So I lurk parenting (don't we all) and saw a post about baby sign language. Are you guys going to sign with your kids? When are you going to start? What resources are you planning to use/do you already know how to sign?
I want to start signing with DS, but I'm not sure when to start and I have no knowledge of sign language so I'm probably going to need to find a book or internet resource or something.
We didn't start with ds1 until he was much older. Most of the stuff he learned was taught to us in our toddler group that he was going to for speech therapy.

omg the teenagers are so poorly behaved today.
Is it A.) Because I didn't sleep well today B.) I am trying to give up caffeine and see if that is what is making baby E gassy or C.) Because they are teenagers and are disasters after a long weekend. D.) All of the above. Drink wine tonight

Well now I feel like a turd for not teaching them to sign "please." Maybe this is why DD1 now thinks it's a magical word to get what she wants. "But, Momma, I PEEEASE! PEASE, Momma. I pease!" (toddler translation "I said please" FYI)

Our day care does some signing, so once she is a bit older, we will reinforce what they use (not sure which program it is). Side note, I was taught a hodgepodge of sign languages as a baby due to being functionally mute (suspected brain damage but in the 1970s, no MRIs so they could never confirm). I eventually learned to speak when I was almost 2 years old. However, I apparently had a larger sign vocabulary than most speaking toddlers at that age.

Re: baby sign, we started at 12 months with please, thank you, more, all done, eat, no- I think there were a few others? DS1 is 3 next month and still uses all done and please on occasion. It was nice because our sitter also used sign for her kids, so she understood his language.

ANSPLUSALSO. I ate my peanut butter sandwich on a hamburger bun because we were out of bread. Still awesome. I want to put all my sandwich foods on hamburger buns, now.

Story of my life. Funny I always have hamburger buns when we aren't having hamburger but then we are out by the time I end up serving burgers and then we use bread.

I work with a woman who teaches ASL, and she gave me the Baby Sign DVDs. She says they are amazing. We watched one. I can say it's time to eat a cracker. Or, I'd like to drink some milk. That's it.
I'm sitting in the backseat of my car because we are early for DS's pedi appointment and I don't want to sit inside with the sickies until we have to. He doesn't want to interact with me and keeps giving me the stink eye.

We never did any signing with DD1, and I honestly don't regret it. Probably won't do it with DD2 either. But we'll see. I'm certainly not against it, it works wonderfully for some families! We just didn't find it necessary.

Same here. Not judging those that do, but we didn't find it necessary enough to try. We were able to communicate with C just fine.
