I ordered the zipadee for after LO figures out how to roll. It seems more like the next step of the transition after the merlin. Right now we need the merlin. I'm not sure how she would even be able to roll in the Merlin I don't think I could roll while wearing that.
We've been successfully using the halo sleep sack with arms out for a few weeks. Now all of a sudden (either 4 month sleep regression or vaccines) he is waking 2-3 times a night and will only go back to sleep in our bed (he starts in the crib). Im debating about ordering a zippadee zip or wait out this phase??
One week ago I feared the swaddle transition. She just had to have it. We are now on night two of her putting herself to sleep without it. What?? I'll take it! Not counting our chickens just yet but it gives me hope. GL to you all!
mrscw, this is copy-and-pasted from their website. They don't recommend using it once your baby is rolling. If your LO is rolling or close to it, the zippadee might be a better option. I will report, the Merlin is working beautifully for us! He's sleeping better in it than he was in his rnp lately. Yay!
--------------------------- How and when should I transition my baby from the Magic Sleepsuit? The Magic Sleepsuit can be worn as long as your baby fits in it or is comfortable wearing it, and is back sleeping. You should enjoy the restful nights and naps until your baby is ready to transition out of the Magic Sleepsuit. When babies start to roll over in the Magic Sleepsuit, this is typically a sign that they are ready for more movement in their sleep, so should be transitioned out of the Magic Sleepsuit. Also, the Magic Sleepsuit is specifically designed for back sleeping, so it is not recommended that babies use the Magic Sleepsuit in any other sleep position. When it is time to transition babies out of the Magic Sleepsuit, they are usually ready to do so, and the transition goes smoothly.
If my baby has started to roll over in the Magic Sleepsuit, should I transition him/her out of it? Yes. The Magic Sleepsuit is designed for back sleeping in the crib. It is not to be used for tummy sleeping. If your baby has started to roll over in the Magic Sleepsuit while sleeping, then it is time to transition him or her out of it. This is typically a sign that babies are ready for the next stage of having more freedom of movement in their sleep.
Crap! I did not do my due diligence. I assumed it would be ok for rolling because of the arms. Ours just came in though, and I only took a quick look. Hopefully it gets is over the hump!
LO woke himself up at 10 pm by kicking his legs into the air and slamming them down on his PNP mattress in his Ollie swaddle. Wtf?? At least he shouldn't be able to do that in the Merlin?

I hope the Merlin works for you. LO is a crazy sleeper and slams her hands and feet around even in the Merlin but she's so padded in this thing that it doesn't wake her up.
I was planning on waiting until the weekend (just in case) to wash and try it, but LO is on his third wake up since 1:30. I may try it sooner since I'm not sleeping anyway.

Cold turkey?
Yep. I remember her brother doing the same thing around 4 months. I think the trick is that she can roll to her side if she wants and that also keeps her from startling awake. Slept 10:30-6:45 last night. We had been wrapping her loosely for about a week and she occasionally got out of the swaddle so that could helped the transition too.
Thanks, bunattack. He slept in the Merlin from 2:15-4:30ish. I gave him his binky and he fell back to sleep shortly after until 6. Definitely better than the previous night. Im not expecting perfection because I think we're in the 4 month sleep regression, but this helps muffle his crazy leg slams onto the mattress which wakes himself up doing. Also, he looks ridiculously adorable in it. I'm curious to see how he does in it for a full night!
Grandma daycare said no more arms in for swaddle today for naps, we're officially done at home starting tonight since H and i are both off tomorrow and I'm off this weekend to deal with rough nights if need be. Fx my unicorn sleeping baby still exists after this...
He's still waking often, but I really believe that's the 4 month sleep regression rearing its ugly head. The suit keeps him from flailing and kicking his legs up and slamming them down, so it's a win in my book!!! We went from 6-7 wake ups Monday night (swaddle) to 3 last night (Merlin). vimeo.com/124585421
Your LO's success with it really prompted me to get it. I feel like they've had similar sleep (or non-sleep, depending)! Thank you! How are things by you now?
birch113 That video is exactly how Emma sleeps. It's crazy how much she moves. She's doing really well at night right now. We usually have one wake up at 4:00am then she'll sleep until around 7:15. She's 17.5 weeks now and hasn't really hit a regression yet. Knock on wood...but the 10.5 week regression was terrible for us so hoping we can get by this one.
linden25 fx you get a pass on the regression! Last night we only had two wake ups! A major win in my book aster the past couple of weeks! I'm a Merlin convert!
booo! I had such high hopes for the merlin. I bought it because I put cal to sleep in his snowsuit (this thing:http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/52109?productId=874355&attrValue_0=Natural&mr:trackingCode=8ADA1996-B0F0-E211-A497-90E2BA285E75&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=c&mr:adType=plaonline&mkwid=1kcToBif_dc&pcrid=57704138720&qs=3091372_google&product=0FDD970120&cvosrc=cse.google.0FDD970120&cvo_crid=57704138720) which is weird, I know, but he freaking loves that thing. It's so warm though, that now that it's heading into may I figured the merlin (cotton) would be just the thing.
well, I took the tags off, washed it, put him in it....and he HAAAATES it. hates! after 2 hours of intermittent fussing I put him back in the snowsuit and he conked out. This is no good because he's growing out of this snowsuit - he's pretty much out of it already, and it's way too warm for the spring summer. I was thinking the merlin would be just the ticket. now I can't even return it.
Does Cal take a pacifier? DD fussed when I put her in the Merlin at first so I started giving her a pacifier at night when I got get in the suit. It helped calm down her fussiness now she doesn't even need the pacifier anymore. Sorry the suit wasn't magic for you.
Holly loves the zippadee zip. She sleeps pretty great in it at night. The real success is she wasn't napping at all at the babysitter and getting overtired. With the zippadee she now takes (short) naps! I am going to try to make my own this weekend

That's how it went for us, too. The paci was a life saver the first few times we used it, and he usually doesn't even care about/want one. Now it's about 50/50 for needing a paci once he's in the suit.
The last two days, he's finally been napping in the suit, too (instead of the swing that he'd moved to from the rnp). We finally have flat sleep around the clock. I'm so relieved. I don't know how we're going to transition him out of this thing, but I'm happy for the progress we've made! DH calls it the super suit.
Has anyone used either as a transition with their LO'S liking to finger suck. I need to get her out of her swaddle but she loves her fingers. Not sure she can get at them in either suit.

My DS can get his hands in his mouth in the Merlin when he wants to. He prefers his binky when sleeping though.

I thought DS would do well without any kind of blanket bc he likes his hands too. He did NOT sleep as long though. I decided to try the zipadee zip again and it's working out really well this time.. especially bc he was on his stomach when I went in to feed him this morning!
We just swaddle from waist down now. It wasn't as bad of a transition as I thought it would be. We did one arm for a week then gave him both. I usually put him to bed awake after a feeding but the first week of both arms free I just nursed until asleep. We are back to awake and drowsy to bed but I'm still swaddling his waist. We have the Snuza/Oma and the first night in his sleep sack it came off (never happened before). It nearly gave us a heart attack so the swaddling at the waist will happen for awhile so that it helps keep the clip in place!

We use the snuza with just a zipadeezip and it's been staying in place (the zipadeezip sack does not secure it at all) my husband does her night diaper and snuza and says it's a matter of the diaper band being snug enough and that folding the front of the diaper can help.

I was wondering if the teeth clip had gotten too stretched out or if the diapers I am using weren't "grippy" enough. He is in between diaper sizes 2s are too small and 3s are a big big. I'm hoping when he grows a little more the clip will stay more secure!
