Friendly staff and teachers were super important to me. I figured if I liked them then I would trust the program. You could ask about class size, security of the building, how they handle discipline. Do you have any word of mouth recommendations?

I do have a few. One really good one. It's what I am hoping to like. The world of preschool is overwhelming me. Montessori vs Goddard. I like structure and free learning. Is it possible to find a mix? This is hard

Schooling is very hard. Honestly preschool is like an added bonus though. It should be fun with a little learning added in. Or at least that's how I look at it anyway. Try not to be overwhelmed. Go look at all the places and go with what you feel the best about. Just go with your gut.
I'm glad I don't have to do all this again. But I do need to decide if I will send V to Kindergarten when she's just turned or 5 or 6. We are sending her to preschool this fall. She's not ready.

Highscope curriculum is awesome. Mix of small and large group activities with learning centers. Very much play oriented, but the play has a purpose.

The concept of preschool has steam rolled into graduating high school and starting college. I struggle with holding my brain back. Like I want her to have 2 years of preschool before kindergarten and her birthday is also one that allows us to hold her a year for kindergarten. So it just seems like these little decisions now will have such an impact on college ultimately. I know that it probably doesn't but I have a difficult time reeling myself in.

I like this idea. Ultimately I want both. I want her to get to be a kid but also understand that sometimes we do things that we have to.
My son is the same age as your daughter and we started him in preschool this year. It's a parent friendly one where we volunteer once a month. I know this isn't for everyone, but I like it. We asked about class size, curriculum, how they handle discipline, price, and the teacher's qualifications. He goes twice a week for 2 1/2 hours. Curriculum is learn by play. It's in a church but not affiliated with the church. He is able to run around and expend energy. The school also brings in guest speakers and they have field trips. It also is the cheapest preschool around in my area. Small class ratio too.

The one we are at now is run through a church. We went to their open house and they were ready with curriculum, pictures, FAQ, etc. It sounds cliche but I just knew when we walked in that it was the school for us.
I will agree with @scoutnumbers questions though. That's what I am asking at places now that I will need more all day care.
