Reinventing the wheel with another round of AMAs! Thanks for the nominations in the Randoms thread yesterday, and I hope to make you all proud. I'm running out to drop L off at school, so I'll start answering upon my return. Aaaaaaaaaaand go!
Summarize the main events in your life during your bump break in 3 sentences or less.
bunny Good question (and this doesn't count as one of my sentences)!
While I was going through the divorce, I started heading down a really self-destructive path that resulted in me burning a few bridges with close friends (some that are here on this board); losing those friendships really made me take a step back and reevaluate everything. During the transitional period after I moved out and got settled in my apartment, instead of doing things for other people, I took time to focus on L and repair the relationship with my family and my relationship with me. I've done a ton of soul searching, pulled my life together, and I'm finally at peace with myself and my decision to where I don't feel I have to jump into another unhealthy relationship; when the time is right, it will happen.
What's your recipe for the dinner you made? Can you teach me?
mamosey The dinner I made last night was so easy ANYBODY can make it. Hint: if you have an indian store near you, you're all set. I normally make everything from scratch, but as I mentioned last night, this was South Indian food and I am North Indian, so it's completely out of my realm. I bought a Sambar mix (essentially seasonings and lentils) to which you add water and boil, and I upgraded it with tomatoes, green beans, potatoes, carrots, and onions. The rice crepes or dosas came from a pre-mixed batter that's available in the refrigerator section of the indian store, but the trick is ladling it out on the pan at the perfect temperature where it's paper thin and golden and crispy. THAT is where I'm practicing. SO GOOD. In fact, I think I'll have leftover sambar with my mimosa.
Best date: Still waiting. I'm super picky now and have turned down a few dates in the last few months. Hoping that the next one I accept (after a very stringent filtering process) will be the best. To be continued...
Worst date: My first date with my XH. He picked me up and was drinking a 40 in a paper bag (REALLY!? I should have run), took me to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant bar where you eat peanuts at the table and throw the shells on the floor. When the waitress came over to take our drink order, he asked for 3 things: a Miller Lite in a bottle, a shot of Jager, and separate checks. WTAF was I thinking going out with him again?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm mortified sharing this story with you fine folks. At least I got L out of it.
Oh hashtagrainbow, I adore you for sharing that story. I'm sure a lot of us (me included) have given guys a second chance when they didn't deserve it. The important thing is you got out now and you're kicking ass.
djtippietoes Dream Job would be where I could just run my Etsy shop without interruptions (like my real job) and actually thrive on that as sole income. Realistically, I would love to be able to work from home and have the flexibility to be able to take L to swimming lessons, for example.
Ann Taylor Loft is always #1. Always. I call her my little sister because we share initials. When I have money, Nordstrom and Gap. When I'm broke, Old Navy and Target.
keags5496 Right now, I'm in love with Coldplay. I would love for a best date story to include a Coldplay concert!
Best concert I've been to was probably David Grey. It was at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, which is a beautiful venue for those who live here or are familiar, and it was a surprise for my birthday from a dear guy friend of mine in college.
bluedot Anything Indian. Especially my mom's recipes. Because sentimental. Because delicious. Because it brings me back to my roots. And the Indian milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.
