I started DD with rice cereal at 5.5 months. It was terribly constipating. If I do grains at all with the boys (which I may not), I might go with oatmeal. Is there any reason I cant use just regular old quick oats?

You're feeding them something in a way they can't really chew it very well, that's the only thing I can think of, and your standard adult oatmeal is not as fine, it probably shouldn't be spooned into a baby's mouth, I don't think.
I did BLW and I wouldn't hesistate to offer standard oatmeal to a baby who is self-feeding at 5.5/6 months. (Easiest way to offer oatmeal to a new BLWer is 'porridge fingers' which are super easy)
If you're planning on spoon feeding I would get baby oatmeal or look into processing it finely before cooking

Thanks. I was thinking I might grind it. Porridge fingers sounds fun although I wasn't really planning on BLW.
