I read through the "for the baby wearers" thread but it just confused me more. I want to get a carrier that I can use with my newborn who is 6lbs that i can still use when she's a toddler. From what I read that might not be realistic and I'll just need more than one. I'm looking for something I'll mostly wear around the house while chasing my toddler. K'tan breeze, ergo, or boba? Or something different all together? Help!

I'm not super into baby-wearing but I've picked up a few things. I've heard the KTan isn't comfortable after the baby gets heavier, but is nice in the beginning. The Ergo lasts longer and supports more weight, but you have to use a rolled up towel or insert until LO is over 15 lbs. Not sure about the Boba. A Beco Gemini can be used from birth (I think the instructions say 7 or 8 lbs) without an insert and goes up to maybe 35 lbs. It really just depends on what fits your lifestyle and body type.
If you have a local baby-wearing group, they'll usually have meet ups where you can get instruction and try out different devices before you buy. Or some boutique baby stores or brands online have rental programs where you can try something and then return.

If you go with the ergo, a rolled up towel or blanket works great or even better than the infant insert. I made the mistake of buying the insert and it is so hot, even in winter that it wasn't useful. Just a thought if you go that way.
I have the Beco Gemini and really like it. I used it from birth and now LO is 9 months. It can face in or out which is nice when they are older. Also can do a back carry when older. The only thing I don't like is that it's bulky to carry if taking out on a trip, it doesn't fold down very small or fit in the diaper bag the way a non structured carrier would (ie Moby, mei tei wrap or ring sling).
I was in the same position as you looking for one carrier to get me through birth to toddler and I think the Gemini will do it. I've been looking for a ring sling though for the reasons mentioned above. And you have to avoid wanting to buy all the carriers! Good luck!
The K'tan is affordable and very easy to use in the beginning. However, once my LO reached the 18lb mark it became hard on my back and uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend wearing it once your LO gets heavier.
I would recommend a woven wrap. You can use it when your baby is a newborn all the way up to toddlerhood. I can comfortably wear my toddler for 2 hours.
The ergo 360 is another option. You can get the infant insert and wear your newborn but also comfortably wear your toddler. It can adjust so that you and you SO can wear it. It can be very versatile bc it can be worn in several positions.
I think I'm the only person in the world who thought the infant insert was useful in the ergo. Of course I probably could've just used a rolled blanket, but the insert was great for us (til we lost the bolster part probably in a grocery store parking lot or something).
Anyways - I used the moby a fair bit when lo was a newborn and he liked it ok. Now he hates the moby and will only tolerate facing out in the ergo 360. Love the ergo 360, it is the only reason I can do housework and go on walks with baby. He also likes to shop in it.
@rebmit32 I have no experience, but a few months back on the parenting board I think, there was a whole thread about them. See if you can find it or maybe just ask over there!

I liked the mei tai for newborn stages and now we have a lillebaby we love. Chose it over the beco Gemini which is what I originally wanted but the lillebaby got reviewed higher. I use it all the time and absolutely love it!

The Gemini is a great birth to toddler carrier. I love it and highly recommend it. I've used it from birth to 3yrs with my first and now use it with my 2nd who is 4 months.
It actually does roll up quite nicely if you know how to do it. Here's an excellent how-to video:

I have an Ergo (organic....so soft!) and love it. My kiddo will be 4 years old in October, and I still use it with her. Another one that a lot of my friends are really liking, is the Tula and the Tula toddler carrier.
I recommend trying them first. I'm petite and I felt like the mei tai was to big on my shoulders. They all fit differently. I have a Lenny lamb and absolutely love it. It is soft and not to hot during summer.
Love my Beco Gemini! Used it from infancy. It says it goes up to 35 lbs, but found front carry to be a bit painful around 20 lbs. I still hip carry and back carry (29 months, 23 lbs) easily.

I've heard the best things about the mei tai for toddlers. Also woven wraps are supposed to be the strongest for toddlers if you have a bad back, as the stretchy ones can give way over time.
