GTKY: Fantasy vs Actual weekend

IRL: I am working late tonight then we are leaving tomorrow morning to go out of town for the weekend to see my family

Usually: I work late then we just lay low at home on Friday nights or go have dinner at the ILs. Saturday morning we always go out to eat for breakfast then go to Walmart to do grocery shopping. Then we go home, feed DD dinner, do laundry and hang around the house for the rest of the day. On Sundays we go out to eat for breakfast, go to church, and then hang around the house for the rest of the day or go see the ILs.

Ideal is probably pretty close to the usual. I like having everything together and ready for the week ahead and get a little stressed when its not. However, I am excited for a less typical weekend this weekend.

Ideal (this is fantasy right): checking out an awesome play or concert or taking quick trip somewhere

Reality: Friday night laundry and relaxing in front of the tv, Saturday- grocery shopping, glucose test and house work, Sunday- relaxing and more housework plus maybe some crafting.

Fantasy: DH is home for dinner tonight, and we have a fun weekend planned with friends coming to visit for DS1's bday party tomorrow.


Reality: DH will likely be in the OR until midnight, leaving me to do all of DS1's bday party prep solo. We do have friends coming to visit from OOT, and DS1 HAS NO IDEA and it's his BFF and her parents (who are DH/my good friends too) from our old town. I can't wait to see how he reacts when he sees her this afternoon!!!! His bday party is tomorrow at noon.

Anyway, I have a lot of cleaning to do between now and 2-3pm!

Fantasy: me having tons of energy when I get home today and I finish cleaning out the nursery and get it prepped for paint. Sleeping in tomorrow, having a great breakfast, and painting babies room. Maybe doing a little baby shopping. Sunday is lounging in my magically clean house as a reward for all my hard work.

Reality:
-I'll probably be exhausted when I get home tonight. We will probably just veg out while I internally freak out about the potential of going into preterm labor with our house a mess and nothing prepared for the baby.

-Tomorrow will be forcing myself to go do my glucose test. 'nuff said. Then maaaaaaybe I'll be raring to work on the babies room by myself while H is out with his friend. That or I'll feel like garbage from sugar drink.

-Sunday will be a family day including a train ride to a historic farm for pancake breakfast. But the bummer is we will be on the train at 9 and not return till 4. That's alllllllll day and my feet hurt after a normal Target run so... I think the "fun" will be short lived then I'll probably be really uncomfortable.

Fantasy would be lounging around in the sun somewhere (anywhere except home) and eating delicious food all weekend.

Reality is H has overbooked himself (as per the usual) and will be working his side jobs alllllll weekend, leaving me to deal with everything else. We'll be lucky to get the time to go out for dinner as a family one night.

Honestly at this point I am just so sick of everyone I know who has ever been pregnant telling me what to eat or not eat or do or not do that I just want it done.  Thanks for your advice friends but I think I'm going to do what the doctor said instead of trying to follow advice from everyone on the planet.

Reality: I'm going to try to get free Italian ice and then h and I will go home and pass out on the couch around 9.

Fantasy-DH calls his mom to babysit DS and takes me out to dinner. DS does not act like an unstable two year old at the birthday party we're going to tomorrow and all the laundry magically folds itself.

Reality-we'll probably have a dinner at home, DS will throw a tantrum at the birthday party tomorrow and I will be folding laundry during naptimes this weekend.

Fantasy: DD would be in bed by 7:30 and DH and I could relax this evening. Tomorrow morning she'd sleep until at least 7.

Ideal: DD will figh bedtime tonight and be up at 6 am tomorrow morning.

Fantasy: Friday night happy hour!!

Reality: Friday night happy hour!! Except by "happy hour," I mean my Friday evening chiropractor appointment. Yay. Actually, this weekend should be fun. My MIL is throwing us a shower with all of my husband's side of the family, and I'm so grateful because we both have big families, and the idea of one big shower with everyone from both sides is super overwhelming.

Fantasy: sitting outside and doing fun summer things and being awesome

Reality: it's supposed to snow a lot. Every year this weekend we manage to get our welcome to spring storm.

But we'll still be awesome.

Ideal: shopping for baby, drinking and watching basketball all weekend.
Reality: This is the week of the month all of our "big bills" come due (car payments, insane gas bill last month, etc etc) so I really shouldn't shop. I need to start getting DH's birthday presents together though. Tomorrow we have to go to a wedding for one of my former coworkers, so that will screw up the afternoon/evening. Outside of that, DH will be working on the bathroom (almost DONE!! starting on the nursery in a couple of weeks hopefully!) and I will be cleaning, grocerying, cooking and puttering around the house while I watch basketball. Sans BEER of course.

Tonight I think my fantasy will be my actuality. I just want to get pizza and veg. And I get to because my weekend looks like:

Fantasy: I'd go for a run with the girls, laze about the house, maybe hit the beach with the family. Get lots of sleep.

Reality: I'll be working most of the weekend, then scurrying to clean the house with DH before our friends come to dinner Sunday night. There will be very little sleep.

IRL: He's off tomorrow, but has a big ticket side job to get done this weekend. He'll be restoring a 1970's motorcycle while I'm packing and getting the house prepped for our landlords realtor to come through next week as they are are thinking of selling instead of finding another lessee. Our landlords decided to sell the house we were renting when we told them we were not renewing out lease. IT WAS SO ANNOYING. The realtor was there all the time judging our shit. They replaced the carpets and repainted the entire house while we were still there. I was working from home at the time which made it much more annoying. Then they had some lady come in and "stage" our house with our stuff. She asked us to put up a huge clock that we had originally hanging over the fireplace but took down when they painted, and we declined to do that. Then a photographer came to take pictures. THEN they started showing the house so the house had to be perfectly clean for a while and I had to fucking take the dogs out anytime someone came over. Thankfully they only had about 6 people come look and they got an offer on the house before it went on the market.

Fantasy: Getting a prenatal massage. Having a maid come clean my house. Sitting by a pool drinking a refreshing strawberry lemonade.

Reality: DH is playing in a Top Golf tournament tomorrow. It will be raining. I will probably just clean the house and watch movies.

Ideal: We would find a great car within our budget that isn't a 4 hr drive away. I would finish planting the strawberries with DD, and have a tea party with her, and DH would then joyfully take both kids away for the day while I nap and eat without feeling nauseated.

Reality: DH spends 6 hrs playing board games at his parents' house while the kids watch tv and I knit, and then we spend all day Sunday driving to almost Canada to look at a car.

Now that I see everyone else's I want to indulge more in the fantasy...

Fantasy, Saturday DD sleeps in later than 7am, we go to breakfast, we go get groceries but DD decides she wants to sit in the cart the whole time so I can shop with ease and don't feel rushed.  When I get home, DH unloads and puts all of the groceries away for me, then I go sort laundry and start laundry, but DH insists he will walk the laundry up and down the stairs for me... oh and folding and putting it away, he's got that taken care of too.  Meanwhile DD decides she wants to play dolls or with her toy kitchen by herself so I can sit back and relax a little bit.  Later, DD nicely eats lunch at her highchair without throwing food or pouring water all over the place, so clean-up is a breeze.  Then she goes upstairs to take a nap and falls asleep within a few minutes...

Yep this is what I really want to do. We are having such gorgeous weather out here (I think it was like 83 yesterday) and I want nothing more than to go downtown and get a salad and glass of wine to enjoy on one of the outdoor patios.

Ideal: Sitting by a pool somewhere warm while drinking a wonderfully alcoholic fruity drink and having no responsibilities and no place to be.

Actual: Tonight - mad cleaning the house so it looks presentable when a potential nanny comes over for an interview.
Saturday - baseball tryouts and indoor soccer practice in the morning, nanny interview after lunch, volunteering and serving food at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars for several hours in evening, come home and scamble to fit in online job work before passing out.
Sunday - church, more baseball, visit Grandma in nursing home, make sure homework is done, and get ready for another week of chaos.

Ideal Non-Pregnancy: I would like to be somewhere warm with sunshine on a patio drinking wine and eating lunch. Perfection!! 

Ideal Pregnancy: The same, minus alcohol and add in a pool. It is depressingly cold here with a chance of snow. I desperately need warmth and sun!!

Reality: Since it is still cold outside, we will be indoors working on the nursery, including a trip to IKEA to buy a dresser for the nursery. I will probably cook a few yummy dinners and lunches. We always treat ourselves to cinnamon rolls on Sundays...cinnamon rolls and coffee!

Fantasy: Spending the weekend a few miles west of here--Sitting at a winery by Lake Michigan, sipping on my favorite red with DH, eating a fabulous dinner and spa treatments the following morning. Yep, that'd be amazing.

Actual: Cleaning tonight as my FIL and Step-MIL are coming to visit for the day/night tomorrow. They are bringing us dressers for the nursery and more than likely other fun baby stuff, and it'll be nice to see them, but my fantasy sounds way better...

Update on my actual: Instead of getting home and doing laundry I got a call from my mom telling me my 94 year old grandma fell and broke her hip. She was in my hometown about an hour and half away but they had no surgeon so they sent her to my city for surgery. They wouldn't tell my family when they'd scheduled surgery only that it was best for them to wait to come here until Saturday.

I went up to the hospital and Grandma was extremely agitated and wouldn't even let the nurses put in an IV. End up sitting with her for a few hours.

Sorry to hear that.. Its so hard to see them agitated like that too, you just want them to accept the help. My grandad went in Hosp last week n keeps pulling his IV out, its so frustrating but i know he's just scared. I hope things get better for her (and you too) and she at least calms down enough for the nurses to do what they need to. Lots of positive, get well vibes coming your way!

Thanks! I spoke to the hospital this morning and they were able to operate last night.  She's much better this morning, still very confused but at least not agitated and trying to pull out the lines so she can leave.  They said they are hoping to send her back to the hospital in my hometown either tomorrow or Monday depending on how things go.

Sorry to hear that!! I hope everything goes well! Glad she's doing better after the surgery! Prayers for your family!!!

Fantasy: We'd go for a nice walk outside today in the warm weather, maybe grab lunch downtown. Once DD is in bed for the night, we'd have a movie date in, complete with popcorn that we picked up on the way home from the theatre because nothing else compares. Sunday I'd go for a nice massage while DH stays home with DD and then we'd have a BBQ and eat outside! Just a nice, quiet weekend with my family.

Reality: DH is working out of town until tomorrow so it's day 5 of solo parenting. It's cold and snowy outside and DD is miserable and currently smearing banana all over the floor. Tomorrow we are stuck going to a big family birthday party complete with more screaming children and chocolate cake that I can't eat because I gave up chocolate for Lent.

Idea: sitting on a beach or at a swim up bar, somewhere tropical, with a drink in my hand, doing nothing.

IRL: Sitting on the sofa in my living room doing nothing.

Fantasy: Nice, warm weather with no snow, hanging out with DH all weekend, eating lunch and dinner outside on the deck with him and the pups.

Reality: Working all weekend and not seeing DH at all except in the morning when I wake up and he's sleeping. Just about to break out the foot bath for my aching feet!
