We flew from Oahu to Kauai (30 min flight) a few weeks ago, and DS did well. He nursed to sleep on take off and then woke up to nurse right before we landed. I'm flying from Honolulu to Atlanta solo in a few weeks and am terrified. I'll definitely have DS in the Ergo for the airport, but he doesn't like being confined for long periods of time. I bought a few extra paci clips so I can clip some toys on the seat back pocket since DS has a tendency to throw things. I'll be packing a few extra outfits for sure and maybe a change of clothes for me. I'll probably pack some pouches since if all else fails, DS is entertained by eating. And since I'll be by myself, I'm going to use a back pack as a diaper bag instead of my normal shoulder bag.
I've heard the ergo isn't comfortable for flights because it isn't comfortable to wear while sitting, so I'd check that out at home before going (I just use a basic fabric wrap with a front carry that *bonus* can double as my nursing cover). Definitely bring the toys that can clip to the seat in front of you, and pouches are great because easier clean up. DS didn't need much else because he found the whole experience entertaining enough.
You're totally right - should have specified. The ergo is awful for sitting! My DS doesn't like to be in a carrier when I'm sitting so Ill probably just use the ergo in the airport. I keep trying him in my sling and he seems uncomfortable - he strains/arches his back and tries to get out. Our first flight is overnight so hopefully hell just sleep! (Yeah right)
