Has anyone already had a hysterectomy? I will have mine soon.
I have an ultrasound in two weeks to see the best means of removal. They were going to try hysteroscopy (where they remove it vaginally without cutting into my abdomen) but she thinks my fibroid is too big now.
I was wondering if anyone has been through either type of surgery and what to expect, especially in regards to recovery.

My sister didn't have a TAH, but she did have a huge ass fibroid removed. It was done vaginally. Obviously the recoveries are totally different, but I will say she bounced back the next day from hers. Although it would be two procedures, would it be worth removing the fibroid first, then doing the TAH to keep everything minimally invasive?
I've talked to a variety of pts and the ones who have the vaginal procedure seem to outnumber the traditional ones, so I'll keep my fingers crossed you can do that.

The placement of the fibroid prevents them from removing just the fibroid vaginally. They would have to cut into me to get to it. It's also close to my bladder which would make the surgery a little risky. That's why we opted out of embryo adoption, because I'd have to remove the fibroid before implantation. :/

Ahhh...well there goes my only thought! I still hope you can do the minimally invasive one!
I have no personal experience but my sister had to have her hysterectomy done when she was 30 due to cancer. She had it removed vaginally but her recovery was harder due to her also having to go through radiation. Once she was completely healthy cancer wise she said she felt 100%. Good luck to you and I hope for a speedy recovery.

My hysterectomy is scheduled for April 29th. I will have to be cut into, which means 4 weeks off from everything, including picking up my son. ::insert ugly face cry here:: Our daycare was able to get him in full-time for the month of May which is a HUGE relief. Trying not to be too nervous about it.

Thank you all for the sweet words and well wishes! My surgery went great! I got rid of all my tubes today, I've been keeping food down, and I've been able to walk around pretty well without assistance. I'm really, really sore, but it's not unbearable. Once they change my dressing, I get to shower for the first time! Yay! They plan on discharging me tomorrow.
