I had to let my furbaby go this morning.
My favorite, most loving cat went into kidney failure about two weeks ago. We did the same treatment as last time (subcutaneous fluids for a week and watered-down wet food) but it wasn't enough this time. She was doing better for a 4 or 5 days, and I thought everything was going to be fine. She's been through this before, 2 years ago, and came back from it strong and happy. But she stopped eating Wednesday morning, and started hiding, so we took her back to the vet and her numbers were through the roof.
We did things that she loves most this morning, before going in. She had a sauna (she loved being in the bathroom when I take hot showers) and snuggled under the blankets. She and her sister (littermates) snuggled in a basket of clothing until we left.
I just can't believe she's gone. She turned 14 this month, and I've had her since she was about 5 months old. She was the first to show me absolute, unconditional love. I would hold in my arms and she'd clean me and then look at me with the sweetest, happiest face. Other times, when she wasn't snuggling with her sister, she'd just sit next to me and lean against me, or lay down so I could rub her belly. I can't even talk about it without starting to cry.
