Holy shit. I knew DC costs were more expensive in Ohio and your DC is top notch, but OMG. Like that is less than $100 away from what I will pay for M+newborn/week. You could split a nannyshare @ $15/hr *50hrs/wk (39k/yr) and still save money. I have no idea if that's reasonable salary for a nanny share or not, but I would probably do it for that much since I wouldn't have to pay for daycare lol.
I have to say tho on the infant care, I don't think what we are getting is any better than somewhere else. So the price of infant care just pisses me off. I really have nothing to compare to on infant care bc N didn't start until 1 yo. But we don't get diapers, wipes food nothing. We have to bring everything and honesty I feel like the infant room itself is just ok and the ratio is 1:4 so it's not like the ratio is stellar either.
Yea thats why A went someplace different for infant care. Her starting at 1 was perfect they still taught her manners and baby sign which was nice. At the other place we got diapers, wipes, and food with a 6:1 ratio. Only perk is ratio and single drop off.

We're looking into it. dogmama22 or babylove ... someone fix my tags.
Who do you guys know and what's a good rate for 2 infants? Need 8:30 - 5:30 M thru F.
Snot, high temp, just general fussiness. I thought sickness was supposed to get better in the spring/summer, I'm just not seeing that.
I took #2 in last weekend because she spiked a temp and was super fussy and it turned out to be infection in one ear and they gave her a steroid because she sounded croupy. Luckily fever broke the next day and wasn't contagious after that.
Oh no. I'm honestly waiting it out bc she had something similar a month ago and went to pedi and it was nothing but virus. She hasn't been exhibiting any signs of EI that I can tell. I think it could be a combo of teething and cold bc there is drool everywhere too.
dogmama22 did someone steal you away from DC as a nanny? I wish we could do this mominthemaking14 but that probably wouldn't go over well.
I've used some of the teachers for date night stuff that's about it. But I'd hate to steal someone away for 1 year you ... once A2 is 1 she's going to Prim, I love their program. I just hate the cost of infant care, I even thought about sending A2 back to our old center but they raised their rates to $200/week (diapers, wipes, food and formula included) and while that seems awesome two separate locations for drop off and pick up would such.
mrscatfarmer13 I don't think it's a good idea to negotiate the price by paying in full. Holding half the money is your assurance that it'll be dine right in the end. Like mominthemaking said, if you use a credit card you can dispute the charges. But that will only really protect you if they completely bail and don't do the work. If on the last day you come home and they've done a shitty job, or left your yard a mess, you won't have a leg to stand on if you've already paid them. You could offer to pay more than 50% up front if you think it will help negotiations, but hold something back until the end and make sure you're 100% satisfied

Usually if they take a credit card, they'll charge you a transaction % to cover the fee from the credit card company.

At first I thought she was hoarse, but she had the occasional barking sound. The steroid was supposed to reduce the inflammation.
TYMA toddler classes/sports. We're thinking of joining the Y but the only activities for Bub would be swim or Tball. What other things have your kids done and enjoyed? Where should I be looking?
We're at the park right now. I'll be back to talk nanny share. I'd say you're probably looking at closer to $18/ hour for two infants and you have to pay overtime over 40hrs.

Eek -
Regular time = $18/hr x 40/hrs per week = $720 Overtime = $27/hr x 10/hrs per week = $270
$990/week total split between families
And then you still have to account for vacation time off, sickness, etc.
Do nannies usually have back ups?
Yes we do, but most nannies have some PTO and then you pay the backup. But, nannies also work when your kid is sick and we're sick less than teachers at daycare, so less time off work for sick days.

I'm heading into work, forgot I had to pick up a cake for coworkers bday. She wanted one of the nothing bundt cakes...there is a bright side to my day.

Yeah I hate how expensive DC is, but realistically, Bub is sometimes there for almost 50 hours a week, so (for toddlers) it works out to less than $6/hour. Worth it.

Yea when its broken down we are getting a good deal ugh.

Sadly yes. But I honestly don't know how people do it. There is no way we have another tuition payment hiding in our monthly budget no matter how much we cut back. We've just basically accepted the fact that our savings is going to take a huge hit over the next 2 years. And hopefully when Bub goes to K we can start saving again.

This exactly. We laugh ( probably cry) each month with our 4 mortgage payments we make.

And I basically work for peanuts so if my MIL asks me one more time why I don't just quit my job and stay home with them I might actually cry, bc we'd probably be better off if I did

This has always been my reasoning for staying home. I made shit at my job. But I'm so bored now that I really want to work again, and I'm hoping I find something that makes paying for childcare worthwhile.

Yeah some people are like "we're so fortunate that my H's job is such that I'm able to stay home..." and I'm like "I'm so fortunate that my H is understanding enough to let me keep working when it makes no sense."
Really the only benefit is that I'm afraid I won't be able to find another job in 2 years if I left this one. It would be pretty much impossible to go back to public school after where my career has gone, and I'm not Catholic so I don't exactly feel like I'd be a "shoe in" for another Catholic school position if one came up.
Also that I would hate my life every second of every day if I was a SAHM.

Dont cry. Not everyone wants to stay home and be a SAHM i could never do that. H and I joke that he should stay home then one of us gets a promo. My friends with older kids say after dc is done money comes back for a bit so looking forward to those days.
JoBub so much of that resonates with me, esp the SAHM part lol. I always feel guilty for thinking that about staying home with my kids, but I just don't think I can do it day to day everyday. Andplusalso, I could totally back away from my job for a while and my boss would have me back at anytime. This is the beauty of this family business, but I would lose all my customers and have to come back to nothing. I literally spent 5 years of my life busting my ass to get where I am now. I purposely put off having children until I could get to this place. It just sucks that so many woman have to make these choices about their careers. I wish something big could happen in our society to change this.

One of my work friends has 2 teenage boys and she said it won't get any better when DC is done because they start playing sports and eating everything in sight. But her boys play hockey which is $$$$ and I think when they were younger they both played several other sports also

Yeah, no more DC costs, but then just move those costs to dance, karate, basketball, camps, etc. It might not be as much as DC, or it might depend on how involved the child is in the extra - curricular.

Yea i think it depends for sure. FF no to participation for sake of participation.

I want my kids to try whatever they want to try. But once I pay for it, you're sticking with it for the season. If you don't want to go on after that, fine.
I just can't imagine that my kids extracurricular activities are going to equal what we pay in childcare right now. I mean I used to teach private music lessons and the average charge per 1/2 hr lesson was $22 per week. So if they choose to do music then at most I could be paying like $100 per week for both if they did hour long music lessons. This isn't even close to what we pay per week for DC. I have no idea what sports cost but I can't imagine it equaling anywhere close to $2000 per month. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
