STM s, what'd you do about carseats? Bucket or convertible? Convertible seems to make the most sense, because why buy two carseats when you can buy one? But then why do people still use bucket carriers?
Absolutely the carrier for when they're little. You don't want to wake them if they fall asleep in the car so just snap it into the stroller or into the shopping cart. We moved dd to a convertible at 7 months because she was so long. I say get both.

I dunno. I'm still not convinced on the infant carrier. We'll got to BBB and try one, but I'm going to guess that getting it out of the backseat of a 2 door jeep will wake the baby up just as much as taking them out. And while it will be winter, I live in coastal Texas, so it doesn't get particularly cold here. The out to eat thing makes sense, but we'll have to figure out if an infant carrier will even fit in my car.

I agree with all of the previous comments supporting the infant carrier, especially how convenient they are. Also, I wanted to add that I've had 4 different convertible seats between my 2 kids and they took up way more space than a bucket seat...especially rear-facing. If you can't fit a bucket, a convertible will be very difficult as well (if not impossible). Maybe try a few (both types of seats) in your car with a baby doll or something and see what you think. Getting a little one in and out every time you use the car can be a huge pain.

I liked the bucket seat until she was getting too heavy and then it just seemed like a workout anytime we went anywhere. It was great when shopping though because I could just put the whole seat in the cart since she couldn't sit up. Also, if she fell asleep I would just bring the whole thing in and let her finishing sleeping. She's 13 months now but it's guaranteed if I try taking her out of her seat sleeping, she will wake up and it makes me sad haha
Also, I returned my high chair. We have a huge island we eat at & do all our cooking, so I bought this hook on seat, which is much smaller & works better in our home.
Also, think about all the things you will need in the first year: teething toys, feeding supplies, standing toys, etc & don't be shy about putting them on your registry. You can always buy everything to get a registry completion discount & return whatever you end up not using down the road.
We have the video monitor and it was one of the best things we bought. I felt so much better being able to look at him at night and during naps.
I'll ditto this. I can see if her eyes were open & crying (she's probably awake) or just crying with eyes closed (probably still asleep/tired and will go back to sleep). I liked seeing her room temp on the motorola, I liked seeing a noise indicator (so I could see if she was crying without having the picture on). Even now, I can see where shes at in her crib & what she's doing. We moved her to her room pretty young & once she goes to sleep now, it's upstairs & we always have the TV on, so a monitor is necessary.

My DS is 2 1/2 and I still use mine. He likes to play in his room while I'm cleaning so I keep the monitor with me and I can see what he is doing.

It's not the fit in the backseat, but maneuvering the seat in and out. A baby is tiny and I'd just hop in the back with the baby to put them in the seat, but I don't think I could get a car seat out over the pushed forward front passenger seat while holding it any semblance of level.
For DD we did Target, BRU, BBB and Amazon. We then used a registry that listed all of our registries together. I think it was myregistry.com? It worked great and we received gifts from all four places.
For this baby, we will sign up for all four again, but mostly for the completion discounts. We will have a sprinkle and keep it small.
I have refused to consider any of this until the summer when I can sit and really research what we need. We will have at least one, if not two, showers (family for one, friends for another...i.e. traditional shower vs. fun shower for all my friends who aren't parents!) so I know we won't have to get much on our own.
I'm also kind of a no-frills kind of person. I look at a lot of those lists with skepticism.
one of the links I posted above, a btdt mom took the bru registry list and went through item by item discussing whether it was necessary or not, and whether to register for the item now or wait and just buy it later. It really made me think about what's really necessary and what is frivolous crap. And research is good. I've done tons of research over the years and it definitely helps you feel more confident in the choices you make for products that will fit your lifestyle.
Not gonna lie, I was lazy so I only read about half of the first page, so sorry if this has been covered!
But what about doing a registry that's not THAT close to home? I was thinking about doing one at BRU, but the closest ones are about an hour and a half away in either direction. So I don't know if people would buy from it as much as they would say a Target registry.

The one thing I would keep in mind with that is if you need to return anything or exchange it then you have to make the drive. With mine, a lot more people bought from Target than BRU and our closest ones are about 20 minutes away.

You don't really have to keep the seat level since they are so snug in there. I mean, I wouldn't test the theory by holding it upside down like a Blizzard or anything but the point of the car seat is that they don't go anywhere.
Also keep in mind that you won't be hopping anywhere for about a month after the baby is born, getting in the front seat of a car was bad enough, I can't imagine crawling into the back and I didn't even tear that much.
Another thing to keep in mind is that we are having winter babies and they shouldn't wear anything heavier than a fleece in the car seat so you will be having to take their coat off and put them into a cold seat each time. You can get buntings for the buckets that are safe and keep the baby warm so you don't have to worry about that.

I bought a convertible so I didn't need to buy two. I will say it is much heavier than a bucket and larger so it doesn't fit into small spaces (like the bench of the booth in a restaurant). DD was also almost too tiny for it for a month. Her head would flop all over the place so I never drove anywhere alone so someone could be in the back keeping her head still. I plan to use the same convertible this time too.
Eta: my convertible car seat clicks onto my stroller and fits into shopping carts. I was able to do all the things you are able to do with the infant bucket seat. There were just a few problems and they are mentioned above. Like I said though, I'm still not going to spend the money on an infant bucket seat.

What convertible seat goes in and out of your car? Mine is a bear to install properly!

It is a Graco. I will have to check to see what model. I use it just like you use the bucket seats. She is 13 months old and I still click it onto the stroller if we are out and about and it is time for her nap. It goes up to 35 lbs (not sure of the height limit).
I am actually in the market for the next size up convertible (one that rear faces and forward faces).
I'm actually worried about the possibility of two rear facing seats not fitting in my car. I may see if my SIL will let me use her infant seat until DD is ready to face forward so I don't have to buy a new car. Two under two comes with many complications!
Yeah, pricey isn't something we can do. We live on my H residency salary which isn't much. My SIL just had her last baby 9 months ago so I'm hoping by the time this baby is due she may be ready for a larger seat.

You can always put in an alert on Slick Deals (or similar). We got both our car seats for over 50% off with sales, both new. It's great since you have time now. It just alerts you of sales. (We don't have the Radian...we're not that fancy :-p)
Is an Amazon registry a bad idea? Like will people think that's weird or rude that they can just buy us stuff and have it sent right to my house instead of bringing it at a shower (if I get one, since I'm not throwing my own shower, obviously)?
mynameiscarrie , sorry if I missed this, did you decide to do an amazon registry? I started one awhile ago, intending to keep it private for discount purposes only. A few weeks ago I decided that I'd use it as public, but I didn't realize that people (all mine are local to me) had to have the stuff directly shipped to me. Am I being weird? I just assume some people will want to bring the gift to the shower

Ettiquette on putting breast pads, nipple cream, etc on a registry? I plan to breastfeed as long as we don't have issues and my pump should be covered between my insurance and my company. But I felt awkward about putting it on the registry?
I started to get so overwhelmed yesterday at BRU and almost started crying. I'm going to look at what we scanned online and manage it from there. I think I'm going to make an Amazon registry as well mostly for me to gather things across the web that I'd like.

I also feel weird about putting nipple cream on my registry (but that's just me, I'd never side-eye anyone who did), I am putting the pump accessories on. I read a tip somewhere to wait until after you get your completion coupon and then put it on the registry just long enough to go buy it - I plan on doing this with post-partum supplies as well, a few weeks before I'm due.
I don't think putting nipple cream, nursing pads, etc on the registry is weird at all. Think of the people that will be at the shower or buying these gifts. They're probably mostly women most of whom have had babies and know exactly how needed that stuff is. Go for it.

I made it public but we also decided to do a BRU registry as well.

Just as a heads up...some places will not send a completion code until after your due date passes (I got one from BRU when my son was a few weeks old already). I've heard changing your due date on the registry after your showers might help with this, as long as they let you edit that.

I was going to say this. My BRU coupon didn't come until after he was born.
