives. With most allergens it takes a couple weeks to get them totally out of your system, but you'd probably see a difference within a month if it's helping. You could meal plan a couple weeks to get an idea of the types of things you can incorporate and maybe you'll find it not as restrictive as you think.
+1 you're doing a great job caring for your boys and I'm sorry it's been so hard.
scotty138, I'm so sorry that your boy is going through this and it must be so hard to watch. Like everyone else said, I think you are going an awesome job advocating for your boy. I have no advice but I hope you get things figured out soon.
microworm, if it makes you feel better, I had fluid in my ears from my cold a couple of weeks ago and I was a jerk too.
Your poor DS2 just seems to have had such a rough go of it and wish it could be helped for both of you.
I would try eliminating dairy and see if that helps at all. I would think even for a shorter period like a week or two could give you an indication if that is the issue.

Commiseration. I think ds started his next leap early because I can not imagine he'll get more fussy and clingy than he already is. His voice is all raspy too, so probably teething as well. Sleep has been crappy too, but he clapped for me when I went to get him early this morning so it was hard to stay mad.
Weather was looking pretty good today so we took off to the reptile/fish store for our free "zoo" experience since Peyton loves looking at the animals. She loved the big shark they have in the tank and kept talking to it "Hi sharkie, come here 😀"
Then went down to waterfront park at the other end of the city and took a trolley tour of the downtown waterfront. I didn't even know they had that until my friend told me about it last night.
Now home and eating apple cinnamon flan from my mom and pineapple. I should go outside but just feel like chilling and need to dye my hair today.

We doubled down last night on the crappy toddler bedtime shenanigans. We had had enough of the 2 hour bedtime routines. L
We put baby in the pack n play in the living room and did bed time with just ds in the bedroom. He went right to sleep! I'm not sure if it was because he was super tired or the baby being out of the room. We moved baby back in to crib when we went to bed. We're going to do that same thing again for the next several nights to get him back to a good bedtime routine and then put the baby back in.

My little guy looooves to clap and say "yay." So whenever he is being a jerk I do that and he copies me. It makes me feel a little better that he isn't a complete monster. But +1 to clingy and fussy. I cannot put him down and heaven forbid I leave the room. He isn't interested in playing with toys for more than 5 sec before he moves on to something he can't play with. Redirection doesn't help because he isn't interested in toys or things that he CAN play with safety!
The support from you ladies means more to me than you will ever know. It's so much better than the "Don't have a 3rd if you can't handle 2" that I got from my brother. It's been a rough year.
