What will LO call you and DH/SO?

I never really put much thought into it...

When speaking to our dog, DH and I refer to each other as "mama (well, more like moma)" and "daddy" so that'll probably rub off on LO when he/she starts talking. We never refer to each other like that when talking to one another, but will say stuff like "Daddy's home" or "Go get mama" when addressing our dog because we're weirdos like that.

I always called my dad either dad or daddoo, but my mom I usually call by her first name or first initial.   Because she NEVER responded to mom.  I don't know what the disconnect was - she's a fabulous mother.  But in the supermarket or any public place I could call "mom" till I was blue in the face and she'd never think someone was calling her.  It's kind of a joke in our family.

Umm my DH calls me by my name. It'd be creepy if he called me mommy. I'm not his mother.

In my family if you speak to someone younger you use the name they would use. E.g. Dad speaking to son "Son give this to mum please" it would never be "Son give this to Leenzie." Applies across every relative. But if DH was talking to me directly he better not be calling me mum. I agree it would be cringe worthy

Mommy and Daddy really aren't my thing, but whatever if my kids start randomly calling me Mommy. It just makes me cringe when grown adults still call their parents Mommy and Daddy, so at some point I feel like that has to stop.

Lol this is me all the way. More mummy than daddy though.

In situations like that we use "your mother" or "your mom" so DH would say "LBB give this to your mother."

We were "mama" and "dada" at first, but our 19 month of is starting to say "mommy" and "daddy", so it'll be interesting to see what this LO says first.

My mum just asked me about this last night. I haven't given it much thought since I've been pregnant. I actually talked with DH about it when we were first married but funnily enough, since it's been more of a reality I haven't thought about it. What I told Mum was that I expect it will change as the child grows. I think Mama is easiest for a baby/young child to say and it sounds cute. DH thinks it would be cute if baby called him by his nickname (shortened version of his first name) but I am against this for the reasons leenziepops mentioned-I was raised that one does not call an older person by their first name. I never call my parents by their names or my extended family by their first names only. Even non-family has to be Ms or Mr or if they're close to us, Aunt or Uncle. I could not handle my child calling my husband by his first name all the time and I think my mum would have a heart attack.

My mum is the same way. She says she has the most common "name" and everyone is calling their mother the same way in the store, it's easy to tune out. If I really want to get her attention, I have to say "Mrs Lastname" because that's what she's used to being called at work (she works in a school) and it's what she calls herself. It's no wonder I'm so averse to using my parents' first names--she doesn't use them herself. She calls herself Mrs and my dad has been Mr Lastname since he became a teacher. Before that it was Honey and then Hubbin. She has basically never called him by his first name. Probably why I usually call DH Honey or Dear as well.
