Oh, I have one, I guess. Spurred from my comment about Tilapia. Ironically, I hate the word "panties". It sounds silly to me so I prefer to say underwear. I only said panties before to stay true to the saying.
I do too. For some reason every time I hear the word, I think of dirty child molesters. I realize this is incredibly ridiculous.
The FFFC could be a UO, I guess? Let me see how to phrase it...
I don't think Dorito's belong in any recipe, and I can't imagine why anyone would bother making pigs in a blanket as a meal for dinner. If I am going to take time to cook something, why would I make something that I can probably buy frozen that's not any healthier or better tasting?
Sometimes the WFD threads have interesting meal plans, that's what prompted the thought.
I'm with you, I can't bring myself to put chips or pop in recipes. If I want to eat like crap I'll eat out. Home made meals are for eating healthy.
I don't know that they always need to be healthy, but if I am spending time and money putting together a meal, I want it be better quality than that.
I got another one. I don't like when people end their phone call with "mm-bye". This might just be a Midwest thing but it drives me nuts.
I'm not sure I've noticed this. I will pay attention.
I've know people who do this and have heard strangers do it...answer the phone with "yellow". I know that's not what they are saying but totally sounds this way. Makes me lol.
trtlcrzy, on the same vein, I hate when people don't say bye at all at the end of a call. I had to get on to one of my bosses about it and told him he can do it with everyone else, but when he's talking to me on the phone he needs to say bye.
cagoldi I agree on the working out thing. My other thing is that I'm planning on ttc in a few months and I don't want to work hard just to have to start all over again. I just don't want to gain any weight right now and losing is a bonus.
Lol I've made pigs in a blanket recently. Tim loves them for some reason so I make them at his request. Idk, I guess my opinion is that whatever works works. If pigs in a blanket feeds your family, saves money on fast food, and saves you time, then do what you do. I've made 4 new recipes this week, but sometimes it's nice to just spend 10 mins in the kitchen instead of an hour.

My dad answers the phone "yellow!" I have never understood it but he had done it as long as I can remember. We thought it was so funny as kids. He is from NJ, maybe it's a regional thing? I'm going to have to ask him.

I agree on the fitness- I just don't have time and the only gym locally with DC is inconvenient to my house.
I'm not doing anything now, but over the past spring/summer I walked with the stroller any chance I got. It was for 2-3 hours every Saturday with a friend and any other chance I could. I hope to do that this summer too. My DH has the P25 DVDs, I might use those after the baby.
I always have said I needed to gain a little weight, I know - I suck, but unfortunately the baby weight didn't stick in the right places. Let's hope that doesn't happen this time too.
Sometimes I say "hubs". More often, I say "The Mister".
I get judgy about food. I love my fair share of crap ( you Five Guys), but it would never occur to me to put chips or Coke into a meal. In my Nest days, I used to gag every time someone recommended crockpot meatballs with grape jelly. Whatever. I'll never judge how much you spend on shoes or a handbag, but I will judge what you put on a plate.
Not that exciting, but I don't really care much about losing weight or exercising at this point in life. I don't want to take my dude to gym DC when he's already been gone all day, and I don't want to miss out on spending time with Pete after A goes to bed. I know it's important to take care of yourself, but I've never enjoyed working out, and in my mind it's just one more thing I have to do. I feel like it's okay if I put fitness on the back burner for a few years.
I don't find this unpopular. I quit working out as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first. Problem is that was 8+ years ago now. In the past few weeks, I think I have decided I'm done having kids. Life is not looking like it will be slowing down anytime soon. I was at my weight from when it got married at Christmas this year. Then I stopped breast feeding and I'm not feeling right. I think if I don't get into something soon, I never will. I survived 15 months of getting up 4 times a night. Now my kid sleeps so I'm ready to get up 30 minutes earlier to squeeze some workout time in.

French manicures are really played out.
This is me exactly…. I love some junk food, but I get a little judgey when I see parents serving hotdogs on the reg or offering soda at every meal. I also kind of judge people that only eat processed crap food. I have a cousin who is really over weight and she has two kids, she is always posting pictures of there dinners and it's just so much crap and so much food! Like mac and cheese with fried chicken and streak and mashed potatoes and rolls. I kid you not. Not a vegetable to be seen. It makes me sad for her kids an for her, because I want her to be healthy. And I love me a good hotdog, but only with a beer at a game or on the fourth of july! That's not to say I don't give in and get my kids (and myself) fast food once in awhile, but the doritios casserole dishes kind of baffle me.
I have however had meatballs made with grape jelly in the crockpot and they were delicious!
I totally feel for all the moms that can't fit working out in. I think it's completely understandable. I sah so it's easy for me to get there every morning (plus they have childcare), but I remember when I was working part time after I had my first, it was so hard for me to go. I was always exhausted and didn't want to stick DS back in a daycare after he'd been in one for most of the day. I think it's ok to recognize this and figure out what may or may not work for you. I know it's different, but I hardly ever go to the gym on the weekends because DH works so much and i feel like it's our only time together as a family.
I jumped around a little bit in the post adding extra thoughts, so I hope it all makes sense!
I agree on the fitness front. There's only so much time in a day and with my commute, Maggie's already in daycare 10+ hours a day. Gym daycare closes at 7 on weeknights and I couldn't even get there before 6:30, which is Maggie's dinner time. I try to go when I can on weekends, but it's not often because we are always running errands.
I do have a Fit by 40 idea in mind, though. I just turned 38 and the baby's due in July. I'm hoping to get back on track fitness-wise after he's here and I'm cleared to work out. I'm hoping to take advantage of gym daycare for the second half of my maternity leave, since we'll be sending Maggie to daycare. At least then I'll have a jump on it when I go back to work and lose the ability to go to the gym on weekdays again.
I don't know; it works great in my head, but maybe I'm crazy thinking I'll be more successful with 2 kids than I've been with just one.
I like the idea of Fit by 40. That gives me 7 more years to sit around on my Kim K sized ass while I scarf popcorn and Skittles.

Trying to gain is not that easy, either. In HS I got too thin, weighing 107 at one point (I'm 5'6"). On my frame, it looked terrible. I ate 4 decent sized meals and drank Slim Fast for snacks and put on 10 pounds, and looked much healthier.

I know better than to assume someone feeds their kid something like that every single night unless I see it, but I just see those ingredients and keep moving. If Pete told me he wanted Pigs in A Blanket, I'd tell him to buy them. It's just not the type of thing I'd want to prepare.
Re: $60 shoes, I must have been absent that day. I don't remember this discussion at all. It's more than I care to spend, but I don't think it's outrageous. The few pairs we've bought at Stride Rite were $45-$50.

Man cagoldi your steel trap is failing you tonight
Right? But I don't usually read those. I don't buy them nor do I want to, so I move along. Apparently, I need to pay attention to even the most benign looking topics!
@mothereffer I grew up pretty poor too. My mom has a spending problem and squandered every penny of her salary (when she worked) and child support...and then some. My sister and I had to share clothes. I didn't even have my own until I went to college.
Maybe it's a regional thing, but we always had vegetables. They were either canned or from the farmer's market before farmer's markets were what they are now (think open warehouse).
Dried beans are dirt cheap. So are rice and dried pasta. We rarely ate meat. We grew up in an area with a lot of agriculture though, so I freely admit that it could be different in other parts of the country.
You're completely right that processed food is a hell of a lot cheaper than fresh, plus it lasts longer. I can definitely see the appeal for someone with limited time on a limited budget.
I really think it's time that we start putting a bigger focus on nutrition and incorporating it into curriculum.

This was me too. My parents had 4 kids very young and not much money. There was never room for many treats in the budget, but we always had a meal with lots of veggies and beans, rice, or pasta. Meat was served maybe once or twice a week, and in smaller potions than what accompanied it. I don't ever remember being hungry and I have a huge appreciation for food now.
That being said, I eat and have given my child boxed Mac and cheese and other processed foods, so no judgement from me. I think having a balance is key. And I think it is a travesty that fresh produce and unprocessed options are not as easily available on a budget.
I make fish with plain tortilla chips crumbled on top and I consider myself to be fanceh. A little lime, butter, and cumin on a white fish topped with the crushed chips. Then I heat up some fresh salsa mixed with a little sour cream in a pan and drizzle over the fish. Top with a bit of cilantro and voila! fish your kids will eat!
