Pelvic rest and pregnancy after pprom

Generally speaking, docs are split on the efficacy of bedrest in these circumstances. For me, my situation was weird. I had cervical damage at the internal os from a previous cervical pregnancy that was undiagnosed and led to the sac funneling into the cervix, and eventually PPROM, labor and delivery at 21w.

We did a cerclage and 17p and seriously restricted activities with my next pregnancy. Until the b/p issues started I was on modified activity - no standing or walking for more than 15 minutes as a time, nothing more strenuous than walking, no lifting more than 15 lbs (later 10). When resting, recline rather than sit; elevate feet when possible.

That went up even more when b/p issues started. But both my OB and MFM specifically said that they don't recommend total bedrest for IC or PPROM because studies don't prove efficacy to their satisfaction and there are other risks associated with bedrest that concerned them.

jnetx, are you talking about pelvic rest (no sex) or bedrest? I PROMed with my first and was not put on any restrictions with my 2nd until I started having preterm contractions. I was put on pelvic rest 1st and then modified bedrest.

I work on a prenatal unit (caring for PPROM women is part of what I do), and I don't think I've personally heard any docs recommend pelvic rest in a subsequent normal pregnancy simply because of PPROM in a previous one. I mean, if you wanted to take every precaution under the sun just in case, I suppose there's nothing wrong with that, but I'm not aware of any research supporting that particular recommendation.
