NGKUR: Not feeling too sexy right now!

 Hello Ladies,

I am currently in a funk. It may sound a little silly because I'm actually pretty confident and secure with myself but recently I have been feeling less sexy. Ever since coming off BCP, I have had some break out episodes on my face and body (chest and back). Now, I know make up can cover up the blemishes on my face and that works. But, I feel less attractive when I see huge red pimples on my chest. I've been more cautious of what I wear. I have been trying to cover up with scarfs or high neck shirts so they are not too noticeable. My DH is so cute, sweet man that he is, he says he doesn’t mind and he's like "your body is just fucking with you". So maybe it’s not a big deal and I am just being a dum dum.

So what do you do to feel sexy?

So, today, I ended up curling my hair (I usually straighten it during the week) and doing a smokey eye (I usually do a more natural make up for work) to make myself feel a bit more sexy.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

One thing I do that really helps is wearing pretty lingerie under my normal clothes. Like a fun little secret. Even if it's just a matching lace bra/panties. It definitely helps to boost my inner sexiness.

Also - high heels do wonders for my self confidence - anytime I wear a great pair of shoes, I feel like I could conquer the world.

I go to the tanning bed a few times when I'm feeling yucky. Or I use the Jergens self tanning lotion. A little color does the body good!

I love high heels.  I actually can wear a heel everyday not too high but definitely a heel thanks for your kind words!

I've never gone to a tanning place but I have done a lotion self tanner.  I think I've used the neutrogena brand.  Thanks for sharing!

When I'm not feeling sexy I hit the gym! It really gives me a boost of happy endorphins and makes me feel better in my clothes and out of them!

When I'm in a bad funk I take a couple personal days to regroup - workout, organize my life, go shopping, eat better, relax. I'm type A and often my funks are related to feeling out of control. A day or two off helps re-center me which serves to make me feel better overall.

I love putting on H's shirt, curling my hair and putting on some perfume. Sometimes I will sit up and wait on him like this but it always makes me feel sexy.

I get the same acne on my chest. I feel ya. I wear higher necklines to cover it up but I'll wear a top thats figure flattering so that it also helps me feel not frumpy. High heels always help too.
You could plan a little mini date night, eat dinner by candle light, go out for a romantic stroll, that kind of thing.

Ugh, I totally feel you. In the last 9 months I've gone off BC (had breakouts, gained weight, and worked out like crazy get back to normal), gotten pregnant (had breakouts, gained weight a little too fast, kept exercising, and it started to level off), and lost the baby (after which I had breakouts, lost then regained weight, and am currently working to get back to normal). It is hard, and it makes you feel like you're not really yourself.

All the advice here is great. In the last month, one of the things that has made me feel sexy is getting dressed up and having a few drinks with my H out at a bar. We both get a little sillier and flirtier and remember that rush of attraction we have to each other.

So... #sorrynotsorry my advice is drinking?

I'm right there with you on the acne after BCP - only I've been off the pill for 18 months...

Everyone here has had great suggestions - some that I'm going to try myself. I know I just feel frustration when I look at the acne, so deep breathing and relaxation techniques help to calm me down, which makes me feel better. Then I can just say F it, and stop looking in the mirror.

Yoga, bubble bath and wine! I find it just helps me relax and forget everything I worry about. Plus doing yoga before hand makes me realize how flexible I am and how much my husband loves it! haha!

paloslee, Are you me? I am dealing with the exact same thing! The toughest part for me is in the gym. I am so self-conscious in the gym now. I cover up a lot just because I don't want people to think I'm some roiding weight-lifting crazy person. It kind of sucks.

During the rest of the day, I just wear bright red lipstick. It keeps attention on my face.

I've always had acne on my chest/back I've taken two rounds of Accutane in the past, but it still comes back, mostly in the winter (although way less awful than it used to be). But I def feel your pain - for the longest time I avoided anything that showed my back, but after a while I just couldn't care anymore. Sometimes I'll put a bit of powder foundation (I use Bare Minerals) on my chest to provide a bit of cover. The tricky part is that benzoyl peroxide is really the only topical that is safe during pregnancy, and it bleaches out clothes. Salicylic acid is the best for it, but is not safe during pregnancy. DH is great though - he tells me how much he loves my back and gives me lots of back rubs, which makes me feel sexy despite the acne. I'm sure your DH still finds you sexy as well! As far as other tips, everyone else has provided some great tips.

I've had a ton of acne my whole life (only on my face but it was BAD) so I completely understand how it can make you feel unsexy. Even after I went through Accutane I still get breakouts when I'm nearing my period. Like right now I have a huge ugly one right on my NECK!? No way to cover that up, really.

Anyways, I agree with spaghettioh about shaving my legs to feel sexier. Especially now that it's winter I often go a long time without shaving and whenever I do it I feel amazing. Also agree with all the ladies that mentioned heels! I have a casual work environment but if I'm feeling really bad about myself I put on heels regardless of the fact that everyone else will be in flats. And I'm usually complimented on them!

Another thing I like to do is paint my nails (or get them done) in a sexy red color. There's something about red nails that just makes me feel really good about myself. Oh and red lipstick too! Or any lipstick.
